The video is so well made. Informative and with good editing.
You're back with another great review! I thought this channel was dead but luckily it isn't...
“You’re “
@@MrDhandley Thanks mate...
I have own Toyota Landcrusier 120 3.0 Diesel 2005 for almost 5 years now. He has 383000km on clock and is running well. I use Diesel Fuel System Cleaner | Redex in every tank. I used to own Pajero and there was problem with the engine, very common with Pajero. I ask the dealership for Pajero and they said that this problem was not fixed until 2015. I Definitely recommend Toyota Landcrusier 120 3.0 Diesel
👌
I have a similar 1, same year but mine is the 1kz, strong and reliable
Glad this channel is back

Welcome back and nice vídeo, i like Toyota 120 and i looking for one, this vídeo gonna help me a Lot. Thanks
Hello thank you for the video you make! Now can you make a detailed video just like this about 5L-E and 1kz-te the previous generations please ?
Welcome back!
Great description of the potential problems but I think the cracked piston risk is being a little overstated, at least in Australia. The failure rates are very low here and these engines are very popular in the Hilux and Prado and many people do lots of towing in hot weather with these engines. The biggest cause of cracked pistons seems to be over fueling due to worn injectors or bad tunes. Mind you, in Australia you will lose your license on the spot for doing 160km/h and there is only one place you can do 100km/h so high speed driving for long periods doesn’t happen much at all. All up, I wouldn’t let this minor risk put you off the car, just make sure it is not damaged when you get it and replace those injectors probably every 150,000kms.
Let's say between 150.000 and 200.000 injectors should be checked and replaced if needed. Most of the people never check their injectors.
@@The_Touring_Jedi I agree. And they have so much more work to do than the old style mechanical injectors with a traditional style pump.
a bit unrelated, but since when can you only do 100kph? i live near roads where you can do 110
Excelent information 👍👍👍

Hi i have bought Prado 2006 model with 1KD engine manufactured in 2004. i found that my valve cover had cracks and previous owner fixed it with epoxy instead of replacing for new . can you share some information regarding this part, engine is over 500k KM
Please next super video like this about LC200, V8, 1VD-FTV thxxxx
Also 2.2 tdci from Ford had problems with cracked pistons. I had to change all four at once on Transit Custom 2012 after 220ooo km
What do you suggest buying a 2012 Tiguan 2.0 tdi highline or 2012 W204 c220 full option? Which is more comfortable?
Diesel tune recommends tuning the engine to improve fuel consumption so I guess that's out of the window or can I still carry on with that?
My injectors had 320.000 km and where like brand new. Maybe the previous owner did it(bought it with 220.000 km), but I changed them at 320k and sold it at 340k for a 100 serie V8 petrol. Other problems: - Often the turbo leaks oil in this car what can get worse over time - Seats are worn quickly - Engine mounts are vacuum driven and when broken can give an annoing resonance through the car - Wheelbearings are a pain in the *ss to do - Brakepads are worn fast - If the radiatior fails the coolant can mix with the transmission oil which means a new transmission. - Light bulbs of the dash buttons will fail and are quiet expensive (for bulbs) but replaceble with some work Overall loved mine and never had a problem. If there wasn't those annoing diesel emmision taxes etc. I would never get rid of it.
you never had a problem but listed few of them. Is this just theory or reality. I had a 2001 with who knows how many miles in it and run smoothly without complains summer or winter. The only problem I ever had was the automatic transmission (four speed) would get overheated if driven to slowly uphill.
@@gregormenga2166 These are problems i have heard from other owners at Land cruiser club and from Google. Had a problem with vibration on certain speeds. So a lot of searching and differen LC specialists I found it. Almost sold it because it was annoying.
Can you please do a review of the seat leon 2015. Thank you
Ur accent is amazing 🤩
please i need some advices about buying a bmw x6 2008 think you for ansers
can you do video about toyota 2sz-fe engine ?
I cracked my LC120 piston. I had a high performance tune. I was towing on the day, at high speed (120kmh), for 3 hours, on a 40C day. In hindsight there was no other outcome.
