Aquatic Affection: How a Scuba Diver Found a Good Friend Under the Sea
Scuba diver Hiroyuki Arakawa and Yoriko are the unlikeliest of friends. While they both share a love for the sea, Yoriko's gills and tail make her a little more aquatically inclined. Nearly every day for the past 25 years, Arakawa has been diving into the waters of Hasama Underwater Park in Tateyama, Japan, to visit Yoriko-an Asian sheepshead wrasse. One day, Arakawa found her looking exhausted and carrying an injury. So he did what any friend would do: he took care of Yoriko, feeding her crabs and nursing her back to health. Their decades-long friendship is proof there's no greater bond than the one between man and fish.

HES IS NOT MY BOYFRIEND
I love these type of videos on how animals and humans can have such close bonds, just as me and my pet rock
Julis Elias you have a pet rock! Where did you get one
the rock came from squidward's grave containing his hopes and dreams
How old is your rock? Mine died a year ago :(
not funny, nice try !!!
Julis Elias Do You Mean Play With Yourself? lol
Whats sad is how one day that mans not gonna come back... And the fish wont know or understand
Wastucar damn bro i was smiling at the comments but now i wanna cry when i think about what you commented 😭😢
The fish probably only stayed with the man because he gave them food. If the man hadn't given the fish food then the fish would never have any interest in him. The fish probably realized that by letting the man pet him then he could have a greater chance of survival.
Thanks now I want to cry
Wastucar wow thanks for that...
Wastucar why would you even... 😭
The fact that he is 79 years old diving is an accomplishment itself....👏🏽
That's 79 three years ago.. He is now 82.. He is a blessed man..
Yet my grandma is 5 years younger, takes the car everywhere she goes and complains she is always exhausted. She can't even walk up the stairs without getting winded.

Wow! 30 years of friendship. That’s amazing 😄
Unreal. It’s beautiful
Amazing how long this particular relationship can last considering that they can't even verbally communicate with each other.
better than 90% of my relations
Yoriko is like the gatekeeper of the underwater shrine gate sent by God....and its so magically beautiful that it bought tears to my eyes .
Maha Rao can you please explain it more i am quite fascinated by the Japanese culture?
in shinto religions animals are usually gatekeepers of shrines. there are foxes, cats, fish etc. they are sent by their master ie gods godesses to watch over the shrines their follower makes to make sure its well maintained
Gerald Soria thank you
Gerald Soria Did you get all that by watching 'Spirited Away?' Were you spirited away yourself by any chance?
Maha Rao god my imagination make my tears falls
When he said he was proud of saving that fish, I felt his pride.
I read an ariticle about them a year ago and they are both still alive and he is 84 and diving almost everyday. God bless him!
This man is a gift to the world. I hope he’s still alive and well.
I also want to know❤❤❤
I read an aricle about them a year ago and they are still alive and well. he was 84 last year and still diving almost everyday to see her.
She is going to be so sad when he can’t dive anymore 😢. I love this story so amazing

30 years of friendship with a fish is amazing. Humans (some humans) are keen on forging friendships with animals I feel but it’s awesome that animals want to reciprocate

BUUUUUUURN!
Bless him a thousand times over for caring for that delightful creature
To build such a bond with an unlikely friend that lasted for more than 30 years is an amazing achievement only few in this world could achieve 💜💜💜
The very first thing that went through my mind, is that someday, they won't be able greet each other. Let's face it, the guy is 79 years of age. One day, he won't be around, and the fish will still be in the area, waiting for her best friend to come back so they can swim together just like the old days. And she will never understand why her savior doesn't come and visit her anymore.
Well in the wild animals die all the time so there probably won't be a real sense of "what happened?!" it's probably just accepted in the wild that things won't always be there.
Yoriko, the fish is over 30 years old now. They typically only live 25 years. So glad you enjoyed this little film, stay tuned for more.
John DK i read that they can survive up to 200 years or longer?
When i read your comment 😭😭😭😭
i q wtf that’s not true! Thats green land sharks
What a touchingly beautiful story! The diver clearly cares a great deal about the creature, and it certainly welcomes his help and support. 61 years a SCUBA Diver is really quite an achievement!

