I think they can’t fail with Vader. He’s arguably the best parts of Rogue one and Kenobi. He’s the one thing they seem to get right every time.
Uhhh the fire scene and the fact reva didn’t survived vader in kenobi says otherwise
They just need to do a Vader solo movie make it a trilogy that follows him post revenge of the sith
He was awful in Kenobi imo. After 10 years as Vader he learned nothing. This series even compared him with the Episode 2 Anakin which is just dumb.
Vader was a highlight in rogue one but rogue one by itself is a good film in a string of bad ones. Deserves recognition for that.
@@takeoffvision2211 ofcourse he's learned nothing, he's been blinded by hate and rage the whole time, and is a lot weaker than when he was a jedi in episode 2.
If you weren’t aware, Matthew Wood is also the voice of all the battle droids and general Greivous on top of working on sound for lucasfilm, he’s a legend himself
Even in as the droids ib live-action. That´s impressive!
Duh!
@@DontrelleRoosevelt well they don’t mention it during his intro in the video, so how is the average/new fan gonna know
Wasn't aware. Thanks for the heads up.
Holy shnikees
I noticed Hayden’s vocal inflections were different than his usual Anakin performance. “Youuuu didn’t…kill…. Ana…kin Skyyy…walk..er” I then realized his vocal inflections and cadence was identical to that of Sebastian Shaw in Return of the Jedi. “Youuuu… Al…ready…. Have… my son” Then Anakin deepens his voice as he says “The same way… I will DESTROY YOU.” Which sounds like matching Matt Lanter’s voice. Whether it was intentional or not, it really makes sense when you listen to them all side by side, and merges all the performances together.
I never realized that! I've noticed when watching this series for the first time that his voice was a lot deeper compared to before and it sounded closer to Matt's depiction of the character in TCW.
You're overthinking and reaching. Disney isn't that smart
Hayden has stated in interviews years old that he always intended for Anakin’s speech cadence to be the same as James Earl Jones’ Vader.
That's a huge reach. It was a mix of Anakin/Vader/ and a guy that can hardly make a sound without his vocal amplifier which is what he REALLY sounds like without it. It's not hard to imitate a wheezy voice with a short breath.
@@Wade_Fucking_WilsonDisney doesnt write Star Wars and never has. Disney just find Lucasfilm who do all the creative things. Education is important
All I needed in life was haydens voice coming out of that mask in some form and I couldn't be any happier. The parallels to Matt's voice through the mask is perfection 👌
I liked Christensen from day one, just figured he was doing the best he could at the time with what he was dealt for dialogue and direction. If nothing else, this show at least accomplished the rehabilitation of HC as Anakin/Vader, demonstrating how much closer to potential he could be under the right circumstances. Such a pleasure to see him here and in Ahsoka. And yes, the vocal blend... pure chills. To say nothing of AI bringing JEJ right back to his mid-40s voice.
The killjoy fans hated both Jake and Hayden because it didn't match what they thought Anakin should be like as a young person. It was George's story to tell. Take it or leave it, but don't blame the actors.
Surprised they never mentioned the fact that this scene was inspired by Rebels! I loved that they managed to bring animated elements to the live action.
I think they blended the voices much better in Rebels.
Inspired? Its a 1 to 1 ripoff if u ask me😂😂
Obi-Wan cracked one half, Ahsoka cracked another, but only Luke removed the mask. It's like poetry, it rhymes
No way they're going to admit they just copy/pasted that moment from another show.
Rebels still did it better too
This scene was amazing. The sound was wonderful. That voice trick was chilling.
I wish they had gone into how they recreated James Earl Jones' voice, because he did not record any original lines if I'm correct
yeah they didn’t really explain anything at all. i expected a breakdown of the technology, this is just a reiteration of the scene’s concepts
Wouldn’t be surprised if it was AI. That might of been why they didn’t talk about it.
Jones, like Majel Barrett Roddenberry did for her role as the voice of Starfleet ship computers, recoded a library of words, syllables, and vocal quirks a few years ago to allow for his speech patterns to be built from scratch using AI.