I had a 120 for a few years and except cracked pistons and frame rust had all the things described here :D
Frame rust can be prevented. There is a lot good rust protection to be used. I just bought Kline rust protection and finish with Dinitrol 4942 which is used for protection for military vehicles in Europe. Dinitrol 4942 is for the hard offroad use it is special elastic wax basis which stands good against small stones hitting underbody while driving. Anyway it prevents further spread around frame. I think almost every off road SUV have issues with rust after some time. Most of the people when buy new does not protect extra frame and underbody against rust which after some time leads to spread.
They still crack pistons? Already the Land Cruiser HDJ80 with 1HD-T has a tendency to crack pistons. 😂
Somehow another 1KD found in other region prove they very potent. In thailand for example. Maybe its different in material used and have some revision from original design and better ecu progamming
Can you talk about the 5l-e engine
Please do a video on the TLC Prado J150 models!
the common issues are basically the same on the 150 as on this 120, the 1KD engine issues apply as well, an additonal problem source of the 150 can be that active sway bar feature - KDSS
@@differentcarreview-dcr Aha, okay. Thank you for posting these informative videos!
To prevent the injectors from wearing out use a can of diesel injector cleaner every now and then.
Waiting video for G30! 🙏
this is amazing. I'd like to know when you mention hot weather what ambient temperatures are we talking about? I find driving below 140 km/h very uncomfortable so 160 would be ideal given the lack of balance of this land cruiser around those speeds.
Mine has white smoke and knocking at starting only 66,000 miles 05 model?😬
Thanks for this! I'm currently considering buying one to do some camping with my girlfriend around Australia. Also looking at Mitsubishi Pajero. Do you have any advice on those? The 3.2 T Diesel sounds reliable from what I've heard but Toyota definitely has a better reputation.
Pajero 4 needs timing chain guide change. And sometimes air intake cleaning with EGR. Otherwise its very reliable. I think pajero is much better choice than LC 120. It can still stand against LC 150 in some areas. But if i was in Australia.. i will look for Pajero Sport, sadly it isnt avaible in EU.
lol, i'd stay far away from the Pajero, especially if its the gas variant. I have the LC120 with over 200,000 Kms and it doesnt miss a beat. Super reliable and comfortable off road. Parts for the Toyota are also easier to come by than the Mitsubishi.
@@jordanmcgregor8540 200tkm :D There is video with pajero with 1 000 000kms.. LC120 can never make it on one engine
Love my Pajero, 2016 has no dpf from factory, and can easy do under 9l per 100 on the highway
@@jordanmcgregor8540 200k is quite low, even a Lada can last 200k with maintenance no problem. For a 4x4 like these, 500k is OK, and at 750k you can say it might be good.
500k km on my diesel, still going strong
What engine you use?1kz or 1kd?
@@scottmonica1067 1KD-FTV
Not just injectors that cause piston problem. They have a known weak point right up to 2015 in Aus.
Did he said 95hp is more powerful than a 173hp!!!?? Please someone explain?
Engine of my LC 120 ( 1kz ) lasted for 5lac kms
Hi! Thank you for the video, question: is the cracked pistons are for 2004LC120 as well or only 2006 versions? I have as well a 3.0 D4D 120, 2004, with 164,000kms, runs perfectly and made some mods on the suspensions. I am planning to start saving to get new injectors in the future... do you have any reliable link to get genuine injectors? Thank you again for the video :)
Don't wait too long. Change those and you will have another 150k without issue.
Look at Fourby4diesel channel, lot's of videos of Prado 120 and issues with diesel and every weakness this models have.
@@The_Touring_Jedi thank you
the 2004 have a different piston design according to various sources this is a much stronger piston design which is not affected with this particular well known cracking issue But can it crack? Well yes - any piston can crack/get damaged/burnt because of a faulty injector. But the chance that your piston in your 2004 cracks is VERY VERY SMALL (its the same as on other common rail diesel engines which are not known for piston cracks). So don't worry about this issue, just pay attention to the faulty injector symptoms, and to the oil pickup strainer. you can buy genuine injectors directly from Toyota
@@differentcarreview-dcr Thank you for your reply! This made my day :) I will keep paying attention and plan to get new injectors! I really appreciate your content, keep it up! Cheers
this means you can't use this car for what it is meant to do and you can still end up with cracked piston...
