While I'd argue that Zippo is mostly responsible for the whole Midori situation, I think it's also fair that we hold ourselves responsible for this as well. The Sonic community needs to be better with how we handle leaks and rumors, especially since it caused us to lose our only reliable Sega leaker. So many of us just blindly hyped that "A SONIC HEROES REMAKES IS HAPPENING LETS GOOOOOOOO" only because Midori replied to ONE post that mentioned it. Either way, I hope this is finally the wake-up call for this community that we need to be careful about the sources we trust and what we need to do to PROTECT those sources.

Gonna really miss Midori being around, not just cause she helped us understand ATLUS' weird business decisions and what they plan to do with older titles that are never really used much, but also cause she was kind of just a regular in the persona community. Back in January I have this really fun memory of sitting in the Persona modding discord VC with her and a bunch of other people and it was just us looking though the Persona 5 beta that leaked with some guy that sounded like moist critical talking in the background it was just awesome. 😞
I hope that Midori is at least around in some fashion even if it isnt like a leaker or information gatherer. She seems like a nice person.

Midori just seems like she was so fun to have around alongside being a fun source of information. See I don't mind leaks, cause yeah they're bound to happen whatever. The only time I truly care is when shit like the Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth stuff happens, and now people are being spoiled on actual story content. That hurts. That's a no from me. Midori never spoiled anything but everyone would get so excited at hearing new Persona news cause goddammit we're hungry and we like to talk about the news.

Zippo really got some nerve bro. Midori was so real and we'll miss her, the information she provided was so valuable. I think with leaks it depends for me. When it’s vague enough to not know too much or we get told everything pretty much, those are fine with me. When it's halfway I feel some of the hype is cut without a real reward. Like Sonic x Shadow Generations, I'm still hype but had I not known Shadow would pop up, I would've been more hype.

While the Sonic Fandom should be ashamed for thier part in this. It does show that we need to take everything with a grain of salt, and not get overhyped when one person says that there's going to be X Game or X Game is getting remade/remastered. Though they were rightfully upset that we were given messy info. The person that should get most of the finger wagging and such should be ZIppo for literly providing bogus info and dragging Midori under the bus, and then double down and act professional when he knew what he did. And now the SEGA/ATLUS Community needs to band together and support one another than ripping each other apart because of one person's Ego.

I totally agree with the Sonic Toys Party type leak where's that TOO much but even with just simple words leaks can dramatically change the discussion to places where it shouldn't be, like the whole idea of there being Sonic remaster was just BS Zippo made up. We you get to a certain point, making stuff in between your real leaks is really messed up
For me Im ok with people like Pyoro who give fague enough clues where you know what its gonna be but only if you are a fan of that particualer franchise. What Zippo did to Midori tho was absoulte trash behavior bros on mega fraud watch now.

How I feel about leaks are a case by case thing. Yeah, I agree with you that I don't like trailers leaking or important game info and things like that. I wasn't a fan of the existence of Sonic X Shadow Generations leaking ahead of time because of the surprise factor that came with its reveal trailer. But most of Midori's leaks were usually just insider development on what's going on at Atlus and Sega's studios, including information regarding the development cycles of certain games that would never be revealed to the public otherwise, so I actually like leaks like that.
I feel bad for Midori: she didn't deserve to have this happen to her. I hope life gets better for her🙏

When I saw this I was in disbelief and had a bad feeling, what happened to Midori was very unnecessary and unpleasant, she didn't deserve it and on top of that everything made her leave, I wish her all the best and I hope she may come back better than before, to be honest I never took leaks seriously regardless of whether they were from Zippo or anyone else, believing in a leak is up to each person as it is a 50/50 bet as it could be true and it could not be, anyone can make a leak nowadays and use the craziest and most eye-catching things to attract people's attention or even distort official information just to attract more attention (like Zippo has already said so many things and you can count on one hand which ones he got right, taking away the most obvious and predictable options like sports games like Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. so it would be a warning for people not to take everything as 100% confirmed because companies can also be unpredictable) and the only thing that ensures this would be if there was a leak or accidental revelation by the company itself as happened with that clip revealing the initial version of Frontiers, Persona 3 Reload and the new Jet Set Radio, All of this sucks and people need to learn to take it easy so it will be calmer and healthier for everyone

This might be a wake-up call. SonicHub said he didn't understand why people read the Midori posts as confirmation in the first place, but he didn't want to be left behind the news discourse. And the Sonic Show admitted to burning bridges to post the leaked Toys trailer (meaning it was probably shared in confidence) and got his videos removed. I know none of our content creators want to cause problems, I believe we're all here for the love of it, but it gives the impression that the Sonic community can't responsibly handle leaks. And maybe that's true. I'm glad we're at least talking about it.