@@Bofa_Deez we already know it was Respeecher, I just wanted the details
Same, I expected a bit more info on how they used Respeecher. Because I remember watching & thinking JEJ's lines sounded way too good to be AI, specifically when it comes to tone and delivery. My theory is that they might've used an early variant of those AI voice changers that are starting to gain popularity now. So JEJ could've recorded & delivered an actual performance, with the AI working to make him sound younger. As you say though, I've also heard that he might not have recorded anything new. Would very much like to know more.
This nailed it whereas I don't think the prequels seemed to get it. I saw an interview here on KZhead awhile back that had George Lucas saying that that's why Anakin's dialogue was so funny in Episodes 2 and particularly 3, was that he was bridging the gap between this lost kid and Darth Vader. It was a transition and nothing that changed suddenly. It makes more sense hearing the back and forth with Hayden's voice blended with Jones's. It hammers Lucas' point home.
Reminds me of the rebels scene with ahsoka
She cracked the other side. Check it 😊
They effortlessly intermingled the two personas through the hauntingly beautiful sound mixing, but also the alternating lightsaber glow on his face. From crimson red to pale blue back to red; both these purely technical aspects worked in perfect tandem together to help illustrate the unceasing inner conflict within Anakin/Vader’s soul. Everything about this scene (and series, really) just operated BRILLIANTLY on a pure ephemeral, psychological level. So happy it’s getting the many award nominations it (rightfully) deserves. If shallow fanboys were never going to get it, than the artistically inclined at least would.
Was a very mixed series for me. Had some amazing highs but super lows for me as well
agree 100%
I thought it was meh at worst and incredible at best. Idk
There's gonna be a good re-edit by a big VFX guy coming out this year or next
@@N.E.U.R.O Yes, made with some who worked on andor at least with new scenes they made for it. Kenobi Trial of the masters
some of the worst Star Wars put to screen.
they actually added the "NoOOOoOoooOOo" scene in this. The editor gets it.
The vocal blend was everything. Thank you.
I wouldn't mind hearing a bit more of Hayden's voice in the Darth Vader suit. He is younger and still has Anakin closer to him than what we see later on
the best scene of the show , and one of the best of SW ever
Extremely great scene. Everyone was mind-blown when they heard that JEJ-Hayden voice mix🫡
‘How Obi-Wan Kenobi blended Hayden Christensen and James Earl Jones’ “Scott the sound guy mixed them”
Bonnie Wild the Sound Gal mixed them *ftfy
Darth Vader and the flashbacks were the best parts of the show.
Not saying much but yeah. It was great seeing Hayden back tho
The good parts of the show.
I really enjoyed this series.
😂 nice one bro
@@RM-rh3mzAwww look at the butthurt "fan". I truly pity you for not being able to enjoy something as simple and enjoyable as Star Wars. It truly must suck to be you. Chin up though, maybe you'll grow and start enjoying things in life again instead of being a sourpuss. Personally I loved the series. It was great. I also loved Mandalorian and now something that'll prolly really tick you off. I thought the sequels were abso fucking lutely fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed them!
So did I!
Definitely flawed but I enjoyed it overall
That’s because you have taste and think for yourself. Congrats. 👍
It was such a good scene. I wish the dialogue was just a little bit longer, but it was still great!
Hayden was pure excellence! in this scene ...with Ewing you just can see n feel all the pain and hurt and blame he layed upon himself for having totally lost his brother Amazing work! This entire scene really makes that entire show def the climax we needed from that show. Now that we got this i dont see how they can recreate it for the Ashoka show but that show also have to have a moment like this or at LEAST an Annkina Ashoka moment if not a Ashoka Vader moment
Vader really should’ve dropped a “Now who has the high ground?” or something. Haha
I want to meet Matthew Wood so bad! He’s done absolutely amazing work, and I gotta say he’s probably my favorite person to work on Star Wars!!
This scene legitimately changed my life, and it’s still unclear if it was for the better.
Doubt it

@@Antonio-Gransci the idea of you finding silly that this scene changed the dudes life is silly
This show was phenomenal. Epic. The confrontation between these two was epic and had the emotional release both characters and the audience needed to see and hear. Gosh! I LOVE STAR WARS!
