Welcome to this weeks woodturning video:
Woodturning - Huge YEW on NEW Lathe
In this woodworking video I use a woodturning lathe to turn a huge yew log into a hand made, scorched edge bowl. The bark inclusion running down the centre of the bowl forced me to get inventive.

Like they say, If it don't hold soup, it's art. Definitely an artistic piece. When I first saw the hole saw I thought, 'Oh Hell, here we go with the resin.' I really liked the wooden plugs. Great job. Nice shop!

Jack! Yew are back!! 😂 Good to see you in my feed.
Magnificent! So many features to this piece. It spoke to you Jack and you drew all of the beauty out of it. Wish I owned it myself. ❤
Absolutely gorgeous! Awesome transformation! I love the round pieces of wood you pot in the large holes in the bottom of the bowl. The looked so cool and gave it another dimension! Great work!

Loving the new Lathe, that was so relaxing to watch thankyou for sharing
Me too. 😊. I’m glad you found it relaxing
Hey brother, it is good to watch you turning again, amazing project Jack, I like that you did not fill in the voids, it gives it a lot of character. I will see you in the next one.
Thanks. I felt the same about this piece. Normal service has resumed. Il see you next Friday 👍🏻
I too had no clue what was about to ensue, within the purview of what you can do. A slew of thoughts In my mind had began to brew, these I tried to subdue as I continued to view. Then, as if on cue, you drew on the yew, in your new, blue lathe and showed us it's true, That when pursuing a passion, you too can accrue, the skills possessed by only a few. Adieu!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
New materials...old experience...perfect result! Welcome back Jack!

Hey Seth. It’s been a while man. How are you mate?
@@JackMackWoodturning Yeah, it has! I’m doing alright. My day job has just been pulling in so many directions, I don’t know which way is up. Haha!
Very good jack.
Thanks a lot man, I think you might like my new vid. kzhead.info/sun/bKdpocOOg4yom5s/bejne.html 😊👍🏻
Ok, yew did a great job on the bowl. Why did yew leave holes in it? I can just see myself walking from the kitchen to the living room dropping cheesies all aver the floor. Then the cats will play football with them and they end up under the furniture. After that I have to move the furniture to clean the floor and get a sore back. So, fill the holes to prevent back pain.
Haha! It’s only fit for holding watermelons. I think you might like my new vid. kzhead.info/sun/bKdpocOOg4yom5s/bejne.html 😊👍🏻
Amazing bit of work. 😃
Glad to see you back. Missed you.
Cheers Randy. Nice to be back 👍🏻
Yew is such a beautiful wood. It would be so nice of we could get it here in the US. Really like the use of the turned plugs across inclusions and voids. By turning them you’re not pinned down to the sizes of dowel available. They feel a bit more organic to me than the butterflies most folks are using. Tons easier to prep for too. Well done!
Thanks doug. Yes I wanted to show something a little more user friendly than bow tie bracing. I considered straight splines like some of Ellsworth’s work but settled for the thing that most people can replicate if they run into such a huge structural defect. 👍🏻
Nice to see you back! You've got a new machine?
Yes I do! Might have to sell it soon though. The algorithm has broken me. I think you might like my new vid. kzhead.info/sun/bKdpocOOg4yom5s/bejne.html 😊👍🏻

Superb Jack-------I feel lucky, not only do I have identical lathe (but 20 years old, & still going strong) but I also managed to get about a ton of similar yew wood this winter, although a bit wet right now. Love your videos.

@@JackMackWoodturning It's not going well, I don't have many views Good health, my friend from here in Romania!!!
i wish i had a bandsaw that sawd that high
Haha. I used to feel the same. I bought that saw on finance. I paid something like £37 per month for it. Never noticed it coming out my account. You’ll end up paying more than the ticket price but if you never notice paying it than what’s it matter. 🙂
Very nice mate, Love the Idea to fill the voids with plugs of Yew.... Jobs a good'un
Crazy Papa Carlo! 😂😂😂
Thanks
Welcome back lad. Stunning work as always. My second favourite wood after cherry. Hope the new lathe is all you wished for. Top respect from the South East

Nice one Jack, really love that new toy! What a solid beauty!
You and me both D. Good to see you man 👍🏻😊
I am NOT one bit jealous of your new lathe OR your skills..... but, you deserve everything, man. Much love!
😉👍🏻
Holy crap. You got some beauty tools just from the couple things you showed in the video. Great work
Thanks Steve. Much appreciated buddy. What would you use the bowl for?
I'm just a beginner when it comes to the lathe and whatever I make I usually just hands it over to the wife and she decides what it's good for. Lol
That's def beautiful lump of yew! Do you have an affiliation with a church lol ?!? 😁 also in your description I think you meant undesirable? Keep up the beautiful work!! ❤
Can you make something, covered in epoxy with playing cards inside
I actually tried this already. The cards absorbed the resin and lost their colour so it looked bad. I have a solution though so may attempt it again 👍🏻😊
Невероятно что такая красивая вещь может выйти из куска дерева😊😊😊😊😊
Funny, I just checked yesterday to make sure I was still subscribed and then you put out another cool video. Congratulations on the new lathe and welcome back.
