The only thing better than Keanu's driving skills is the VFX work that went into creating the rest of the scene! Take a look at our new VFX breakdown for the Arc De Triomphe scene of John Wick 4 that had us on the edge of our seats in the theatre.

    • I knew I saw a lot of CG in this movie, but this scene being THIS MUCH is dumbfounding. I like how they strategically decided to use real cars at times when it was needed. It's interesting too because once you have a ton of CG like this your eye has less real objects to compare it to, and it's harder to tell.

    • rotoscoping can actually be pretty easy if you have the right tools for it, but excruciating if needed to do every single frame hand by hand.

  • I only recently watched John Wick 4 at home, and this scene in particular had me grinning like a child on christmas day, it is so audacious and original. It now blows my mind that it was mostly cgi, i figured some of the cars had to be cgi, but nearly all of it? Holy crap...Plus, Keanu managed to one up Tom Cruises bike scene around the the Arc.

    • This is how the vast majority of CG is used, but it's invisible when done well so it stands out when it's done poorly.

  • Of course it's not possible to film this kind of scene in such a place for real, it's the only thing that "could" trigger me, otherwise I would not think about it to be real or not, it's just too good.

  • Incredible work RodeoFX! Question, do you use Lidar cameras on set to help with the street tracking for cobblestone surface replacement lets say? Also I wonder if this was just in the demo reel but the dude getting hit by the car in the background at 1:46 goes through the car lol! not final rotoscope maybe? :P

  • Very awesome!! However, I am confused, didn't Keanu did all of his own driving stunts? His own car wasn't animated into the film was it? I remember even seeing behind the scenes of him driving while shooting the pistol.

  • It's no doubt incredibly impressive, but this was one of my least favorite scenes in any of the John Wick movies. I wish all that work was better utilized for something else.
