Setting timing marks
Cool vid on how to set the timing before removing the timing belt. You guys may point out how I have the arrows on the camshaft sprocket facing down instead of up...........the arrows can be facing up or down, does not matter. Thanks for watching!!!!!!

My hubby is doing a water pump replacement on my '01 PT Cruiser. (Lack of money is a real motivator to learn how to DIY.) The thing ended up running out of time when he tested it before he put the motor mounts and stuff back on. He says, "After this, I should be able to do almost anything. Let's get a "vintage" Model A Roadster for our last car and just have fun." I heard him laughing and caught him watching your video. "This cat's cool," he says. So, according to him, it's back to finding TDC and aligning the cam sprockets. "Keep the faith, baby" is what he says. Thanks for making him laugh at a situation that had him coming up with new curse words I've never heard before. Peace.
I hear you. that's why I'm here.
Thank you for explaining it the way you did I am a suspension mechanic and have never had to work with the timing or the actual motor before and I've been stranded for 11 and 1/2 days now trying to figure out how to do the timing so thank you again for explaining it how you did the sockets and everything else was amazing and you just saved me a lot of money and a lot of time so much love from Kansas City Missouri
Glad I can help! Good luck on the job
I just have one question though when you take the old belt off of the actual pulley mine does not turn I'm not sure why but it does not turn and I don't know how to get it lined up the guy that came out here and looked at it told me I had to take both of my valve covers off and loosen up the rockers and that that was the only way to do it but then he busted three of my coil packs and I had to go get new coil packs but I'm still having difficulty with the water pump pulley and getting it to turn so that I'm at top dead center
I did one of those. And I am glad there are techs that these customers can take these types of jobs to. Keep up the good work bro!
You fuc** explained it really good. And im doing this job tomorrow and im not worried about the timing marks after you explaining the timing marks on it im only thinking about taking the rest apart. It's a pain not like any other car's. 👍👍👍on your video.
Part 1 of 30? Good job leek. You inspire me.
Thanks from NZ!
One of your best videos Leek. Appreciate it.
+Mark Anderson Thanks Bro ✊
Crazy😏I just did this same job and it was my 1st timing belt job solo. I posted a video about it on my KZhead but it wasn't in detail. Good shit bro💯
Just something I found out because tdc the arrows will be facing down if facing up the the timming is way off if you do from the bottom instead or down arrows on cam shaft cranks will be facing up but thanks to you I was able to get mine back running ps. To rest dont mark with a sharpie Mark's wiped off on me so great video keep up great work bro with up arrows will turn over and not start
This is helpful, My timing belt broke and I don't have the money to fix it. So I have too. Thanks..!
did you have to remove the tensioner when installing the new belt or did you get it to slide over with tensioner bolted to motor in the lowest position ?
Injoy watching your videos. I done watching the others . You had me at. Hello . Lol
Haha thanks bro!!!!
on point most people get this so confused great job great clarity and understanding for those shade tree mechanics trying to figure out how to be a fucking mechanic again great job
Oh god I did a timing belt on a shit T cruiser about 6 mos agao and never want to do one again. It took me about two hours to get the belt back on perfect. My boy took almost two days to do one. Lol. Good vid man.
YOUR SECOND ONE WILL BE EASIER AND WHEN YOURE ON LIKE YOUR 5TH ITLL BE REAL EASY,
In the process of doing my first one, tried to get the belt back on before leaving for the day but didn't happen. Pain in the ass for sure. Love doing timing belts on hondas and toyotas, not so much on the shitty cruiser
thank you man. good looking out, you probly just saved me 1k I can do this.
I love this FUKING GUY!! Ur awesome.... this is a real mechanic.. ur on key thankx for the help bub!! This guy Knows his shyt and dont pretend to be someone else.
Does it have to be TDC on the compression stroke on these pt cruisers does it matter? About to do my pt cruiser timing belt.
Attempting to do my 05’ Belt broke while my dad was sitting at a stopsign. Do I just align the cams and use the screwdriver method to find top dead center?
STRAIGHT FUCKEN FORWARD !!! LOVE IT THANKS MAN
I did a timing timing on a pt cruise turbo and they a pain
Love your style of spinning the wrenches. The FUCK word is a great adjective. Should be part of kindergarten education. Great educational video. Thank You!
Thank you!
What's the best way to attack this job if the belt is broken?
Thanks for the video. Had a shop do an $1100 timing belt and water pump job, and didn't time it proper. Now I've got to go back in there. They won't accept responsibility. Fuckers!