Seeing Zippo's behaviour with how he is misconstruing the story and trying to paint it like hes some big shot that only did whats natural makes me unbelievably angry. I cant imagine someone being so egotistical and self-absorbed that they completely wave off accepting any responsibility for their actions. I hope Midori is okay, she didn't deserve the treatment she got, it was so unfair to her.

Imo, I don't like big leaks too much because like you said it can hurt the product and also it can make the reveal less exciting cos you already know what is being revealed, so when you see the initial trailer it's way less hype. I also think that leaks can be quite harmful to "content creation" because it can put an emphasis on covering more leaks as quickly as possible and making content out of everything, which I think is very harmful to art as a whole because it puts more emphasis on mindlessly consuming content and that puts less emphasis on actually thinking about our favourite games and valuing the hard work that the artists/developers put in to make them. My favourite kind of leaks are actually the ones that are fake because they are fun to laugh at and they don't harm any actual product because they're not real so it's just harmless fun LOL

I have NDA information from different game companies from doing play testing, I get the feeling of knowing insider information, and games that were announced almost a year after I've already gotten to play them. These things happen, and it's unfortunate when it's full leaks, such as videos or a ton of info. I choose not to say anything because I don't want to risk them not inviting me back and/or hiring me at some point down the line

I do think this video is leaving out some crucial details and players. So like the general gist is -Midori learns Sega is MAYBE considering remaking Sonic Heroes -They tell this to their friend, who then tells Zippo -Zippo reports that a Sonic Heroes remake is 100% without a doubt happening and is probably next year -Midori says the information about a Heroes remake is true -They later clarify and say "it's only in consideration and nothing has started yet" -Sonic news website The Sonic Stadium reports that "No a Sonic Heroes remake is not in development" and while technically true, it is phrased in a way that makes it seem like the whole leak was fake, there's red X emojis and everything and they're like "would've been cool but it isn't happening" and only in the actual article (which if you know anything about the internet, people won't read beyond the headline) is it stated that a remake is being considered and still possible, but just hasn't been green lit yet -Sonic fans take this as "the leak is fake" and harass Midori for supposedly being a "fraud" -Midori leaves twitter -Zippo makes a statement on the drama that essentially boils down to "Sounds like a you problem tbh, my leaks are better" and claims the claim that they and Midori have a mutual friend who passes Midori's info to him is false, and then proceeds to expose themselves as an unreliable source of info for some reason by saying "If we DID have the same source, why do all MY leaks end up being fake?" There's a lot of different people you can throw the blame on for what happened, but overall we just need to do better and not witch hunt people just because a hypothetical scenario they mentioned MIGHT not be true. If you learn that someone's a fraud of a source, just move on dawg
As someone who chats with a lot of game devs and producers there are some key things to know. There are some leaks where someone is paid or incentivized to leak a certain aspect of a project to the public to build hype. These leaks are called soft leaks. However, leak culture is a moral grey area. Gamers have become too obsessed with knowing what's next from a studio instead of just patiently waiting and being surprised. I understand leaks can do some good like gathering feedback, but then again that goes back to what soft leaks are. Leak acc who completely just blurt out details of something unannounced are ones we should not be given attention to. Because 1) they broke the trust of NDA and the devs who worked really hard to keep it secret all for the person to get clout and 2) That mentality grows toxic and the game industry doesn't need another toxic community, especially when it has to deal with leaking information, sometimes private information for internet points.

Honestly, I've come to the realization that I much prefer leak culture much more when it deals with stuff that was shelved or isn't coming out, rather than with stuff that it claims will be coming out in the future. Like for example with things like Kirby GCN and N64 gigaleaks and the Coyote v. ACME controversy I'm open to leaks regarding information about those since it's clear by now that their respective companies have no intent to actually finish those and release them as they were supposed to be before getting axed. But with the majority of stuff that leak culture nowadays discusses like future game releases, directs, trailers and shit like that, it always leaves a sour taste in my mouth because half the fun of those getting revealed is well. The reveal, the surprise, the excitement taking you by storm in the moment. I've never really understood the appeal of people revealing the surprise for themselves ahead of time, but maybe that's just a me thing, idk. Because of my perspective on the whole thing, I'll admit that I wasn't really too disappointed in seeing Midori leave temporarily, since not only did I have no clue who she or Zippo were before the whole controversy, but for me it was just one less source of leak spoilers to worry about. But reading more information about this and learning that she was a respected and friendly figure anyway within the SEGA/Atlus community, I do feel for her circumstances, and I hope that she can take some time to breathe now that she's decided to come back. I know for sure that I personally don't like leaks, real or fake, but like you mentioned in the video, I've accepted their existence and place in online gaming culture as long as I've been on post-Miiverse social media (i'm like 18 lol). It's actually kinda funny, cuz I distinctly remember way back during the period leading up to Smash Ultimate's release I made an entire thread trying to debunk that leaked Ken Masters screenshot as fake (the one with Ivysaur and Pichu), and look who ended up joining the game a couple of months later. I guess I'll always be one of leak culture's biggest opps no matter how long it's around
I was disappointed by this thos she has always genuinely cared about us getting good information especially when reload was leaked i was beyond excited. Also i love your FF7 stuff in background it looks so cool

