  • Can't see the primary coil. The taps are taken off the two main winding coils, so it is technically an autotransformer/charger. Important to have the polarity correct at the mains plug. Hope the diode connections were soldered and the twisted joint between the coils are crimped or clamped with a split bolt.

    • ermmm, I didn't see any solder yet alone an iron, and I would have used crimp connectors where I could. It goes to show how the regulations are in their country.

  • I'm sure it works, but . . . . Core losses via eddy currents will be very high, since those steel (not soft iron I note) laminations are not insulated - even dipping the laminae in varnish would do the trick. Coils appear to be varnished (and that's Aluminium cable), terminations are "twist and hope" since soldering to Al doesn't happen, and it appears crimp connections are somewhere in the future. Analogue (moving coil) meters - which are more costly than digital these days, and the things sold in that "shop" - Thanks, but no thanks!! Possibly the icing on the cake was those ceramic fuse carriers - it seems you CAN still buy them from China, along with the high-value 25.4mm HRC fuses.

    • Varnishing the laminations wouldn't solve the problem of magnetization/hysteresis losses. And aluminum can be soldered, but it takes special and very nasty fluxes.

    • Кабель сделан из переплавленных алюминиевых банок, а его изоляция из переплавленных пластиковых бутылок. На ютубе есть видео где делают и кабель и его изоляцию.
