Just sharing the usual fuel economy from our 2008 120 Prado. This is very consistent.
Obviously off-road or towing gets worse.
This was a good mix, with quite a few shorter trips to shops etc. 1kd-ftv diesel fuel economy.
Modified vehicle. In peak mechanical condition.
Thanks for sharing such critical info👏🏼👏🏼
Nice !! We haven 120 form 2009 the last one 120 and fully loaded in the back 60l water 180l diesel plus rooftoptent front and rear bull bar and im on 11.1l per 100km I was thinking it was bad but now im happy it ist thanks for this
Just a note about the fuel gauge. When both tanks are full, the green illuminated 90L disappears and the gauge displays FULL (obviously) BUT - the first tank will not read from full to empty, it reads from full to just below half. So once the needle drops just below HALF WAY on the gauge you have then used 90L in the “first tank” - at that point the needle will spring back up to FULL - and the green 90L will appear on the gauge as well. From there the NEXT 90L will read from full all the way down to empty and consequently the low fuel annunciator will illuminate. But my main comment is that if you put in 180L and fill her right up, the first tank of 90L will only read from full to just below halfway on the fuel gauge.
Is this the kz motor or d4d
2004 1KZ-TE stock vehicle with Bridgestone 265 65 AT. Highway driving mainly at 100-105Kph with 4 pass and full boot of luggage. 11.9 lt per 100km tested using the 2 tanks. 1350 -1450km range
Recent 2278 trip on heavily modified 2007 120 series 1kd engine, all highway with some idling averaged 9.6 klms/liter. Modified Auto tranny. I use highway “puncture free” tyres from ASV. $220 each. 265/65R17 , 42 PSI (cold) front, 39 PSI rear. Thin sidewalls gives good comfort, but risk of damage when lower pressure is much higher. Will go back to BFGoodrich KO2’s next time. I carry repair kit plus air compressor anyway. Those Dunlop Grandtrek look good, I like the square shoulder, thinking about going to 70 profile to help off-road more (longer contact patch at 18 PSI for sand).
That’s not a bad price! Best I’ve had in the last six months was at a Metro where they encouraged last night (usually past 9pm) and every early about 5am where they dropped the price 10 cents per litre...now it’s only reduced 5 cents per litre. 129.9 was the cheapest. Now it’s 136.9 . Anyway even after deducting the fuel to get there and back, I could save $20 at 129.9 . Of course, they tend to Jack it up Friday and Saturday, so there is that issue as well. Our old 120 series Prado with the twin 90 litre tanks helps a bit. Still wish I had bigger tanks though!
Yeah it caught me out until I worked out what happens with gauge on second tank from full, I thought I was getting the best fuel economy ever lol, nice one Anthony lol.
Very nice my prado 3.0 230hp 510Nm version needs 12L with series tyres , with MT Tyres 265 70 17 i need 14L
Hi mate, thanks for your videos. My prado 120 2008 automatic according to the dash pc take around 14L to 100K. seems to be high (6.3Km to 1L) .. I have no rooftop, and no extra (except steps) Michelin tires 265/65/17. I got to a mechanic and he don’t know why... any idea? Thanks from far far away.. 🙃
I know it’s a pain and very time consuming, but I fill her right up to the breather hole in the filler neck just to get an extra five plus litres. Late at night (I go after 10pm) there are not many people filling up anyway.
That's around 1 liter off per 100 km from a 2002 Toyota Corolla wagon running on 98 premium (mostly city with some highway).
I have a prado 120 VX 2009 motor 1kz turbo diesel. It takes 80 liters to full up its diesel tank. On longers trips on highway, driving on a based 80 to 100 KM/H it's got a comsumption of 7.5L/100km. Driving on city it is very crazy, a full loaded tank only gives me 400 km range. And shows a comsumption on 15L or more /100km. Its crazy
Less wind resistance will improve fuel economy, but you'll also need to recalibrate the speedo for different tyres to get any meaningful odometer comparison between different tyre sizes. A smaller standard size tyre covers less actual road distance and likely causes the odometer to over read the actual mileage, giving you a false improvement in fuel economy.
Hello. Mine is at 0.8l pr km with rooftent, fully loaded with gear and 285/65r17 is my injectors good then?
Surely if you fit a larger tyre the odometer will be out of calibration and under read the true mileage making it seem like you’ve used more fuel for the distance covered.
Damn, I get 450km per tank on my petrol 120 Prado. I've got a bulbar, winch, awning and roof bars.
I got 9.0 l/100km in my D4D 120 win 6spd manual. Half highway, half around town. Pretty stoked it was a lot worse before I did injectors + map filter, maf sensor. It's pretty stock tho with A/Ts haven't lifted or bigger tyres YET
Usually chip tuning helps, but it should be done by proffesionals.
👍
Sorry If i missed it but is this a manual or an auto? Cheers
Auto Only way to go for reliability
@@Fourby4Diesel are the automatic prado more reliable?
@@carpovma1627 No answer, but I think that manual for offroad is not for every person. Manual transmision if not pulling trailer should be reliable with no issues. Only issue could be clutch depending on driving style but manual transmision from Toyota is reliable and fuel economy is also better. It's a 6 speed transmision.
My 2005 prado 5l diesel lost power and has difficulties to start what can I do?
Check acumulator maybe its old or it needs new one.
Suction control valve on the back of the fuel pump
Is the 5L underpowered?
Hey mate 4sp auto or 5sp auto? I think transmission is a big factor as well

I have a 2006 prado tx PETROL.. 87 tank only gets me 400 km.. Is that NORMAL???... PLEASE ADVISE
Take your Prado to mechanic plug it on Diagnose and it will tell ypu whats wrong. Burning almost 20L/100km is even with trailer at 3.5T way to much.
Prado 2007 no 2002😊
