Fishing from shore with a Pocket Fishing Rod aka the Pocket Fisherman.. Does it actually work?? Is it any good? Can we catch some fish with this thing? We head out to go both freshwater and saltwater fishing to put this thing to the ultimate test and catch whatever bites! I did not expect for this to happen..

  • In the 70s I was fishing on a pier in Florida. A kid came out with one of these, which is a zebco reel inside the little rod set up. He caught a a 15ld snook with a frozen shrimp. With about of a dozen guys fishing with high bollar gear and live bait catching nothing. It was hilarious.

  • What fun. I grew up in the late 60s & 70s. My parents worked 24/7 and I was never taken on a fishing, hiking, camping, hunting etc trip. But I bought one of these with my own money at a garage sale as a kid and would ride my bike to a city lake used for containing urban run off. It was full of sunfish and bullheads. That thing was my introduction to angling. It was the perfect rig for a kid who really didn't have anyone to teach him angling and only had a bicycle and a can of corn. Folks, spend some time with your kids.

  • Hey firststate um I just wanna tell you that the best fishing time is usually early morning or late evening time ,I say this because of my experiences .Another things is that if u wanna catch bigger/better fishes you must use bait like mullet because big fish love that stuff and the chances of smaller fishes biting is unlucky .

  • Bought a pocket fisherman in the mid 70s when I was 13 and caught tons of catfish, bass, bluegill etc.... Used it a lot for a couple of years. Recently bought another one on Amazon and caught some nice barramundi with it in Thailand... You have to set the drag right and play the fish like using a regular rod and reel, don't just winch them in like you were doing. Also change the line to 30 pound braid if you don't want to lose the bigger fish!

    @shiprat@shiprat7 ай бұрын
  • I had one in about 1978-9. Drag ain't much but it is easier than wrapping line on a tin can repeatedly. Funny, backpack and a bobber. Use a stick to find bait. We had one in Alaska in 1981 on the airplane as I recall. Subscribed.

  • Just as you were saying, that fish was actually a PINFISH. It’s similar to a pigfish but actually different. It’s scientific name is “Lagodon Rhomboides” Lagodon is a genus of saltwater fish in the family Sparidae, the breams and porgies. It is monotypic, being represented by the single species Lagodon rhomboides, commonly known as pinfish. Other common names include pin perch, sand perch, choffer, and butterfish. It inhabits mostly subtropical shallow coastal waters of the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the United States and Mexico. HOPE THIS HELPS!

If i was bushwhacking id probably take the ronco just because of hplow solid it is, id be worried about the other rod i mentioned getting. usted in transit because its not all enclosed like the pocketpole.

  • I don't think it's a scam. I think it just has its niche for children and people travelling that for one reason or another can't bring a full-size fishing combo. It's inferior in every way that matters when it comes to fishing compared to a full-sized rod and reel, it can't cast for any appreciable distance, it can't fight any substantially sized fish and it won't be able to provide any good action to lures, but it CAN still catch fish. As long as your expectations are set low on the types of fish you can catch, it will still provide a good enough time on the water, compared to not being able to fish at all. And sometimes, just being able to fish is all the matters to an angler, regardless of the capabilities of their setup.
