"So what style do you guys play?" Polyphia: Melodic Flex
I get so frustrated when I find amazing bands like this, YEARS after they've been killing it... Like WTF... How did I miss them?
SAME
Same bruhh
KZhead's algorithm is legit trash
Wait till you find about Dream Theater.
@@complex4059 i know dream theater
you know, when I was like 9 to 10 years old, I was super proud of being able to play the first 3 minutes of John Petruccis "Wishful Thinking" and I thought to myself "what if you'd combine dance music with cool ass guitar sounds? I'll do that one day!" . In the end , I had forgot about it and I've never done or even tried it, now, 10 years later, I've found out about Polyphia and I'm super happy :)
Nice pfp I love Deaf Grapes
@YoStefan This track actually has a lot of "Dance" (or EDM as a genre) elements in it. If you listen to hybrid trap, future bass or EDM in general, you will find these half time grooves, off beat kicks, chord stabs, some vocal chops, fast arps, glitches, some snare hits/sounds found in trap. As a producer myself, I really love what Polyphia do, their 2018 album was incredible
@@OmenAhead Yes it is 😍Please do check out my new track 'SWEET HOME" which has some Indian music over Trap beats 😃
It's cool that you guys got MatPat to dance for you
Hello internet, welcome to MUSIC THEORY, the show that's actually just 6 years of college classes that your dad tells you won't get you anywhere in life.
Lmao!
I think its cool for MatPat to get a chance to dance in Polyphia's video :)
Omg lmfao
This would be a lot funnier if the dude looked anything like matpat
It looks like a japanese-aesthetic-Mountain Dew commercial.

Sounds like a Shounen anime intro without the Japanese dude singing his lungs out.
lmaoo
literally oll polyphia song ever
There were some good comments so far, but none of them made me laugh out loud and kinda hard, like this one! Congrats homie! ...anime intro without the Japanese dude singing his lungs out!” Priceless comment man!
@@guitourney cause most of their chord progression are similarly of that jpop chord progression.
Half the comments is the reason why I think this "outcast" mindset of people who listen to rock, alternative, prog rock/metal and other sub genres is incredibly outdated. You don't have to like a specific genre. In fact a mix of them might sound great! For people who don't confine or limit themselves into specific genre, this is a breath of fresh air. Definitely has the positive vibes to it!
Taking best of every aspect sounds good in concept that's but its easier said than done also, they came to be in a long span of time & can be identified with aspect of each craft so, for you to say they are outdated. I listen to every genre of music as I enjoy each aspect of them & I recently came across polyphia which i enjoyed it but they are alright, talented as of now but they aren't as new as genre defining or even close as you'r trying to... they'r mix of different genre of technique & beat which you can find dim a dozen specifically in digital genre.. so, I wouldn't necessarily say breath of fresh air but one of many that doesn't relate to any but also doesn't 've it own ID...
@@ddlcp you need to read what you wrote and edit x makes no sense!
@@TheLovewhite If everything made sense right away that would be the most dull aspect of things & that's not how this work. you need to read between the subtlelty to truly understand what I'm tryin to say. If you'r that dumb to figure it out then you can kindly fk off somewhere esle & tell it to someone who give a fk. I'll be waiting 3: )

This comment aged very well, they were pushing genres before the world was ready for it.

Never thought a djent/progressive instrumental band's music can combine with dance & electrico song. Really amazing , cheers from Taiwan!
not even djent, just a prog rock band
Well, they used to be djent.
Been in this scene for 7 years, noticed the chugging, 'djenty' shit first with slipknot and all that remains and trivium. Picked up structures' all of the above at 15. Volumes concept of dreaming at 16. Northlane, periphery, monuments, modern day babylon, Gideon (which is a stretch), substructures, erra, elitist, fuck you name it I jammed it hard at 17. And so on and so forth. I know all about this shit and polyphia is totally progressive metal. If not in thick complex phrasing or song structure, then in simple feel. This is a metal song. It does not have to be happy or even relatively orthodox. If nothing else, this is a black metal song in the sense that they do everything in an unorthodox fashion deliberately. Learn your music. First Internet rant in months, that felt great
No need to generalize their music style. They are just being distinctively 'Polyphia'. Also a fan from Taiwan here. \m/
Having listened to Light hundreds of times casually doing schoolwork, I get goosebumps so many times during this song. I Don't even usually like remixes but the way they did this is so brilliant.
I always thought Light was the "light version of this song, I mean they're almost identical but Light doesn't have the same ending
This Video perfectly describes how you FEEL you look to others when listening to music and slightly bopping your head.

