HOW DOES SOMEONE EVEN BEGIN WRITING SOMETHING LIKE THIS?!?! Its like someone fell down a flight of stairs with their guitar plugged in and somehow turned it into one of the tastiest riffs of the century
Jake Weber a lot of trial and error
Sometimes you dont write it. Play something with a small idea in mind and elaborate as you go.
theres a little video tim henson uploaded of him writing two parts on piano, one chording and one melody, then playing both parts together on guitar. The piano bit sounds pretty simple and very good, but when he transferred to whole lot to the guitar it turns into the kind of thing we hear here. From there I think they just start embelleshing and taking liberties with the riff until its all wacky and all over the place. Amazing.
@Mike Schwab at 0:18 he starts playing at 0:36 he repeats the whole guitar part that he began with
@Mike Schwab who ever gave riffs a specific duration though?
I am 68. Long time rocker who loves progressive rock and has since 1972. These guys are amazing musicians and amazing musically together. I have never seen anything like this before.
This morning I was listening to some Zappa and it transitioned into Polyphia. I was amazed, as I had been remarking on Zappa’s creativity and skill with a guitar, as well as his unique style. It’s almost as if the music Gods said: “you need to listen to this!”
you almost hit the peak of life. age 69.
too bad you use switches to live your life because the OG would destroy you. js.
I love how they often finish each other's rhythmic statements. Listen to 3:06 - 3:09 The guitar starts the phrase and drums almost finishes the phrase until the guitar comes back in. Think about the technical level to go from a rip to a groove and back so effortlessly while maintaining that tight pocket. Amazing. All of them.
The guitarist is amazing, but nobody talks about the groove of the drummer, it's crazy bruh And the bassist is a groove guy too Amazing work
I noticed them, also I think the guitars can get crowded and sound too busy at points, it's highly technical but I don't know as that always makes for good music.. Still, I am here checking it out anyway, open mind is good..

Everyone talking about Henson and no ones talking about how awesome the drummer is
Xavier Dole both Clays are gods, we all know it. Scottie is too
Right? Clay can get down when it comes to slapping some skins, that's fact
You should check out his solo play though of this song. Its epic
the drums arent exactly hard but the way he plays emulating an electronic beat is unique and (by far) the best Ive seen. And such good taste in the fills, clay is really on point
Joao T are u kidding? Its like the whole song is one big drum fill, his chops are insaaaane
Their outfits had a glow up since this video! They earned it! Though I do think the bass player looks great with short hair. Polyphia has inspired me to learn to play the guitar and improve my bass playing, I've been practicing for months now and have a world class teacher but I'm sure I'll still be years before I'm even close to this level!
I love how in each polyphis song each instrument has their moment to shine and do they ever use that space well 🔥🔥 absolutely flawless
and do they ever us that space well 🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@inkswift there I fixed it shhh lmao grammar nazis out here today
1% of comments: Nice song yea 99% of comments: *joke about vocal*
Should comment how Davie504 just look and play
I don’t know people are making fun of them tbh they’re really good
You're apart of the 99% lol
Those people are just completely ignorant of the massive wealth of progressive metal bands out there with no vocals whatsoever.
You know its a masterpiece when you can hear every single note from every instrument on a small phone speaker
That's just good mixing lol
@@goto228i And composition too! Don't underestimate the space they leave for each other
That’s a taste thing. Some people can’t stand hearing super bright bass, or super bright guitars and drums.
@@goto228i *modern mixing aimed at shitty speakers with no real bass...
Watching this on my cellphone at the moment, why'd you have to call me out like that in front of everyone.
No one: Polyphia Comment section: damn this drummer is so cool
Elena Abad’s solo violin cover of this brought me here. Her rendition of G.O.A.T., is amazing, and I’m glad it’s led me to Polyphia. You folks are absolutely exceptional!