Hi, Just bought a 120 with the 173 ps Dieseln engine. Injectors are replaced. Anyhow, we got smoke when accelerating hard (on highway for example). Not if we accelerate normally. Is this a red flag for cracked pistons or injectors or ‚normal‘? THX in advance!
Depend which clour of smok comes out there is 3 . . white smoke blue smoke and black smoke
should i buy a 2002 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER VX or 2007 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER PRADO, they are both diesel engine. which engine lasts longer?🤔🤔
This is why I went for V6. Consumption in city is around 13.5l and on highway 10.5. Anyway parts are pretty cheap in compare to diesel. 215k and runs like charm.plan to keep it next 200k.
The 1GR-FE is popular around the world!
Me too the V6 is so maintenance friendly.
These cars are major in Jamaica.. if you have one you are doing fairly well
these cars are pretty expensive here in Europe as well
@@differentcarreview-dcr I bought V6 15.5k swiss francs for 2005 with 215.000km. Full spec with compass Navigation leather seats. It worths the money. Thr V6 runs around 8sec to 100kmh...it is a beast as they say.
My whole engine went bang because of this problem but even after 7 years and 110 K miles Toyota gave me a complete new engine, injectors, turbo etc for just the fitting cost. Love my old LC now on 175 K miles
You think having a blown engine bcs of engineering failures its nice that they had you pay for the fitting?
@@kloschuessel773 well, the car is worth much more with the brand new engine.
@@radeee87 not by much no and the fitting does cost a lot for an engine. That was my point here
@@kloschuessel773 not by much?? Well much more than the work costs of a simple engine swap. 280k km engine to a brand new makes it atleast here where I live worth so much more. For example a 120 with 400k km is something like €15-17k and 300k km are €20k+. And there is only 100k difference. And yes, I know that a car is more than the engine.
@@radeee87 no it isnt bcs the frame and the rest of the car have more kms on their back Look at prices for cars with swapped engines They arent really worth that much more
HE'S BACK!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D
Just goes to show that every single car on the road will give you some kind of issues. Its a machine, Toyotas not made of some special material that makes them immune to breaking down. Nothing will stop a car from breaking down if the owner is inept.
Do these diesel engines have hidden software that knows when the emissions is being tested and turns off higher pollution? a la vw benz etc
No not the scam like German did. It is older tech in 120 Prado and no issues with something like this.
EGT gauge will tell you. It has to be installed. A EGT gauge and oil catch can are basic preventive mods. Dunno why diesel doesn't come with it 😑. You got those then nothing to worry about.
Thats why you should do research before just buying?but the petrol version of the 120 is great!Mine is over 500k with no problems at all!
500k?? Woow nice to hear that. I just bought V6 with 213k. I have notices some minor oil leak on the left bank, it seems valve cover gasket is giving up. Have you already changed yours?
I see Anthony bench on those pictures 🤔
The earth 🌎 is going to move the right direction 😂😂🤣🤣 LMFAO!!!! Brilliant commentary!!! 👌👌👍👍👍
"Its a great car", but the engines blow up, or has no power, or overheats, or the clutch goes bang...sounds like a pile of shit then.
bro wb post the g11 7 series
I honestly don't know when I will get to that car, but thanks for the comment!

Prado ❤
So whay are the prices of old ones one of higest price holders ?
Because they are so reliable you can give it to your grandson before you die
because its a Toyota and because you can't really find a better built similar off road car with a proper ladder frame like this, these cars are really really well built, but they can have their own issues
Prado 120 in Europe is around 15-20k euros with average of 200.000km. I have bought mine V6 petrol full spec with 213k for 15k. They are expensive but with A-trac system for offroad and ladder frame excellent choice for off road and also long trips. Weakness is that a frame can rust. Mine have some rust but nothing serious. Protecting that frame and rear axle against rust is good investment. If you want power take V6, consumption is an issue but comparing to diesel it take on average 3 liters more. Diesel is around 11.5 liters and petrol is around 13.5. If you don't make over 10-15k per year take petrol, if you drive over 25 k per year buy diesel. Diesel don't like short trips it kills the engine and petrol have no issues. If you go for V6 then models with 5 gear auto after 2005.