I was legit so happy they did cause it mirrored what they did for Matt lanter/James Earl Jones in Rebels
The part where we hear Hayden say "you didnt kill Anakin Skywalker.." should have been followed up by James E.J. saying "i did"
This video is really great a year late but still awesome this sound design was my favorite part of the whole show and its scenes
Should have had James say ‘I did’ after Hayden said ‘you didn’t kill anakin’ instead of Hayden saying the whole line. It was stunning anyway but that would’ve just been *chef’s kiss*
That would have been the obvious choice, so having it be Hayden's voice was probably very deliberate. Anakin was Darth Vader before he had the mask and its voice.
Flawless scene!.. best part of Star Wars i've seen in a long time... a long long time... 🃏
One of the best scenes in Star Wars ever for me
“At last Obi-Wan we meet again. When I left you I was but the learner now I am the Master.” Does that sound like I force dragged you through fire and then was instantly stopped and stumped by the same fire? Or that other epic battle just 8 years ago were you destroyed my mask and left me a 2nd time?
I loved that show a lot and that scene where we can hear the two voices of Vader overlapping each other was one of if not the best scene of the show
I came here wanting to know more about how they did James Earl Jones's voice. Did they have him do it himself? Was it auto-tuned? Or, did they just use AI?
They say it’s JEJ. But I think the credits mentioned an AI emulator, so I am not sure what the truth is. JEJ is still living. I would HOPE they asked his permission to use his voice likeness for this series specifically, if they didn’t have him in studio. Another reason that this WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike season is important to define these parameters. When is it ever allowed to use AI for a deceased actor, when is it allowed to use digital and AI for an actor who is too busy or too expensive to be on set? Obviously Tarkin and Leia’s likeness and voices have been created (for RO and ROS), but did they cross a line, EVEN WITH family permission? The artwork of creating those digital performances was very well done, but we have also seen the technique done for the WRONG reasons (I.e. Christopher Reeve’s likeness in The Flash). The line must be drawn. Or studios will run with exclusively employing digital artists instead of hiring working screen actors.
@@cassieo I'd also read he was on board for whatever they did for this show, so I'm sure they got his consent to use AI. The result was fantastic. But, to your point about the strike, I can understand why Disney would be quiet about using AI in their recent works.
Just to clarify, John Williams didn’t do the music for the whole series, only the main Obi-Wan theme.
Nailed the voice crackle and writing for the final apology
Would be awesome to see some deleted footage for that scene, and know what other lines they had in mind.
I wonder why they didn't give a glowing Sith eye when his face was revealed under the mask, as he had glowing eyes in revenge of the sith when he was killing kids in the temple, and he would have been in full Sith mode with hate fighting Kenobi in the new series so it didn't make sense to me why his eyes are normal. 🧐🤔
Behind the scenes images should the Sith contacts he wore, the lighting made it hard to tell.
That whole confrontation between Obi wan and Darth was masterful. It picked up right where Revenge of the Sith left off
I love seeing anakin and obi wan interact again 😭😭 make season 2!!!!
Interesting!
I still think they should have made James Earl Jones voice say “I did”
Much respect for Hayden, I thought he was amazing as Anakin back in the day, felt bad he and the rest of the cast got so much hate from other "fans", somewhat abusively, prequels were great
Such a powerful and incredible!!!!!! scene LOVE THIS SHOW!!!! Hayden's portrays was amazing in this scene and still gives me tears!!!! love this!!!
Dang. I remember young Matthew Wood working on the prequels in the 90s with Ben Burtt.
Hands down best park in the snow...watched it a few times lol
Im not a die hard fan but im really glad they got the deep voiced OG earl voice actor and they blended hayden christensen
GOAT scene of Star Wars
It would be cool to have a Vader rising series.
Prequel Trilogy.

I’m curious who did the voice of Vader that they used the ai James Earl Jones on. Was it Hayden or was it James and they just used the ai to make his voice younger or was it someone else?
