It’s blue because of a bile compound called biliverdin, which is a byproduct of dead red blood cells breaking down. Previously thought to be useless, we now know that biliverdin has anti-mutagenic and extremely effective anti-oxidant properties. This is theoretically very useful for a fish that lives 30 years and expends a lot of energy. The liver is gigantic because it dines on many poisonous creatures.
that is absolutely fascinating
one would think biliVERDIN would be green
@@MrLollerka blue and green are used together in ancient languages very often
It's Blue because God created it to be blue! Nothing less, nothing more!

I did gag seeing the slime on that fish. However seeing it broken down and finding out about how it was caught and prepared was a really beautiful process! Thank you for sharing!
That asmr slime really made me gag. I was not ready for that lol

So disgusting 🤢

In Indonesia, since 2013, this fish is officially a protected specie. It is uncommon to see a big one like this. I hope everyone watching this video also google about the fish and learn more about it.
Right! I’m from Palau and this would be illegal there too
Really a derogatory video regarding the importance of fish. I didn't like it either
This is truly sad, a video is more important than an endangered species😟😪

I love how he tries a bunch of different parts, not just the muscle meat. Makes me wonder if he's ever found a fish where the meat was bad, but something like the scales or the liver were delicious?
there was the jellyfish where only the ring on the very outer edge was super delicious and the rest was bad!
this is an endangered species
@@hogihigifyfudud123 It is endangered due to many factors, it is still legal to fish and buy, this video in no way promotes, or uses, overfishing or any other harmful techniques.

@@spingebill4392 Spearfishing is also the most sustainable and ethical method of fishing for the environment too.
I don’t eat fish at all, but I am fascinated with the skill set of butchering these large fish. I truly believe butchery is an art form. Y’all make it look so easy.
Do you not like the taste of fish? It's my favorite type of meat. Way more nutritious and easier to digest than red meat, or even poultry.
@@jazzfeline5970 it's a bit of a long story but when I was a teen we got stuck in the mountains for 6 weeks and only ate fish 3 meals a day. This place we were in had 17feet of snow fall and we couldn't get down the mountain. To this day I can even smell fish cooking. I am fascinated by the skills in butchering though.
@@jarodchronister3522 Woah, that's a much crazier response than I could have anticipated. It sounds like you could write a short story about that. Coincedentally, I recently watched a short documentary about a group of English teens who were trapped in a blizzard during a school trip to Germany. Five of them froze to death.
@@jazzfeline5970 we were fortunate to have food for sure but eating fish for that long ruined fish for me.
Art form lol? That’s a stretch.
i love how detailed your videos are as always, especially when it comes to the taste testing! you're always a fun watch 😆
I work at an aquarium and we have this type of fish (not as big though, he's still growing). A part of me found this interesting in a morbid sort of way, but on the other hand I'm screaming because I'm just picturing this happening to our Napoleon 😅
The way you described how disgusting the hump tastes literally had me crying tears from laughing. Thanks for this great video masaru san
It's a shame, I really would have hoped he would have enjoyed the whole fish, including making a stock of the bones, considering this is an endangered species.
@@nothingissacred5157 yeh, i get mixed feelings from this channel for that reason.
I watched another KZheadr, Kimagure Cook, try the hump once, and he, too, described it as the worst thing he’d ever eaten, so I’ll admit that I became both gleeful and apprehensive in equal measures when he said that he was going to eat it.
I would never normally enjoy anyone filming themselves eating an endangered species...IMO, there are some significant differences between this guy & his 1 fish vs. some of the other ppl I've seen doing it. This fish wasn't caught by long lines, trawler boat or anything else that is actually doing irreparable harm to our seas. There is nothing wrong with a man & a fishing pole or spear gun getting a few fish to feed their family/village, they are not the reason our oceans are in serious trouble...it is in taking ENTIRE schools + killing thousands more in by-catch/ignoring catch limits on species & illegal fishing in places that designated sanctuaries. This fish wasn't bought for pennies, then being shipped off to a foreign country to be sold to the highest bidder to feed wealthy businessmen bc they think it offers some Xtra potency in the bedroom. This guy said he was going to share some of the filets with ppl on his island that wanted to also try it. Anyway...that's just how I see it. Lots of fishermen are out of jobs...if we put them back to work, fishing like they do for Bluefin now, just a few lines at a time & charge more for it so some ppl aren't relying on it 3 meals a day & let our oceans heal for a few years...or do something else, but just do SOMETHING! I digress, sorry, I just really worry about them, but I don't think this guy's the problem. ♥️✌🏼🦈
I think it tasted that bad cause he boiled the hump and the liver together 🤣😂
I spent half an hour watching this dude cook a giant fish, and it's like 2am already. Still pretty worth jt