Matpat got them moves🔥
Kinda fruity, but I like the song and the editing. They're the first "metal" boy band I've seen. If Polyphia sees this, don't get too offended, you guys know what you're doing.
They're playing Instrumental Rock now (heavily influenced by pop and current trends, tho). You know there are many guitar-driven genres outside of Metal, right? They haven't been playing Metal/Metalcore since their EP.
Boy bands are made to appeal to teenage girls, and judging by the comment section, there doesn't seem to be many
+Rodrigo Pérez Yeah, I just didn't know how to categorize them. That's why I put metal in quotes.
+atextmessage If this were mainstream, they'd come flocking.

This feels like the song that I can show to my friends to slowly get them to understand the beauty of guitars and actual instruments over sampled tracks. We'll have to wait and see if it goes passed that though....

this video is so AESTHETIC
I'll give the band credid for the music, but wow, this is the most hipster video I've even fucking seen!! LOL
So a good use of color and creativity versus everything being blacked out or black and white is now a "hipster" thing? Huh, nice to know...
Well, look at it: pink and baby blue colors ripped right out of a Megan Trainor video, the shirts and haircuts, some dude with earbuds break-dancing, electronic pop elements, and naming the fucking song out of all things "LIT"! This is PURE 2016 hipster! I'm not saying it's bad, it's just funny how spot on trendy and cheesy it is!
I definitely see your point for sure. I will agree with you about the clothes and naming it "LIT". Those in itself are hipster. Everything else I just see as a creative device. Just about all America music videos are super gloomy in someway. Here I see it as breaking a mold. For example, just about every Asian country use bright colors as an artistic device. Which is exactly what they are doing here.
What fucked up part of America are you watching from where that is the case?!
Kevin Bluhm gloomy is the wrong choice of word. Just the lack of color or vibrant color. Unless you're in the pop scene.
Just saw these guys live with The Contortionist and Between the Buried and Me in Ft Lauderdale. Polyphia was great, had a chance to talk to the lead guitar player afterwards. He came off really friendly, even offered me some advice for my own playing. This song was actually pretty amazing live. Not really a remix/edm fan but this was pretty incredible to see played. The drummer btw looked like he was really enjoying himself.
Talking to tim henson would be dope bro

I'm sure someone spotted this by now but this is a rearrangement of their original song "Light" on the Renaissance album. I feel slow for not noticing sooner but the moment I recognized the opening solo made me very happy. Love both versions, a full mix could be a fun idea. I want more of this from that album, a rearrange of Crush would be so awesome!
Thanks for having me on this project! Video turned out great!!
Can't actually believe that this beautiful piece of music has over 1,000 dislikes it's like modern day classical music in opinion.
2023, 5 million views, i think their virtuosity is irrefutable.
The people that dislike this are the same people that think Taylor Swift makes good music.
@@samhhaincat2703 musical genres are like archetypes and to think of them as good or bad is missing the point, Taylor Swift is the ultimate pop singer/songwriter she's amazing at what she does. And these guys are progrock virtuosos also amazing at what they do. both are accomplished in their field and that's all that really matters. I enjoy listening to both because I like music and if all music, and people, were the same that would be boring.
Matt Pat killed it
Whoever edited this... wow. Amazing job, I’d love to create a music video like this myself someday.
polyphia became the Justin Bieber of progressive metal.
Come on guys! This is just a remix! Tim said years ago that they were giving their music a pop sensibility to make everyone dig it and i think that's a really good choice that has payed off and i'm happy they are having success, he said this while promoting Muse. I don't really find any dramatic differences from their style, come on! The sound is the same and they have always dressed in a pop-swag style, give them a break, the song is groovy, it's funky, it's technical but soulful and it's fucking good!!
Agreed , the mountain dew commercial commemt was pretty funny tho
This day in age? It’s hard to get the average joe who doesn’t care for this stuff to actually stay, listen, and pay attention to this kind of genre and style! My thing has always been that if I can get my parents to like “metal” then I did a good job. Lol

I come back to this and not only do I end up appreciating it a bit more after loving their new sound in the last two albums, I really sit down and pay attention to the video and the editor in me from my time in high school... oh my lawdie. Bryce and Josh, you killed it here. The general flow, cuts and fx in-time with Vinny's dancing interspersed with the band is *mwah*, oh it's a joy to watch. ^-^ One of my favourite parts in the video is at 4:03 when the music crescendos and we cut to Vinny very slightly in the air and touching down in a triumphant pose. Just that little nuance of being in the air *enough* to feel a bit of *WEIGHT* and *IMPACT* as he hits the ground in-time with the band. Beautiful section to put it in too. And hey, even if it wasn't your choices to make the video how you did, I still see that hard work. :)