Damn that sucks! Hope u managed the situation
Use leading edge of tooth on crank on the arrow on the block. Don't worry about the arrow on the crank gear
keep those videos coming you are helping poor people out here man. and those who can do and those who can't get to pay nice men you to get the shit back on the road. lol
I leave the radiator support on. Used extensions to run from the battery would be to get the 3 power steering pump bolts
You had some good tips and tricks for those DIY'er who have this car.
Good vid leek
Your fucking great man. People like you I like having working in the bay next to me
Also can use a compression gauge in number one cylinder or you can hear number one make a noise
Thanks bro
Great video only issue is the marks on the cam shaft gears that say up with the arrows should be facing up when true TDC is reached... Anyhow love the video
The marks on the cam don't matter when #1 piston is up and all valves are closed
not in this case. the only timing marks that matter is the slots that need to face eachother on this engine
Neither one of you are getting it.......he is at TDC on the exhaust stroke, not the compression stroke, when the marks on the cam gear are up that is true TDC on the compression stroke. You can still align the marks down because it's in the same cycle......if he would have turned the crank over 360 the marks would still align with the other marks up......the only time being 180 out matters is when you have a distributor
@@zo6longhorn600 Thanks for explaining that. I noticed the up arrows pointing down but it doesn't matter unless it's for spark timing. 👍
I am doing this job now and did not know about (TDC) before taking everything apart. Bout ready to put back together. Got everything lined up but didn't line up before taking off. An I still good with just lining everything up and going from there? Or with not lining up before taking off mess anything up??
Watch this and you'll know how to fix that up: kzhead.info/sun/oNeapJx_hHOvpqc/bejne.html
Pt cruisers have non interference engines
Good Job =AKA Black Eric O
DON"T FUCK NUTIN UP ! ... I love it.... Thanks
what was the estimate on this job?
if the belt has broken off do you set the timing when you put the new belt on??
You have to find TDC and set the mark on the crank and on the cam gears.
what if the the left arrow is facing down an the right is facing up but the grooves are all lined up is that ok???
As long as the 2 notches on the cams are lined up facing each other and cylinder #1 is at tdc u should be good
thumbs up..
How would you go about setting the timing if the belt broke? I have the TDT set and the line's on the cam gears set is that all I have to do to make sure every thing is right or am I missing a step?
Thank you fucking very much , for this fucking video clip
Thank you soo fucking much man
Fuck yea!
I have 2008 P.T. Cruiser and have had several friends helping. Didn't mark exact timing . Have set all Mark's and still out of time
For one the 2.4 is a non interference engine meaning the valves won't hit the Pistons I've done a few just did a head gasket replacement in less than 4hr and a lady pulled out in front of me total the car so I picked up another one for 500 the young meth head had attempted to replace the t.belt went as far as removing the intake amongst prying the head light out so when I started on it I found the crank pulley bolt Brook off in the crank the crank pulley was destroyed along with t belt sprocket. It took me 4hr to get the bolt out he let it rain on the engine and it was frozen up I dumped transmission fluid in and let it set over night I got freed up put on a new belt valve cover gasket and plugs put the intake manifolds back on it and got it running but wasn't charging so off with the intake and replaced the fussable link that's why it came with 2 batteries replaced missing and bent bolts timing belt covers missing and broken inner finder cover missing repaired head light opening removed greáse from interior now it fires right up oh and someone stole the converter had it replaced but they cut the wie plugins lol even though I've checked the timing marks over and over it wiil only rev to2200 rpm yes the key way is in the crank timing marks are dead on and arrows up but getting a miss alignment codé the cam lowbs where up when I did the valve cover gasket this is a nice looking car with a hundred and twenty thousand miles I'm tired tomorrow I'll pull the cam sprocket bolts and check the key ways and there seems to be some kind of odd movement in the t. belt tensioner there is a tension spring and lug to set which no one seems to mention if these items fail me I'll be checking the cam position sensor and crank position sensor aka pick up coil for you old schoolers. I accept prayers and advice lol ps please dear women don't let your methed up hubby work on your cars
That's A FUCKING good Job, Your FUCKING damn Good, Your FUCKING guy
Good vid. If peeps want clean language they can go watch grandma's knitting sweaters. This is auto repair motorfuckers! Also not sure if was just me but that final scene I kept imaging an afro convention garage full of Caddys and impalas with some funk music kicking in the back.
We're old white folks and we hear you. Hubby wishes his Mom had held onto the '60 Lincoln Continental with the Mercury rear window his Dad got for her used back in '68. Hubby's uncle still has the 1968 Bonneville two door with rag top that he bought new! On it's second full engine rebuild and who knows how many tops. That old so and so. Hubby has the vinyl disc of "One Nation Under A Groove" that he bought on a dare way back. He loves Parliament. He has some seriously weird shit in his record collection.
