It's no secret that Skechers has a reputation for copying other brand's designs, Nike arguably being one copied the most. But when the news broke that they'd be making a big push in the football boot market, even signing former Nike athlete Harry Kane to the brand, I don't think anyone expected what their first football boots would look like. Well, we should have known, because it's very clear where the design inspiration came from...
In today's video we compare the Skechers SKX_01 to the boot it blatantly copied, in the now discontinued Nike Phantom GT Elite. We know the features are similar, but how closely do they compare when it comes to fit, feel and ultimately, performance? Is it possible that Skechers actually made the better football boots?

Current gt2 user (ag soleplate). the gt2s are actually a bit stiffer than most boots which I don’t mind, it gives you sense of stability during the match. I found the GX1 boots to be too flexible and not responsive enough, which actually made my legs work harder and I would feel more sore after games. (More flexible soleplate = less spring back or energy return). However I wouldn’t mind something slightly less stiff, and a bit more forgiving, looks like possibly the sketchers model is that. Definitely would be interested to try the sketchers model, unfortunately they aren’t easily available here in Australia though
i used to have gt2s but they broke pretty quickly and i went back to vapor 14s, vapor 14s are definitely my favourite boots ive worn
@@pierrebigfella thanks for your opinion man! I used to wear Mercurial Vapors back in the day but ended up transitioning to Phantoms, starting at the Hypervenom 1 and then 3, and then GTs, because they are similar to Vapor’s but a bit wider and not quite as aggresive which I prefer. Definitely Vapors are top boots though, many pros wear them (for my team inter Barella, Mhikitarian Thurman and Hakan)
We need an AG version 😢
I think the SKX is great because the GT2 is discontinued and it’s a boot that I loved
Damn. Mizuno Morelia lighter than Sketchers
As a consumer, I'm fully supportive of it. Similar to the Mercurial series, small iterative design improvements result in a noticeably better boot each year. Nike shouldn't be upset by sketches doing this as they should be arguing that their GX line is the enhanced version of the GT
The designers of the Razor and SKX are the same Nike engineers that had a lot to do with Nike tech used in a lot of the football boots. You can’t call it copying when they are literally just updating off their own ideas. The designers most likely protected their IP instead of Nike owning the actual copyright or patents. This is common outside of the football world.
Do you have any sources ? Nike has not laid off they’re football boots engineers at all , nor do I see any of the current sketchers football design team have any background working in Nike , all these employees past work history is public domain on indeed on their profiles. None of them worked at Nike some at puma and adidas but no Nike.
The Designers worked FOR Nike. The Design is therefore owned by Nike. They'll have signed long contract to prohibit and prevent what happened.
He said that they were the same designers in the video
What 5 cleats would you recommend for a midfielder/forward
which boots do you think today are most similar in feel to the hypervenom phantom 1s?
the nike phantom was a great pair of cleats however they had a huge problem in my case and many others.. The heel was possibly the worst thing in any cleat I have ever worn, I and others have had a terrible blister on our heels. It NEVER GOT BETTER, I had to beat my heel just to get used to the pair, and even then I couldn't wear them for longer than an hour. Truly a disappointing feeling as it was perfect for me besides the heel counter
I had the same issue with my GTs where they would cut into my heels and cut into my skin. I ended sanding the inside of the heel area and it got much better and no longer hurt me. Great pair of boots despite that though
GT 2018?😂
Probably confused then with the phantom vision
@Soccerreviewsforyou can you bring back the boot awards. I really enjoy those videos especially the 2018 awards. Please consider it.
Id get these if they sold an AG version, but alas I went for the Vapor XV 🤷
You should review the adler cleats
i’m looking for a comfortable boot with my wide footshape , should i get tiempo 10 academy, puma future pro, nb 442 pro, mizuno morelia neo iv, or copa pure 2.3?
The wide fit version of the 442 is likely going to be the best fit for you.
Great video James!
Does anyone have these? How are they?

Let me borrow those yellow t90 lasers big dog👊
YES!
My goodness I love my razors
Well everyone copied adidas world cups
Please. Adidas did not invent the 6 stud leather football boot.
Nah it's cool the razors are a really good boot so it's all forgiven keep it up Skechers
No self respecting person who wants to be taken seriously will wear Skechers.
skechers = expensive knockoffs
everyone copies Nike tbh
Don’t really believe New Balance does.
It’s the same designers. You can’t call it copying when it was their ideas.
Except adidas
