  • Thank you so much for the detailed video, but it was still a horrible nightmare. I was helping a friend that needed it badly. Water pump shaft seal was leaking profusely. We went ahead and changed all of the timing components and cam seals too

  • Good video, nicely paced, very watchable, lots of great tips. I've got a couple of PTs that are due, I should get to them. I did a Neon timing belt a few years ago. Before removing the old belt I match marked the belt and crank & cam pulleys. Then I carefully transferred the marks to the new belt. It gave me confidence putting the new belt on. Between that and checking factory alignment marks, I was sure the timing was good. I made a tool to hold the timing sprockets. It was an aluminum bar with a hole the socket could pass through and two steel pins that worked like a giant spanner wrench on the cam pulley. That held the timing pulleys while loosening/tightening the retaining bolt. It worked pretty well. It's possible to remove the power steering hoses. First suck the fluid down in the reservoir. Then disconnect the return line (back one) and suck a bit more fluid out of the return line. Then you can disconnect the big line (on the front) that goes down to the power steering pump. All with no mess. It's a good time to replace the motor mount during this job. It's mounted in the frame rail and the only way to replace it is pretty much to dig through all the stuff you did to get to the timing belt. Hope you don't mind all my comments. Your video is one of the best I've watched and I saved it for when I get to the PTs. One comment I've seen about PT Cruisers is that "You always have to do this, before you can get to that... but it's not that bad". As a PT owner for 22 years, yeah, that's kinda true, but it's a good car.

  • Hey thanks for the Video. When you say reset the timing. You need to take the Belt off ?? And turn the Gear so it's Alittle bit off set so one is Alittle bit below one another so that when you tighten the belt it can move some I'm not sure How that works. ???? Never done this before and I'm in the middle of trying. 03 pt cruiser I have.

    • You might not need to remove the belt completely. I just took it off the cam gear enough to turn the cam one tooth over. Then I slipped the belt back on.

  • Great video....I just got mines out of the dirt. New battery, JB Welded radiator, cam sensor connectors weren't making a connection, fan electrical connectors were corroded, broken spark plug, now I can't seem to go over 60mph without a jerk...and sometimes a jerk coming from 0mph (takeoff)....What do you think the issue could be?? Causing the car not to go over 60 mph....Please, don't say it's going in lymph mode...

  • Do you have a video of dropping the engine on a pt cruiser by chance? This video was great

    • I wish I did. The deepest engine repair I have for this vehicle is the head gasket.

    • @@ValleyMobileAutomotive . I am going to tackle this very soon so i needed to see how to reach some of those bolts. However, im thinking of pulling the engine to do more stuff anyway since i have a handful of things to do. Looks easy going out the top but i guess thats the biggest pain ever with zero room, so it was recommended going underneath.

      @sfcd4757@sfcd4757Ай бұрын
    • @@sfcd4757 Unfortunately on some vehicles the engine and transmission need to come out together because there's not enough room to separate the engine from the torque converter. I'm not sure about this car but that might be the case.

    • Pull your #1 spark plug. Use a thin screwdriver insert it into the #1 hole and gently rotate your crank shaft and watch the screwdriver go up, once you see it go all the way up your mark on the crank should be lined up. He explains everything else in the video.

  • Can someone explain to me the whole point behind taking the entire head off the engine for doing the timing belt and water pump. I just dont understand why you cant just do those parts

    @LR6092@LR6092Күн бұрын
    • The head does not need to come off to do the timing belt. This car got a new head gasket. The timing components came off for the repair so I made this video out of the larger repair video.
