Rusty Gigantic Scissors 1900s Restoration - You won't believe the result

Restoring an ottoman scissors from 1900. I found a very old but beautiful ottoman scissors on the internet. I immediately bought it and restored it. First of all, the scissors were disassembled. Then I removed the padding on the handle of the scissors. Since the scissors were quite rusty, they were sandblasted. I wanted to harden the metal of the scissors. That's why I gave the scissors heated and then cooled in the oil. The process was successful because a black layer (slag) formed. Then I sanded the surface and polished it to a high gloss. The handle of the scissors was covered with leather. The scissors look like new. Now she can survive against 100 years.

  • I like how most of the time, the restorations made are faithful to the original construction. But he also often makes small changes to make them function just a bit better, like making the scissors deconstructable instead of permanently bound like before. He's not just restoring them, he's making them efficient/updated to an extent.

    • I do not understand why he hardened and tempered the steel at all. I'd rather assume that the blacksmith who once made the scissors knew his steel and how to treat it so that it became both hard and tough. Hardness does not go away with time or a rusty surface.

I guess you could say my grandmother got me into these sorts of things. It brings me pure joy to see things in there old correct way and I also love to see things get a pick me up where people bring them back to life and restore them to new. I really enjoyed this video so thank you very much for making it. I'll have to be honest I had no idea what this scissors were for LOL. At first I thought they were farming scissors used cut the balls off of cows and sheeps but I guess I was wrong on that one LOL LOL. Those years are so big I can imagine they could be used for a lot of things;-).