I like how you fuckin getter done .
Fuck a PT cruiser timing belt. Fuck em. Fuck em. Fuck em.
holee fuck'n f-bombs funny friend flow u spitt'n is dope yo
the video image is too poor, you need to fix it more
It's a bitch just getting out the support bracket that holds the steering pump I'm doing mine I'm going day 3 lmao the thing that I'm tripping one is that I need to remove the other plastic cover to get too the water pump but.. I'm having trouble with the cam gears I have to take those fuckers off to remove the plastic the thing is when I try to put pressure to remove it the gear moves too an timing moves so lmk if you have a trick to removing both with out fucking shit up also it's. An 03 pt gt 2.4 turbo
my belt was changed with gates at one point previous owner.. but they didn't change the water pump fuckers
If I'm wrong please let me know as just stating what was happening with me for 5 day haha
I feel bad for this mechanic because more than likely the person that fucks up will find someway to blame him because of there lack of experience or understanding. See I work in the ghetto where everyone tries to push responsibility on someone else because of there screw ups so it's hard to fix cars for a certain type of people in a certain age group. So they'll blow there timing belt and bend the valves and someone from the ghetto where they did a timing chain in 1970 will say,"have mechanic put new timing belt on"! And Rasfucia will call a local mechanic and say,"how much fo a timsiyn belt"? And we will ask,"whats the year, make, and model"? And she will say,"why yalls axin so many dam questions cuz yall it shouldnt matter". So she will bring it to you bent valves and all and expect you to put a new dam timing belt and when its fucked up cuz damage she did before she really go off on you like its your fault. THE MECHANIC IN THE VIDEO KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT IM SURE!!!99% OF YOU WATCHING THIS VIDEO PROBABLY SHOULDN'T ATTEMPT THIS JOB UNLESS YOU HAVE DONE AT LEAST 5 OTHER CARS BEFORE THIS 2.4 BECAUSE THIS IS NOT A NOVICE REPAIR BUT THAN AGAIN IF YOU'RE AT 130,000 ON ORIGINAL AND IT HASN'T SNAPPED BUT YOU DONT HAVE $800 OR MORE THAN GO AHEAD BECAUSE YA DONT HAVE MUCH TO LOSE ANYWAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BE SURE THAT THE MOTOR IS AT TDC BEFORE YOU SLACK THE BELT BECAUSE IF YOU DONT THAN YOULL BE TAKING A CHANCE AT BENDING VALVES WHEN YOU TURN THE CRANK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS TO A T BECAUSE THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS!!!!!!!!!!!PREPARE THE MOTOR FIRST OR BE SORRY WHEN YOU TIME 180 DEGREES OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AND YES IT WILL START 180 DEGREES OFF BUT IT WILL RUN HOT AND FUCKED UP!!!!TRUST ME A MECHANIC AT WORK DID TIME IT 180 DEGREES OFF AND IT STARTED BUT RAN REAL HOT AND WARPED HEAD!!!!!!YOU'RE PROBABLY ASKING WHY IT WOULD MAKE IT RUN HOT RIGHT??????BECAUSE THE INTAKE WILL BE TIMED TO THE EXHAUST AND SO ON AND SO ON.
I have alot of these. And they all suck
Cool Job.Bad language!!!
Hahahahahahah
I hate working these fucking things
That wasnt true tdc . You had the piston 1 and 4 at tdc but its 180 deg out . Not true tdc on the compression stroke. The cams are supposed to be facing up and the two notches meeting themselves.
I can tell that you're a bookworm and not a hands on tech. I clearly said in the vid that notches don't need to be up. Regardless of what you're trying prove you will still be wrong considering this car was finished the same day I did this video.
You dont know me. I run a shop out of my house . Im full hands on. Im just stating the facts. I didnt fully watch the video but if your gonna tell people stuff at least be correct.
You can pop a belt on in any position. But understanding true engine timing not everyone gets.
When u make a video on this and it goes viral let me know. Good luck knowing it all
OK video. Bad language.
I like the video instructions but very unpleasant to watch with all the profanity. Most people who want to learn something don't want alot of negativity just saying...
Did I come to your channel and tell you what to do?
It's part of being a happy human being... Sorry to tell you this but there's a lot of other channels without profanity, I enjoyed it.
Nah...profanity makes it real. Cause youll be cussing your ass off during and after one of these, too...makes it funny to watch. Good job bro
DO the sound track again and take out the swear words...