The dashboard doesn't Crack anyway, it's was a defective from beginning until 2006, after that they changed the production.
My 2007 210,000k no cracks until 2021 then fell apart
Nah it was very common from 2003 to 2009.
My 2007 have cracks
Do Golf 7
People ruin them by adding 2SO to the Diesel fuel. Yes, two-stroke oil, an obstinate mediaeval superstition unsuited to modern high pressure injectors.
You forgot one engine option: 💪2UZ -FE 💪
and 💪1HD - FTE 💪
1kd diesel inlet manifold clean every 100,000km
where have you been?
nowhere, everywhere, potato fields and the bottom of the bottle
Why take the risk on these Prados Very nice reveiw with facts 👍 Does this issue apply to the new 2.8 engine?
Fourby4diesel check this channel regarding issues with 3.0 and 2.8. Lot's of videos of 120 and weak points. You will learn a lot about 120.
Who make the engines for those cars? In house toyota?
Toyota 100% brand. I have a petrol V6 120 and it's a real beast.
My Mazda CX-5 diesel blew its 100 k engine! Happens a lot I’m reading!?…..
hi can we talk
0-100 km/h-------------Yes
Super review. The 1KD-FTV is just a crap engine. Sorry for this word, but this is my opinion. So in the end you end up spending more than if you had driven a reliable, quiet, lasting petrol engine.
I had to click... "Toyota" and "engine failure" in the same sentence? 😣😣😣
Japanese diesels aren't as reliable as petrols sadly. European diesels are better imo
@@ilyamerzlyakov5540 Only problem these engines have are injectors which are not long life product as any other diesel makers in the World. Let's say between 150k and 200k you should change those injectors. Usually lot's of cars have issues past the mark 200k with injectors it is almost every diesel engine produced since 2000.
@@The_Touring_Jedi problem is denso injectors, bosch injectors can last way longer... And you can have piston crack even with good injectors...
As a 3rz owner who has always envied these engines (diesel being cheaper), I'm glad to know I was lucky to actually get a petrol.
That's why it's better to stay away from Toyota Diesel engines and buy Petrol ones, as Toyota Petrol engines are the ones that made the brand popular for its reliability. I'm in Australia and almost all Toyota 4WD new engines (LC, LC Prado, Hilux, Fortuner) are Diesels, so I purchased a FJ cruiser which has the 4 litre petrol engine. The one produced after 2010 is almost trouble free and will most likely see +500k kms.
LC Prado was sold until 2018 wirh V6 or could be ordered here in Europe. Those engines are stil in production as I recall.
I have V6 120 year 2005 with 5 gear and full spec including compass in the middle and Navigation. I heard they could have issue with headgasket but I also read that models with 4 gear early production until 2004 could have this issue. I should pressure test my system to see ig any leak. Anyway 215k and running like charm.
These cars are extremely expensive in germany .
No they aren't. You can get one for less than 15k
@@ash3rr yes really high milage base model . Land cruisers are holding there value well . LC200 also .
Hold on, let me put on my Burger King paper crown (sorry, “Hungry Jacks” paper crown) in my GX470 (Lexus’ Prado in a Prada ballgown) so I can look down upon the peasants from its lofty 2UZ-FE petrol V8. 395,000km without a single issue. hang on.. ✋🏻👑🤚🏻 ..Ok, I’m ready. Do tell me more about how your engine produces more coal than power.😏
To be honest, Buying a vehicle that never breaks down isn't fun, that's why 1kd engines are loved, because it's fun working on them, opening the hood etc, imagine having a vehicle that never breaks down, there would be nothing to talk about. I Love my 1kd, 450,000km and still going strong
Not true wat u r telling...
What do you know about cars then?
Prado is Land Cruiser in name only. While the Land Cruiser has a twenty five year design life, the same can't be said for the Prado.
The 1HD-T engine at least has its own share of problems in the 80 and 100 series.
@@wopmf4345FxFDxdGaa20 at least the wheels don't fall off.
