  • I am not Ukranian but I have a friend who is married to a Ukranian girl. I think these youtube videos are afascinating insight into life in rural Ukrain. The lady's culinary skills are amazing and she is obviously a very hard worker and adedicated woman. How can anybody not respect this simple and honest way of life. Thank you, a man from UK.

    • Mountain life in the Western Carpatian Mountains is where our "Hootzools" live. They are generally known to be a very independent, yet wise and a colorful, charming people. There, I've had the best Chevre ("Brynza") Goat Cheese anywhere. My favorite place to visit is the Mineral Spring Spas at Yaremche, Ivano-Frankivsk, UA. *I am proud to say my father's family is Hootzool. SLAVA UKRAINYI!!! 🇺🇲🇺🇦🇨🇦

  • I’m here in America, Colorado to be precise and I don’t know her language but while she was praying I closed my eyes and could only imagine her words. I’ve got a feeling there were some words asking that the troubles in this world be over and that those away from home be returned as soon as possible. (I actually had tears in my eyes.)   • Дякую за чудовий Святвечір. Працьовита господиня приготувала смачні страви, як колись моя бабуся в дитинстві. Усі руху вправні, спокійні, впевнені. Таємнича атмосфера в хаті. Діти заспівали колядки. Усе до душі. Просимо тільки перемоги і миру. Ще раз дякую.

But Western Powers wanted Ukraine at ALL Costs (and heartbreakingly mostly Ukrainian cost in terms of human life - abut does NATO/West care??     • Украина предала веру православную , и ничего на Украине не будет хорошего, они посеяли вражду между своим народом, убивали 9 лет людей Донецка и Луганска, то какое там может быть добро, и обвиняли всё время Россию, позор такой Украине.   • Maria should be so very proud of her cooking skills. Everything looked absolutely delicious. I wish there had been English subtitles so I could understand her prayers and what the children were saying. I'd love to know more about Maria's like, not just the cooking.   • I am 2nd generation American from Ukrainian, Yugoslavian, and Russian grandparents and I am afraid we have lost so much of the old ways and foods. I have passed a little on to my (now grown) children. I miss my own parents this holiday season but watching this greatly warms my heart. And how I love cabbage!!!     • I feel the same way, my paternal grandparents can from Switzerland 🇨🇭. Since my aunt passed away we don't make any of the holiday treats. So this year I decided to embrace my swiss heritage. My cousins sent me about 10 Christmas cookie recipes, my grandmother's were all written in Swiss German. My maternal side have been in America for many generations, however we do have so family traditions passed down. My parents, aunts and uncles are all gone, so it is up to my generation to pass them on. My wish and prayers for you and Ukraine is peace.

  • It is fascinating to see the different cultures. Children going from door to door singing carols are very different from our experience. What a treat Maria shared with those little boys! How amazing to see Maria working in that beautiful white dress. I would never tend a fire dressed like that, I would end up with soot all over me...hehe. The dishes looked beautiful, and the simple way Maria dressed the table looked so elegant. Thank you for another beautiful video. Keep safe Maria and enjoy your festivities ❤👩‍🦽

    • The black seeds are poppy seeds for the sweetbread. The small cabbage heads are sauerkraut, fermented cabbage. Wild mushrooms, also pickled wild mushrooms. The compote was with dried apple slices, the other pot was with prunes, I believe, although I have never heard of a dish with beans and prunes (our country neighbours that region, but still some food is different).

As a little girl I remember helping my mother cook our traditional dishes and pastries and we used to implement all the customary traditions.
