2B1 Oka Transformer has arrived !
This Russian Howitzer Had a Bigger Gun Than Iowa-Class Battleships.
2B1 Oka (Russian: 2Б1 Ока) is a Soviet 420 mm self-propelled heavy artillery.
The Oka used a T-10 heavy tank hull as a chassis.
Its 20-meter barrel allowed it to fire 750 kg rounds up to 45 km.
The rate of fire of the gun according to technical specifications was 12 shots per hour.

    • Your comparing 420mm with slightly less than A Ton from 1957 with 600mm of around 2 tons from 1940 (But the transformer had at least a increase in Range)

    • The Karl Gerät was much older and "chambered" in 600mm not 400mm. The soviets could have done a lot better but considering it was more of a propaganda project im not surprised they didnt put any money in it.

    • totally useless artillery, it has about 0 accuracy, huge and slow, easy to be detected by anti-artillery radars and destroyed in counter-battery battle, can be used in battle against civilians but not against the army

    • @@Devnbp1 Well first of all mister reddit general, these were ww1/2 artillery there was no aRtiLlErY rAdaR. Neither were there any jdams or laser guided sdbs you could drop. To reinforce these machines they also were placed fairly far behind frontlines and protected by several anti air batteries and usually a flight of several interceptors on standby to do what they do best and intercept any incoming bombers. Were they easy targets? Yes were they slow to reload? Yes. But getting to them was a lot more difficult and their accuracy was good enough to fulfill their purpose which was blowing giant holes into big bunker arrays on a reinforced front.

  • The swedes were and still are engineering marvels from cars to planes and tanks. The Bkan 1C was a terrifying spg with its insane rate of fire, the archer is another quick firing swedish spg, The stridsvagen 103 series of tanks were amazing for a fixed barrel MBT with its cool suspension, and the list goes on and on.....

  • I am a bit disappointed that the list did not include the first fully automated howitzer, the Swedish 155 mm self-propelled gun on the chassi of the "kranvagn" prototype tank, in service from the mid-sixties and weighing 55 tons with a range of 30 km with "base flow" shells (24 km ordinary shells).

  • Nice to see Emperor Winnie on PLZ-07, the effective range of 27km is not impressive when it's quite new entered service in 2009 outclassed by US, Russian, German & British howitzer by far. Optimus Prime MP-01 at the end, the color of its arm in correct, there's no white color in betwen the red, only the joints actually

    • @@ayuayu958 Yup. It was a testbed launcher for aircraft bombs that could launch anything the bombers would carry while not needing a runway or an experienced pilot. The projectiles were, of course, shot with a sabot that made them fit the massive barrel.

  • 8:45 2B1’s barrel length is about 20 meters. The barrel length of the German Paris gun from WWI was about 21 meters. Basically what the Soviets did was put a Paris gun on tracks. Mobile Paris gun. And up the caliber by over 200mm.

  • Aw, thanks for including the BT-42! I don’t suppose you’ve ever seen “Girls und Panzer der Film”? In that movie, during the fight against the university team’s Karl-Gerät, Keizoku’s BT-42 leaps a gap to knock out one of the Pershing tanks guarding the mortar, and later manages to keep going on its drive wheels after losing its tracks.

  • regarding the french CAESAR cannon, i don't know where you got the production numbers, but its not a miserable "8", otherwise that would mean we send avery last one of them in afghanistan 😅 you probably got confused with the variants as the cannon system can be mounted on different chassis, but overall there has been 400 ish build, around three quarters of that were exported.
