Very large numbers of military vehicles including Abrams Battle Tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, and Humvees, etc. are being loaded by 842nd Transportation Battalion in support of upcoming force projection exercise DEFENDER-Europe 2020.
The vessel being expertly loaded-the USNS Benavidez (T-AKR-306)-is a 290 meter long Bob Hope-class “roll on roll off” vehicle cargo ship.

My son, at 20 in 2004, was moving these type tanks for shipment to Kuwait. He finished 16 weeks of training at Ft. Knox, went to Germany for about a year then, was assigned to The Big Red One as a tank driver, was sent to Iraq via Kuwait. He's been home now, after two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, almost 9 years already. I hope the rest of our troops will be home soon. May God be with the families of those who lost family there and with those who were wounded to any degree, and to those still serving in war zones and their families.

Respect for the Tank drivers and the Banksmen who help guide them to the final ties down securing point. At first I was worried thinking all those tanks parked up was missing a big sticky out thing on top at the front. But at the last shots I got to see some complete. Abrams tanks, it amazes me that they can send them back in to factory and have them refurbished, and why not if it saves hundreds of thousands of dollars 💵.
Just the other day I was thinking my tank could use a refurb also.

I happened to be in Dammam during the first gulf war! From my window I watched hundreds of tanks on transporter trucks coming off the ships. One after another it took three days for them all to pass by me! And that was including night time!

The tanks aren't even that close to one another at least 6" between them. But for tankers this sort of thing we do a lot of in garrison. The motor pool has large concrete blocks and the tank's right track is right on the line between blocks and the front edge is also lined up, And we do that at a company in one line side by side.

Very impressive parking and a great collection. Are they fitted with an effective anti missile system? How would they get on in a major land battle? Could they defend themselves against a heavy air attack?

That's pretty much like the way we had to park our tanks in my old National Guard unit. Except for the tie downs anyway.

Always a good idea to put all your targets close together so that an enemy does not have to expend so much ordnance, which makes for more environmentally friendly war.

1-35 was our rivals in 1-1 cav, they always slacked off in the motor pool, while we slaved away. 1-1 cav always was the best at maneuvering and shooting. We beat them good in AWA in 2016 at fort bliss.

Just think, each Abrams cost @ $7 million each to build. Lot of dollars tied up in killing, yet America has a lousy health system that charges big to treat people.
Large? Its one brigade. Yes, exercise the few transport ships we have and the load out system currently in place (Ft Hood to Beaumont) but Large? By what historical standard?

@3:52. Based on the unit markings the tank belongs to 1st Battalion, 35th Armored Regiment. I'm willing to bet they sent the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team since its the parent organization.
OK. I'm impressed. I remember being directed in backing up a jeep in daylight in a field to put us about that close in a kraal. One time I blinked, missed a hand direction and the result was a busted side reflector.

It is precise. And I guess jet fuel is much less flammable than gasoline. I presume that they start with the one where the turbine exhaust is pointing at free air rather than another tank? And obviously they don’t expect any incoming weapons. It still reminds me of all the planes parked together at Pearl Harbor. Do they ship them with ordnance inside?

What your looking at is a Battalion of Armor. They have the Bradley’s, M1 Abraham’s , Howitzers and some Fists. All Battle ready. It’s 2nd or 1st Armor.

Most of the vehicles on the dock were Bradley’s not Abrams tanks. Two years ago over 500 Abrams were parked at Anniston Army Depot on the grass near the gate closest to Talledega.
Makes me nervous so many assets in one place!

A friend that was in the navy in the 70s told me, they had tanks in the hold of the ship, they got into a storm and some of the tanks broke loose and started slamming into each other. They got orders to get in there and get the tanks tied back down while the storm was still raging, he said they refused to do it. I don't remember if they got in trouble for disobeying orders.

i thought the same thing. the driver is trying to follow him but his signals are unclear. and not what we use. if he used proper signals it would have looked much better. we can park with amazing precision with a good guide.
