  • I've been polygraphed four or five times in regard to a felony theft at my (then) place of employment. This was in Illinois; by law you can get a copy of your results once the report is written. The first two (by a private firm) resulted in a pair of detectives leaning hard on me, accusing me of lying and then lying themselves. I gave them no traction and no confession. The next two or three were administered by the sheriff's department in house specialist. They pulled out all the stops: wash hands, shoes off, no watch allowed, and conducted in a locked interrogation room. Those sessions lasted hours, with the deputies often leaving for long period of time. The heat was jacked up, then the A/C blasted. Again I was accused of lying and told I failed the tests. Again they got nothing; I hadn't done it, and I had no solid idea who had. I received the reports about two weeks after the cops did. I had registered ZERO lies, but a lot of "inconclusives," even about some random things. Polygraphs are first and foremost an interrogation tool used to bully you into giving up information or confessing. Don't ever confess to something you didn't do.

  • As someone who had to take a test a long time ago (not at a police station or anything like that) they are most definitely beatable. They have to tell you the questions before you take them so you don't create brain activity anticipating the question and throw off the test. Study the questions and lie to yourself until you convince yourself you're telling the truth. If you can't do that, listen to the questions carefully. Example "Did you write a naughty word on the wall is completely different than did you write naughty words on the wall" One is singular, and one is plural. Remind yourself to stay calm. Control your breathing with deep calm breaths.

    • It's so easy to beat the test. All his "techniques" are ridiculous. To beat the test, if they ask if you robbed a store on Sunday night, and you actually did, you need to stay calm the whole time, when you get asked the question, simply imagine yourself on Sunday night being home watching a movie or doing some activity you enjoy that relaxes you. Turn every question into something you imagine you really did, and believe it. You have to believe it. That's how you beat this test. These "tricks" are pointless. What was the point of this? He says he will give tips but none work. And who's gonna let you take a test drunk? As if they wouldn't notice.

Yeah, no, easy on paper, hard in reality for the majority of people to do that in the environment you're being tested at, with those in authority in front of you, with what you're being accused of, the fear of failing, etc. People's anxiety goes high. If you're someone who's cool and collect, have experience with these kinda things, and can gaslight yourself, I'm sure it's easy.

      @RemedieX@RemedieX4 ай бұрын
    • @@RemedieX idk why you call it gaslighting myself. I can do it well but thsys because I'm 30 and have spent my time always somehow thinking or imagining things or simulating reality or alternate realities in PERFECT DETAIL in my mind 24/7. I have a well trained mind, nothing gets past me. Most people aren't. They're insecure conformist copycat followers who just are desperate to fit in and have a few friends. So youre right most people can't do this ever. But if a lawyer with 3.7 million views on this channel can't have a good way to cheat tbe system, then he isn't that intelligent

  • I had to take a polygraph test for employment with Radio Shack in the early 80's. The guy giving the test looked like somebody from the Crypt - really freaky with a huge frown. I failed although I told the truth. He agreed to give me the test again and rephrased the questions. I passed. His personally completely changed and he put on a big grin. He enjoyed telling me about how the polygraph test work. I got the job. But if I ever had to take another test then I know for sure that I would not trust the results.

I have been up front, and about the breathing thing, I always stop breathing to make any word comes out. But I have witnesses to prove my honest, but never had a chance.

  • I once took a polygraph test for a job, and I have no idea how I passed it. I was asked if I consume drugs. I said no, but in my mind I was like of course, multiple times every day. coffee is technically a drug, so I technically use drugs each time I consume coffee. I was asked if I stole from my previous employer. I said no, but as it happens, I once left work like a minute or two early. in my mind, there is no doubt that is stealing ( getting paid for 8h and working 7h58' ) I was asked if I like to gamble. I said no, and yeah, I never bet money, but I absolutely love to bet on stuff (with 0 stakes) to the point that I'm a bit obsessed with probabilities and odds, even if it's just for fun, I definitely love doing it. So yeah, in the end I think I got those needles moving all over the place at all times, and I think that's how they couldn't tell when I was lying and when not, so they gave me pass. also, for the calibration questions, like what's your name, how old are you, I Imagined in my mind that I was lying to those as well, (even if I didn't) and even imagined how I'd get in a heap of trouble because I lied. this way, they couldn't get an accurate "base line" of when I'm telling the truth

    • Polygraphs are NOT accurate at detecting lying or deception. Don’t listen to police or polygraph “experts” who swear by their validity; their very livelihood often depends on the false perception that these machines work. There are several ways to beat a polygraph, some of which have been so effective, some polygraphers have adjusted their tests to counter. Conversely, innocent people can fail polygraphs - being nervous/anxious, ESPECIALLY when being asked a confronting question about a serious crime, is natural and common and boom you can fail. The primary use for polygraphs these days is as an interrogation technique to intimidate suspects into a confession. This technique relies on the false perception by a suspect that polygraphs are accurate lie detectors. Unfortunately, some police officers actually do believe in their validity. This just makes them worse investigators. There are many many instances where guilty suspects are ruled out by passing a polygraph, and innocent ones are charged for failing. I cannot stress enough how useless polygraphs are at detecting deception at anywhere close to a reliable rate.

  • As someone who was required to pass a polygraph, I can attest they are 100% beatable and pseudoscience. The way is quite simple, go into the test tuely believing it is fake science that does not detect lies, only bodily activity, and bite your toungue durring the preliminary questions you are suppose to lie about (not going to use a tac, that's way to much pain for what is needed). Truely believing the test can't detect lies allows you you stay calm, and biting your tongue during the preliminary lies makes the test giver think you are far more reactive to lieing then you actualy are. The combonation of these helps mello out your lies and limit the bodily responses you may have. If you are worried you might fail, you likely will. That means you have not truely accepted in your mind that the test is bullshit that can be easily gamed.

  • Surprised he didn't mention the most common technique (shown in one of Penn&Teller's BS episodes) which is the butt clench: tighten thighs, toes, and butt while being asked any of the questions, relax muscles as you answer. Another method you can combine with this is using yes/no questions is sing the same song in your head with the just the yes or no word then say the word audibly at the same point in the song each question. Both of these have you doing the same physical and mental strain for every question making it difficult to note if a deception was being done.

  • I would like to see someone take one, where the person and others know the truth about the questions, but the examiner doesn't, and then have the person deliberately lie about some questions. That would be a good way of gauging the accuracy. I always see people either make jokes, or answer questions that nobody else would know if the answer is true.

    @Guerrilla_OP@Guerrilla_OP4 ай бұрын
    • It's not accurate. Everyone outside the US knows that. It's like a fancy version of a telepathist or something like that. You also could throw a coin for every answer it'd be as efficient. The fact is every person reacts differently for different reasons. Some people are more some people less nervous. And certain questions trigger different emotions for different things in different people. Also with some preperation like building negative and stressful stories in your head when you are asked for things like your name, thinking about something nice when you have to lie or make sure you believe the lie yourself or whatever method works for you to not have a stronger reaction to the questions you lie to than to the control questions works to gain the desired outcome.
