@Old Iron Define "fake." By that standard, reading a book, learning something new, or watching TV is "fake." Gaming may not teach you how to hunt, but it does teach you problem solving skills, better hand/eye coordination, improves reaction time, and reinforces the idea of iterative and progressive improvement upon the mind. As all things, everything in moderation, but there are tangible dopaminergic benefits to gaming just as there are to many enjoyable, familiar activities. You enjoy rock music, you might enjoy a television series, I enjoy an engaging and interactive game. There's really not much tangible difference there other than the specific medium =) Also, there are plenty of games that require self-control, discipline, and patience as part of their modus operandi.

@Old Iron I think we'd could go back and forth quite a bit on the improve of hand/eye coordination, but that's not really my fundamental point. My suggestion is simply that gaming is no different in any objective way in terms of "fakery" than a television program, or reading a book. In each case, a fictional environment is created, but more often than not, "reality" is in how we define and perceive our world, as in the Heisenberg principle. There's that old saying: "Fake it till you make it," and the brain has an amazing ability to make concrete what was once intangible =) We all have things we enjoy in life, and there is little reason to denigrate one person's form of enjoyment over another. In the end, the frontal cortex relies on familiarity as well as muscle memory(with gaming) in order to activate the dopaminergic system in a meaningful way. As an artist and developer myself, I've found enormous amounts of inspiration from the game worlds and goal/objective-oriented world states that I've lost myself in. They are, in essence, entire worlds created by another human mind for us to explore and appreciate the nuance and subtlety of their art.

I was hunting one morning after staying up most of the night back in my teenage years. I sat down against a large oak and ended up falling asleep. I woke up startled as I felt the warm breath of something in my face. It was a curious doe and needless to say she went one way and I went the other both of us thought we had been gotten by the other. She was in my face as close if not closer than the spike seen here in the video.

Gaming may not teach you how to hunt, but it does teach you problem solving skills, better hand/eye coordination, improves reaction time, and reinforces the idea of iterative and progressive improvement upon the mind. As all things, everything in moderation, but there are tangible dopaminergic benefits to gaming just as there are to many enjoyable, familiar activities. You enjoy rock music, you might enjoy a television series, I enjoy an engaging and interactive game. There's really not much tangible difference there other than the specific medium =) Also, there are plenty of games that require self-control, discipline, and patience as part of their modus operandi.

My suggestion is simply that gaming is no different in any objective way in terms of "fakery" than a television program, or reading a book. In each case, a fictional environment is created, but more often than not, "reality" is in how we define and perceive our world, as in the Heisenberg principle. There's that old saying: "Fake it till you make it," and the brain has an amazing ability to make concrete what was once intangible =) We all have things we enjoy in life, and there is little reason to denigrate one person's form of enjoyment over another. In the end, the frontal cortex relies on familiarity as well as muscle memory(with gaming) in order to activate the dopaminergic system in a meaningful way. As an artist and developer myself, I've found enormous amounts of inspiration from the game worlds and goal/objective-oriented world states that I've lost myself in. They are, in essence, entire worlds created by another human mind for us to explore and appreciate the nuance and subtlety of their art.

Only get skittish during gun season and only sometimes then. One of the dumbest animals in the woods. I have zero doubt they would come right up to me if I tried at all.

@@tythehigh4768 actually hunting is slightly different depending on where you are. Last I checked if the Antlers are shorter than a set size, they can be killed and tagged. That said, I personally don't hunt, nor have I looked at laws regarding hunting in a handful of years.
Technically he was in no danger at all because the hunter didn't want a deer like that. Like others said, it's illegal to shoot the little deer, and the hunter was almost certainly on the lookout for a mature buck.

I was hunting one morning after staying up most of the night back in my teenage years. I sat down against a large oak and ended up falling asleep. I woke up startled as I felt the warm breath of something in my face. It was a curious doe and needless to say she went one way and I went the other both of us thought we had been gotten by the other. She was in my face as close if not closer than the spike seen here in the video.