Did you ever spend some of that time researching the fish he cooks to realize that anywhere else in the world it would be illegal and looked down upon ive watched 5 of his videos so far and each one is an endangered species that the rest of the world protects some fish that in less backwards places your not even allowed to target while fishing but hey thats why europe and america have decent sport fisheries and all our mainland species are plentifull

@@DeReAntiqua would you lay off it. We get it, it’s endangered. If you don’t like the video, then don’t watch it. Just because something is endangered does NOT mean it’s illegal or unethical to hunt/fish it. I’ve seen you on 3 separate comments that have NOTHING to do with this and I’m sure there’s more. As long as laws are followed, there is nothing wrong with what he is doing. Laws are made with input from EXPERTS in the field of conservation and fishing. Humans hunting and fishing within laws HELP conservation of wildlife. And I say this as someone who HATES both hunting and fishing. Get off your high horse. If it bothers you so much, then find a Save the Napoleon Fish charity to help out! Let other people enjoy what they want to enjoy, you are the type of psycho, aggressive activist that makes the actual good ones the butt of every joke. You don’t come from a place of wanting to educate about a topic you genuinely feel passionate about. You just want to ridicule and belittle others for not sharing your view of the “evil, evil man” in the video. Until you know how to be a positive, PRODUCTIVE activist, you should be advocating for anyone but yourself.
@@DeReAntiqua countries ARE allowed to make their own laws you know. As long as the actions taken DO NOT leave the boarders i. Which i5bis legal, then it IS legal. If the fish was sent to another country, it would then become ILLEGAL. That IS NOT the case here. That’s why certain things like smoking weed and different drinking ages can be acceptable in one place and outlawed in another. There are different levels of law. You obviously don’t know a damned thing. In the US laws are broken down by local, state, and federal levels. What is legal at a local level cannot be brought to a state or federal court so long as it DOES NOT leave the borders in which it is local. Same goes to international laws. As long as the actions in question happen WITHIN THE BORDERS WERE IT IS LEGAL it CANNOT be brought to an international court. You’re just screaming into a void looking for validation for being “so kind and conscientious towards conservation efforts” when all you’re doing is sticking your opinion where it is neither asked for nor wanted. Like I said, people like you make those who ACTUALLY do good works look bad, so knock it off. If your so upset, then go make a petition or join a group for advocating changes. But don’t make your lack of knowledge on laws and how they work other people’s problems. As much as I hate hunting and fishing, I would RATHER a hunted animal’s meat be consumed because than it didn’t die for nothing. And don’t bring up ivory or other bs like that. Eating food where it is legal to eat it is VASTLY DIFFERENT than smuggling contraband across borders.
@@DeReAntiqua why not? I read your unhinged rants. And I’m pointing out how you don’t know shit from sugar when it comes to the law or conservation, so likely, you did read what I wrote, didn’t like it, and are now pleading ignorance to make your bruised ego feel better. That’s what people like YOU tend to do.
@@DeReAntiqua shut. Up. There’s 2 words for you then.

Very entertaining as always Masaru san. Would you consider adding either a short commentary or timer to understand the length of time it takes for you to cut these fishes? I’m very curious how long it takes for you to cut up giant fishes such as the Napoleon fish. Thank you!
Well, in his episode on the 150kg bluefin tuna he said it almost takes him 5 times longer filleting while filming, that time it took him almost 6 hours
I think it would be really cool if he also talked about the species more, and discussed ethical sourcing, since this is an endangered species.
This was hilarious! I love that he tries all these different parts not knowing what they will be like and some of them are awful. So refreshingly honest!