This is how you know in ancient times we were much more in tune with animals. These connections are amazing
I love this species of fish! They are very smart and affectionate, They're like puppies! I would love one as a pet but I wouldn't enjoy it as much marveling at it wild. I have a lot of respect for Mr. Arakawa!
amazing, simply amazing, the fish certainly looks like a dog underwater, super curious and sweet. I hope they both can enjoy a few more years together! I already love this new series, the intro is superb!
Stories like this warm the soul; no doubt about it. They help replace the ever so prevalent, stories of gross abuse, outright cruelty & neglect of both pets & wildlife. I've heard more than once from people who say they like animals more than humans. Years ago I thought that was a stretch,,,,,,,🤔. Now? Not so much ☹️; I get it! Respect.
I pray their friendship last as long as they both are well and healthy. Very cool
That's seriously impressive foreal 60 year's of doing something he loves is amazing :) we should strive to be like this man in life. Find your passion and never give up on it regardless of your age.
This made me take a calm deep breath. We share the earth and this life with other beings. What would it be like if all of us can have such a relationship with them even in the wild? Thank you to this kind man for showing us what is possible
That's amazing, 30yrs!!! thats a great bonding they have, I hope they mores years together
Very wholesome. I love videos where people respect and form relationships with animals
I used this to convince my parents that animals can be friends with you. I love animals!
Japan has legendary friendship stories. Hachiko and this one
Wow. What an amazing man. For him to be scuba diving, doing a job and to notice a fish who was incapacitated, unable to feed itself and to help and then build the relationship over the next 10 years… just wow.
The world needs more of this. I’m sending a long deep bow sir, in admiration of your lotus heart.

the fish is a spirit protecting the shrine, and it loves him for still taking care of it while its under water.
That was a beautiful telling. Much thanks to the kind and gentle man who cared enough to make a difference. I love seeing these heartfelt human/animal interactions. A very nice reminder of all the good still in the world, thanks for popping up on my YT. :)
Any updates?? Is this guy still alive an diving since Covid??
I've always thought that fish were creatures of low-intelligence and thus unable to develop a close bond with humans. Seems like I'm wrong all along.
Most animals are capable of developing a relationship of "This human feeds me".
A great book about how amazing and admirable they are is: What a Fish Knows.
Dude, each and every animal is smarter than you think
Big brain time
CupDio I’d say this is what a big brain fish looks like if I’ve ever seen one.
Jealoussss. That's cool as hell to be blessed with a situation like this
You know he has a big heart when people love and cares animals like that.. ❤
This game makes a friend out of freaking fish and I can’t even get someone at school to acknowledge I’m there
The editing and the transition of that one part of the video before the title is amazing!
There is something special about animal and human relationship
I can take or leave compliments from people, but when an animal loves me I feel prouder of that than any accomplishment.
I wonder if he’s had sex with the fish!

I had a similar experience off the coast of Nassau, in the Bahamas. I was on a live-aboard for a week, accompanied by a large group of friends and an incredible crew. One of the dives I did was a shark dive on a wreck. This involved everyone submerging to around 60 feet and holding onto the rail of the sunken ship in a large semicircle, then a member of the crew would swim down with a massive icicle of Chum, attracting hundreds of fish and dozens of sharks. While we were waiting, a juvenile Nassau Grouper, approximately 8 inches long, greeted the captain in the center of the circle by swimming up to him and touching nose to nose, after some petting from the captain, he began to make his rounds throughout the group. He started on one side of the semicircle and swam by everybody 1 by 1, allowing everyone to pet him. While I don't have video of the interaction between the captain and the grouper, I have video of him swimming around the group and I have video of me petting it.
Also, if anyone wants the video, I will dig it up and upload it, just ask.
@@alexcarsten9861 Alright where is the video
In today’s scary world, this warmed my heart.
It is not said enough, but to be prejudice is to burn bridges before they are even built. When you realize life and your place in it, you open up the door to seeing beauty that doesn't rely on aesthetics. It's interaction and trust that makes it truly beautiful. This has reminded me of that. Thank you so much
He should be proud! He's great!

This channel is so awesome and adorable. Their punchline of "needing a break from the news" is more and more true as time progresses.
True hero. God bless those who help animals.
It's hard to explain to someone that hasn't spent any time underwater. It's amazing. As soon as you submerge your stress melts away. Nobody is around to bother you. All you hear are the bubbles you exhale from your regulator and the sounds fish make, rocks falling, etc.
What an amazing person. This is a wonderful story. Outstanding.