I was hoping they would talk about that.
It was James, yeah. He said it would be his last performance for Vader before he retired the part. And he was there with partially his voice and overseeing the AI of his voice to get it right, that way they could use it forever after he dies. Honestly, an amazing way to go out, and what a nice thing he did for us. Vader will ALWAYS be him. He even prerecorded lines for the future just for them to use in anything else. What a legend.
If the intent was to make it so Obi Wan thought he was leaving Vader to die, that was not communicated well at all. This show was all over the place man. That being said Hayden was amazing and it was great to have him back.
"We wanted to copy the scene from Rebels with Ahsoka. So we did."
The best moment of Kenobi was when he said "Darth".
3:11 is all I ever wanted to see of Vader since ep5
This is the only thing on the show that was needed everything else could've been skipped
Anything can be skipped, but I'm glad the rest wasn't. Much more interesting than 80% of other Star Wars stuff to me
Hearing Matt talk I can hear the battle droids 😅
If the Obiwan Kenobi show given a higher budget as the other shows, it would have been way better. Its a shame it was Disney overlooked as inferior than their other projects.
What I enjoyed about this was obi breaks the left side anikin comes back before vader regains control ashoka does the same thing breaking the right side and same thing again anikin comes back before vader luke breaks the mask completely and brings anikin fully back
This is one of the greatest scenes in Star Wars😢❤so many emotions
Matthew wood is the voice of grievous
Excellent video on star wars obi wan kenobi series hope there a series 2 of obi wan kenobi 🎬🎬🎬👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧
Why
@@lew0 obi wan kenobi series was amazing loved it all the series was amazing plenty of actions
Funny how they bring up how the sound is important, yet at the final duel in the series Obi Wan's saber sometimes sounds like Kylo's and just sounds different. There's like three swing sounds you hear that you've never heard before in the Obi Vs Vader duel and it always bothers me when I hear it. Just use the classic and already awesome lightsaber sounds (thank you Ben Burtt)
John Williams is the 🐐
Least us forget they said this would be the match up of the century. Modern Lucas Film is a parody of it's former self.
*its, not it's
If Hayden got the same screen time as riva this show would of been so much better
They really did George dirty with that intro picture
I also heard Matt Lanter!
May The Force be with us All 😎👊✊🍁
Too bad the camera wasn't kept still without excessive cuts, so this final fight could've actually been seen.
So they didn't say how they created it. They just said they mixed it.
We probably going to see this scene again from ashoka..
I think Kenobi should've been a movie rather than a show. For such an important part of Star Wars, a movie budget would've blown us all away. You could clearly "see" the show's budget quality in some of the scenes. Leia's story could still be included, but it wouldn't drag on as much as it did in the show.
I do not think it failed because it was a series, its because the story was terrible. They focused on rescuing Leia in half of the show when it should have been Obi Wan struggling because of Vader. And so many characters added nothing to the story.
The show worked. It just needed to be stretched to 3 season. Obi wan broken keeping his first face off against Vader, ObiWan finding himself finally talking to Gin, and last season ObiWan mastering the force and defeating Vader
They found two people that didnt fuck up at the show. Congrats :D
Anyone else notice how Hayden's mouth is not moving 95 percent of the time? I'd seen this scene a hundred times till I caught it, and it looks a little silly. I wonder if this was intentional and the show thought it would look weird for the audience to see his mouth move since we're so used to seeing the mask.. so they tried to make the camera angle disguise it as much as possible and hoped no one would really notice. Or was this a mistake that even the editors didn't catch?
Love Kenobi Awesome for me Thanks 👍
I don't care what people say but if Hayden never portrayed a role as Anakin/Vader, i don't think i ever be a star wars fan. He knows his character better than anyone else.
👏👏
I loved this show. It had multiple beautiful moments and ended on a very strong note. Screw the haters and the sheep-mentality talking heads!
I can’t agree more! This show was everything I wanted and more.