I never really knew any leakers, but my 2 cent is that leaks are more valid in a drought. When a series isn't really doing anything but instead of it done as X is this I prefer the way riddler Khu does it (if you know the Pokémon community then ya know) where it's less of straight to the point and more hidden, sure that *was* zippo's attention but I feel the real problem with leaks is when it's a smaller scale. A lot of fnf mods have died due to leaks, showing the *real* effects it has on people. compared to a big industry where that weakness is rarely shown. shown media is less interesting simply because there's not much for speculation, which in turn keeps people engaged. Overall, while it is sad it just goes to show that as a leaker it's better to have no track record than to have one, as being a figure means expectation and when you are usually right people will take things as gospel.

I'm a fan of the leaks that are more about the company's strategies and games they are considering. Those spark discussions on things we'd like to see and give us a chance to preemptively give feedback, while still leaving room to be surprised since we don't KNOW that's what they're doing. I'm not a fan of leaks of things that are actively being worked on. Not just because it makes the reveal less surprising and fun (personally), but also I've seen devs mention that leaks are very demoralizing and harmful to the morale of the team.

I think it really depends on what the leaker leaks. Dragon ball legends is a mobile game and ofc mobile games pretty much always gets leaks. Some leaks can hurt the big surprise developers have planned like recently ultra instinct for legends fest (Tbf tho Ui always gets leaked and its always by the developers 💀). For legends fest people had no idea who was gonna be next. We got beast gohan, goku & bardock, golden frieza, the blue duo, literally everyone was confused where it was going but it was so freakin hype. Obviously even when UI was leaked (its basically tradition at this point) people were still hyped. People were STILL surprised since legends prepared a whole orchestra and everything that shi was crazy man 🥶 but imagine how much more HYPE people would've been if they didnt know? This is where i think the problem come in. Sometimes companies stay quiet and people wonder whats going on. Sometimes leaks save the product because of droughts of info. (Save is an extreme term but its just an example) But then other times leaks can just ruin hype since everyone knows its coming. It really just depends when the leaker leaks it and if the leak is worth doing
Think leakers only prove we need more developer livestreams or blog posts. I remember on a random Tuesday night, the Elden Ring account just posts “new expansion in development” and people went nuts. Imagine if that was leaked? But it wasn’t. New news is best from the mouth of the ones making the game and when players get impatient, they go to 4chan or Zippo or whoever. Maybe it’s actually a patience problem 🤔 I Ignore all leaks unless it’s something I care about and want to know immediately

I agree that impatience and little to no understanding of the gaming industry causes many to rely on leaks. Initially Atlus revealed their projects too early (original P5, Re;Fantazio), resulting in long waiting times and impatient players, though Atlus themselves have financial and manpower problems before SEGA. Now they change tactics to reveal close to the estimated release window, which at least gives a strong promotion time between the first reveal and official launch. That again have the same problem of impatient players, since Atlus and SEGA were tight lipped in releases, though understandable since the projects were initially planned for earlier release but pushed back due to factors beyond their control.
Sucks Midori is leaving, she was a MAJOR credible leaker, in terms of Atlus and Sega content. Unlike Zippo, who's not really credible, mostly.

Really sucks what happened to Midori since we also lost a good reliable source as well. However I really have no idea why everyone jumped the gun so damn quickly after her frankly vague comment regarding the remake, are we that hungry? As for Zippo, I never took him seriously. He always seems to give safe/no-brainer predictions, whilst other times his posts just wouldn't make sense. Like his recent one regarding Sonic X Shadow where he said that wasn't the Shadow game he was talking about.

Not a fan of self-serving leakers. People should always put the developers' emotions first in these situations. Just because they're not publicly complaining doesn't mean this type of stuff doesn't effect them. I can easily see SEGA making work conditions worse after hearing they have rats.

I like leaks because it creates discussion and discussion is nice when we currently have nothing going on especially when the leaks are from credible sources. What's not so fun about leaks is people lying off their ass for 10 minutes and the fake leak actually being believeable like Sonic Adventure remake leaks and rumours starting back in 2018 or 2019 and then within the past few years we learn the remake is shelfed. I don't believe it because it just doesn't make sense, could it exist and have been shelfed? Maybe, but for now I'm not believing there were ever remakes in development
