Woodturning - A Large Piece of Yew !! (no mid roll ads)

2023 ж. 3 Мам.

In this wood turning video I turn a natural edge bowl from a large Yew log. With the size of the piece and the cool looking natural edge I knew it would be out of balance and even with my makeshift lathe support I had to start turning around 250 rpm and I think the maximum speed I got to was around 550 rpm so it was definitely a challenging piece to turn, I finished it with Danish oil...

  • You've got the patience of a saint and an attention to detail that is all too rare in the age of mass-produced garbage. It's nice to see how some of the techniques you've developed while making these videos have become second nature at this point. Please keep on turning, I never miss a project.

Then I wiped my tears and said give him a minute and see what he does with it, I shouldn't have doubted you to know how to bring out more beauty that's already there... Wow that was a tense one... Great job.. ❤️❤️❤️

  • Another inspiring turning. You are the Buster Keaton of wood turners. Here is PNW we have Pacific Yew trees. They are not easy to come by for several reasons. As a forest worker I have compiled a good number of yew chunks, will turn as I get more competent. Have come across a yew wood tree years ago on ridge with an approximate 36-40" DBH. Was very pyramidal as it was only about 60' tall with healthy top.

  • Stunning piece of wood - that must have been an ancient yew. Not just the size, weight and shape but the hardness of yew as well. You can always see the potential in a piece of wood and tailor the approach to fit. Nothing remotely like any of the gatepost series because there is nothing like this convoluted piece. I hope it was as much fun to produce as it was to watch.
