      @hoabui5532@hoabui5532 Жыл бұрын
    • @@hoabui5532 They are. It's not unusual to have multiple military installations in a single county, or city. Another example in this video is both NS Mayport and NAS Jax are located in Duval County, Florida and are about 28 driving miles apart from one main gate to the other (depending on the route taken, it could be longer).

  • When we entered the Naval Base in Norfolk in 1977, we were deeply impressed by the size of the ships. We stayed in the USA and the Caribbean for four months and completed a five-week training course in Guantanamo with the Fleet Training Group. We achieved the grade Outstanding at that time. I served in the German Navy from 1975-1979 and was deployed on the destroyer ROMMEL. Our ship belonged to the John F. Adams Class and it was built for the German Navy in the Bath Iron Works - Bath / Maine. We had three ships of this type that formed the 1st destroyer squadron in Kiel. I like to remember that time.

    • Sad enough that already at this time in the 70's americans had to build german destroyers. But it is even more ridiculous today to see housewives as our minister of defense running the German Bundeswehr. Don't we we have an pride no more that we let these people making a kindergarten out of our soldiers and the German army and these and other politicians who have absolutely no clue, what they are doing, running our once so beloved country into the ground? Shame on them.

I'd often have lunch at the McDonald's across from the carrier piers. I was an awesome sight to see with most of the fleet in port. When I returned in late August it was quite different and looked like a ghost town as Kuwait had been invaded and a lot of the Navy had deployed to the Middle East.

    • @@unknownuser2737 radar is far better than it was back in those days. And naval station norfolk where most carriers are in the world is located roughly a few miles inland from open ocean. With consistent patrols outside in the ocean by both coast guard and navy surface and subsurface combatants plus Langley airforce base, naval air station Oceania literally within 20-30 miles of norfolk naval station, plus geographically speaking you have the entirety of the Atlantic ocean AND multiple allied countries that are usually in the way, it's almost impossible to make those moves. Sure it could still happen, but there hasn't been a time in history where as a military power, a country has this much technological and number superiority over their opponents. The United States all closest Rivals in power are on the other side of the world closer to their pacific theater which in all honesty houses less carriers but probably a greater variety of overall naval assets to counter any offensive. That's why even during both world wars, there was never an attack on the Atlantic side mainland. By then naval superiority plus just how geographically long it is for an enemy nation to attack, it would not be a wise strategy when no powerful rival nation is in the western hemisphere. Maybe Alaska, but there's barely any assets out there other than fighter craft that outpace the Russians
