In their Actors on Actors conversation, Diego Luna ('Andor') and Hayden Christensen ('Obi-Wan Kenobi') discuss everything that 'Star Wars' has brought to their lives. Luna describes the secretive process of being cast in 'Rogue One,' and tapping into personal experiences to portray a "more grounded" storyline in 'Andor' season 2. Hayden opens up about playing Darth Vader again, reuniting with Ewan McGregor, and how the experience of playing Anakin Skywalker "feels like home."

    • The prequels had great ideas, just clunky dialogue. I am not trying to throw George Lucas under the bus, I just wish he would have had someone tighten the scripts up. I believed Anakin was on his way to becoming Darth Vader in his 3 minutes of screen time in Obi wan than I did the entire Attack of the clones & revenge of the sith films

    • As an OS fan that's why I don't even consider the prequel movies canon. TCW Anakin and how he is portrayed as an über Chad who slowly descended to the Dark over many seasons was just head and shoulders above the three prequel toy commercial stories of a winy emo kid who hates sand gone bad. Episode 5 of Ahsoka just proves it, Hayden harnessed that Alpha Chad (Vader) TCW Anakin personality instead of the sad helpless prequel Anakin (he even walked and talked with the same cadence and confidence in that episode as Anakin in TCW!). It helps that Filoni was the one calling the shots in that episode. Proof they need to retcon Episodes I-III with Favreau / Filoni / Gilroy at the helm.

  • Hayden has finally been given a worthy script, and proper direction as Anakin Skywalker in ep.5 of Ahsoka. His maturity as an actor combined with such a better opportunity has given us a refined performance, and such a complete version of this character. I hope this opens the door for more roles for Hayden going forward. Lucas had so little interest in meaningful dialog or performance in the Prequel trilogy - it was more an experiment in new special effects; which left most of the performances two dimensional. Now we see that Hayden has the chops!

He also said something about playing with toys at the age of 15. 15-year-old boys in general are concerned with something else, besides toys. At this age, Diego Luna was also helping organize events, concerts, and marches for the Zapatista National Liberation Army. To think he went from playing with toys to working with the most radical anti-Imperialist leftists in America in the same year is something only a Star Wars fan can understand. Great interview. Thanks, Hayden, and thank you, Diego.

    • Well to be fair, Hayden's career went nowhere after StarWars, so it's not like he can mesmerize Diego with stories of his other glory roles. It's a bit awkward given how badly written the prequels were and how widely revered Andor is in terms of writing. He can't risk sounding pretentious about objectively bad writing. Diego so far is slightly on the up compared to Hayden and doesn't have negative backlash history attached to him. So there's no choice but to give Diego the mic, because he's the more interesting person.

      @starkiller007@starkiller00711 ай бұрын
    • @@starkiller007 The prequel stories weren't badly written at all, what was badly done was George's directing of the dialogue. In Episode 3 DVD behind the scenes, Lucas even says Hayden kept giving Anakin this edge in his delivery and energy in both Episode 2 and 3, and Lucas said every time he had to stop him, have a talk with him, and have him dry all that out and shift it because Anakin doesn't "become bad or edgy til later". Which to me is a very one dimensional approach on the character's delivery. Much like if it was up to Lucas, Han Solo would've said to Leia "I love you too", instead of "I know", which wasn't in the script. Luckily for Episode 5, George wasn't the director, and apparently he hated that line when he saw Han deliver it in a screening, it wasn't until he saw how favorable it was with a test audience did he change his mind. George should've been in charge of the story and direction of the character arcs, but directing was never his strong suit. Which is why the dialogues in the prequels are so clunky.

    • @@matthewj3892 In general the stories aren´t that bad but they have a few abysmal plot holes. George Lucas seem to be the only author that doesn't know his own work, because in each new movie he introduced elements that contradicted the previous one. The plot keeps changing in his mind but he forgets that he has already committed to one version that is out in the public. He is a perennial revisionist, who still haven't decided who shot first. The movies are plagued with these inconsistencies. The introduction of the midichlorians almost single-handedly destroyed the mysticism of the OT. There was no need to reintroduce R2 and C3PO, in the prequels, although Lucas wanted them to be the narrators of the saga but their inclusion felt forced. To make Anakin a boy in the first movie was a misstep. The age difference between Amidala and Anakin was creepy.And so on.

      @badideabearcub2747@badideabearcub274711 ай бұрын
    • You’re spot on with Lucas being a revisionist and I think that’s really to his and the films detriment sometimes (though other times it’s not. I think the ESB special edition is a vast improvement on the original in pretty much every way but the other 2 are 50/50) however there isn’t any plot holes in the Prequels I don’t think you can say that. Retcons sure but there’s nothing plot breaking. And midichlorians didn’t ruin the OT. Everyone misunderstands them but the concept of the force being tied to genetics was always there. Luke says “the force is strong in my family” and that’s evidently the case. Midichlorians also aren’t the force. They’re a life form that live off it and are extremely prevalent in its presence which perfectly fits with Obi-wan saying how it penetrates and binds all living things together. And the final misconception is that it doesn’t measure strength in the force but potential and it’s still training, mind, effort and determination that makes you strong in it. Anakin had a higher count than Yoda but was never more powerful or knowledgeable than him. So yeah just wanted to say that specifically because I’ve never had a problem with midchlorians personally and don’t get why people do. It doesn’t even effect anything either tbh. And on top of that it just makes perfect sense and fits in with everything we know about the force imo. But I’m 100% in agreement with you on the shooting first lol. Definitely should have just stayed Han. And at least the theatrical version of ANH should always be available considering the milestone in cinema it was. The 3PO and R2 is a bit of a coincidence and makes the galaxy feel small but tbh I do kinda like the concept of the wondering narrating droids that witness everything. It’s very odyssey like and it doesn’t break anything per say, it’s just extremely unlikely, but will of the force yk lmao

    • An Emmy nom for Obi Wan? Yeah idk about that. Don't get me wrong Hayden is a good actor and was unfairly put through hell, but Emmy nom for a drama show? The casts of Succession/BCS/Andor absolutely put out far, far better acting performances it's not even close really. Same with Ewan, an incredible actor, but his performance in Obi-Wan is not exactly Emmy worthy imo. Ewan deserved the Emmy for Fargo for sure though he killed it there. This isn't me saying Hayden isn't an Emmy worthy actor, he very much could be and I hope he gets to prove himself in more roles, but just not this time imo

Andor was made for adults whereas the Mandalorian is a lot goofier. I dont see a problem with that its just different styles. Lots of people didnt like Andor for being slow and not having enough action. I loved it for taking its time to do some worldbuilding and develop its characters. In my opinion its the best live-action Star Wars content by a very wide margin. I just wish the Obi-Wan show would've had a more competent writing team, it was pretty childish at times but I loved every minute when Ewan or Hayden was on screen. I am really grateful for them coming back and stepping into those characters again and them sparring on Coruscant was a joy to watch. Anthony Hopkins was 60 years old when the first Zorro movie came out but you can tell the story was written in a way where Anthony’s character would pass on the torch to someone else younger so it wasn’t weird or out of place to see someone much older play that character.
