‪Superhuman Filipino diver from the Badjao tribe ;BBC

This man descend 20meters (65feet) to sea floor, hearts slows down to 30beats per minute, squezzes its lung to 1/3 of its initial volume, even without weights he is negatively bouyant enough to strive across the bottom of the sea as if like hunting on land, 2 1/2 minutes of hunting under pressure. He can still manage to stay as long as 5 minutes! - indeed a superhuman. This man from the Badjao tribe has the potential to win our country a gold medal in the olympic games.-Admin Panda-

    • It's called adaptation, in the same way how someone struggling to swim can learn how to do it with enough time, and with even more time can do basic freediving a few meters below the surface. These people have spent their whole lives learning how to do this, and having enough food for the day can depend on this skill so they would be extremely skilled at this. Anybody can learn to do it but not a lot of people choose to.

Primitive fishing is one of the main source of livelihood and food for Badjaos and other tribes in our islands. This “basic” exercise for them is deadly but it puts food in their table.

    • @@jzjzjzj black and white competitive free divers have also been found to have larger spleens so Im not sure what your point is. All humans have the mammalian dive reflex, not just the badjao. Granted the badjao would have an advantage due to them actively engaging their reflex to this day, but you initially made it sound as if only the badjoe still posses the genetics for the mammalian dive reflex when you stated that no "white or black man" could do what they do. I've heard stories about them being so adapted to the water that they actually get land sickness when they are out of the water for too long. This is how you get mermaids.

    • Bro it took thousands of years for his entire tribe to be able to do that through evolution. They are called sea nomads from the philippines. So basically Thousands of years when they first started diving, the Philippines who were good at it, made babies and continued on surving. The ones were that were bad at it just died. So their whole tribe became a people who were good hunting underwater for long periods of time without modern equipment.. just. Because of evolution. The strong multiplied, creating offspring who could mimic their parents underwater abilities. And the weak just died off. Nobody else on Earth can dive without equipment like that bro. Nobody. Thousands of years. Remember Thousands of years it took them to evolve.

I'm an athletic teen, and I can hold my breath for about 2:30 but ONLY while staying dead still. My heart beat probably goes down to 50 bpm if I really try. You can literally sleep at 40 bpm and this guy is lower than a sleeping heart rate whilst exercising!!! To do this abstract thing you have to be very well adapted and have a whole family tree adapted to water such as bigger lungs and lower heart rate to use less oxygen, it's completely ESSENTIAL to stay that long down there. To stay this calm while doing work and 30 bpm is just insane to me and I swim too (not competitively, I just swim very well recreationally).

I am able to keep up with them…no problem. I’ve never kept Track of the time while under water….nobody does. We don’t have watches. But, I have a watch and recorded our time in the last visit. 13 minutes average. Each dive. You don’t think much of it. Never knew humans not supposed to be under water over 5 minutes.

  • To the people who is not familiar with Filipino Ethnic groups, they must learn to stop saying that BBC documentary is fake. This is not surprising for Badjao tribe to be able to sustain their breath under deep waters since their traditional habitat all their life is of course, the sea

    • +Frame Work So what are you saying? This is fake? Do you do this type of work since you were 15? Day in, day out, 6-10 hours each day just hunting like this? Didn't think so. Just because you can't do it doesn't mean they cant. Lol.

  • I dont care if you can hold your breathe longer than five minutes. Try walking 60 feet underwater while looking for a fish. This is truly a sight to behold.