I'd like a Vader , Palpatine mini series next how Vader gets trained my Sidious and Vader hunting down jedi etc
That one scene made the entire series worth it…
Beaten and destroyed, on the brink of defeat Darth Vader is an old concept, and it dates back to the first The Force Unleashed, after the conclusive duel between Vader and the secret apprentice Starkiller. All they did with this series was to revisit in a way softer and more docile format that very concept of 'broken' and full of rage Vader. The tale is always the same, they keep going back to Legends, to the Lucas Era, to the star wars of the old days, because they simply lack the creativity and the ingenuity to create something so special, genuine and powerful like Lucas' Star Wars, the Real One.
Oh my gaaaaaad!
I wish the broken mask scene was all of Hayden’s voice rather than the voice merging with James Earl Jones
The show may have been a colossal disappointment to me, but I was so happy to see Hayden and Ewan together on screen again
Agreed
Really disappointed on this series in terms of writing but I could tell the cast and crew had their hearts in the right place.
I didn’t hate it. I liked the leia plot. But id have been much more understanding of Kenobi’s arc here if they hadnt done the same to Luke. The Vader parts were the best of the show, but it changes the Alec Guiness fight with Vader’s “i was but the learner” …comment. While i enjoy the scene as the best part of the show im still torn, and i think it probably should have been done without it. I dunno just my opinion in this moment
Missed opportunity to use Battle of the Heroes for the final duel
The absolute best part of Kenobi. Was so powerful. Its just a shame the rest of the series was very average...
This show is in overall disapointing but at least fills the gap between episodes 3 and 4, specially on the transition of anakin into vader, making believable that both chars are actually the same person
What "gap" are you even talking about??? There NEVER needed to be a show about Vader meeting Obi-Wan again, you already had that reason with how ROTS and ANH were being set up! While Anakin's transition into Vader is covered by the Prequels, its effect on Obi-Wan and Yoda made clear in what they had to do. This show was all about demeaning certain characters so that Disney could insert their own narrative, and if you didn't get that then you are part of the problem that really DOESN'T understand Star Wars at all.
pity the whole fight was too dark to see, all I could see was the lightsabers
I hear that that’s all good very creative and decent effect. But would be even better and this wasn’t like so many decent show ideas that get started and never finished. And end up ruined because one didn’t follow through to completion.

are those really necessary
Why do you care?
@@auntvesuvi3872 because i am a citizen of the United States of America and i am entitled to free speech
So they basically just did what rebels did 💀
Wait a sec. I assumed that Obi-Wan had simply made the “selfish” choice of walking away in order to save his own soul, rather than continuing the fight and trapping himself in Vader’s spiral of misery, because Vader was weakened, but not yet beaten, so staying would have been a risk… …but now they’re saying that Vader was indeed completely defenseless, so their excuse for why Obi-Wan threw away his second chance at killing him is that he thought he was leaving him for dead? AGAIN?
As disappointing as the show was, this scene and performance was perfection.
It’s definitely the best of the Star Wars shows, however.
Disappointing??? We obviously watched two different shows
I can see how folks with certain expectations may not have liked it as much, but I personally enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
😂 Speak for yourself that show was a Masterpiece they did it for all of Us. I think they have the best fighting scenes in any tv shows. That was incredibly emotional and entertaining.
@@DontrelleRoosevelt exactly what is he talkin about
Kenobi could've been perfection... I'm still disappointed by how much they fumbled the series.
Look for the fan-made Patterson cut. 3 hours long, but worth it
I really feel like the first three episodes were a little bit dry and lacking, but the last two were near perfection I believe.
@@bourneytCODMroadto600subs no they weren't
@@parkranga That's your opinion. I'm not saying that it couldn't have been better, and I am not saying that they weren't somewhat foolish in some scenes, but the last two episodes were full of accurate and well-shot scenes with some rather good substance if I do say so myself.
Whether u liked the series or not this was truly a special scene in the entire franchise
Because of the glaring contradictions this had with the OG movies, I’ll never consider this show canon. But the back and forth between anakin and Vaders voice was too good!
Lotta haters in the comments. The show was really well done. Not the best Star Wars TV, but it had so many amazing moments. We will absolutely see Ewan play Obi-Wan again.
