    • @@jeremiahtorrevillas4396 Yes

      @BlazekonHD@BlazekonHDАй бұрын
    • @@jeremiahtorrevillas4396 Not invasive, but overpopulated. The predators that eat them are being overfished and losing habitat due to climate change so the sea urchins are growing out of control and eating too much kelp. To combat the overpopulation they're harvesting them/popping them open to feed fish not adapted to combat their spines.

    @SuzyB_@SuzyB_Ай бұрын
    • Urchins will lay millions of eggs in a year. It takes about 2-5 years for them to reach maturity to reproduce. Note: I’m reading this from Purple Sea Urchins, not sure about the urchins in the vid. But I can imagine most species of Sea Urchins will lay many eggs per year.

      @vinokai@vinokaiАй бұрын
    • @@vinokaiTLDR: they will repopulate fast.

      @cookingwithkimbap4432@cookingwithkimbap4432Ай бұрын
    • @@cookingwithkimbap4432 I mean, not necessarily. While in egg/infancy stage they're subject to the typical harsh conditions of any young creature. Disease, weather, and predators will easily lower the number of urchins that reach sexual maturity. Of course, that really just means a hundred thousand will live to maturity rather than the whole millions of them so I guess it's a moot point lol.
