MalaMala Safari Moments: Episode 203.
- A lioness from the Kambula pride gives birth in front of us!
- The Maxim's male mates with the Island female.
- The Southern Avoca males and the Sand River pride feed on a zebra kill.
- Hippos.
From MalaMala Game Reserve to wherever you are in the world, we'll bring you moments from our daily safaris in one of Africa's most iconic private game reserves. This is essentially a continuation of our 'Rangers in Isolation' series which was filmed during the national Lockdown.
Yesterday morning we found ourselves marveling at the visible movements of unborn lion cubs within their heavily pregnant mother. Our jaws dropped when she actually started giving birth! She carried her first little one away, presumably into a thicket where she would give birth to the rest of the litter.
Rare to see "live," not in images, "newborn" cubs, or even small ones not out of the den yet. She seems to be a Kambula "daughter." Does Mala Mala know how many living cubs the Ndnengas now have with the Kambula?

Great video of capturing the lioness giving birth. I do not think that I seen this type of video anywhere. Unbelievable how tiny the cub. Of course, love the leopards and seeing hippo pod. Hats off to feisty cub on the kill.

Same thing in human. I remember volunteering in the ER at a local hospital more than 10 years ago. This Hispanic lady came in for a checkup and while they were giving her measures of vital signs. She starts to moan and a few seconds later the baby came out right in the triage room. Doctors and nurses were all so shock. They ran all over to grab things in confusion. They finally managed to get people from delivery department to come.

Lioness what an absolute badass. Gives birth no fuss at all and then just promptly carries on with her day. What an absolute Boss. Those leopards were both stunning. I'm not surprised the male was a bit hesitant as it just ends each time with a slap to the face. That is one brave lion cub .

That was amazing! Her belly was so big, so when only one surfaced and the cub was SO tiny I was like "That's it??" Then I read that was the 1st cub and she gave birth to the rest somewhere else.

Male leopard- this girl won't leave me alone. The two male lions hugging the dinner, but that young cub really has some ⚽️🏀, I think the fathers are impressed by his spunk.

The two lions were acting like it was their kill. I bet the ladies were the ones that brought home the bacon! And it’s always exciting to see cubs being born.
All the prey on their territory belongs to them.
Hunting is mainly the lionesses' duty, male lions is to protect. One tour guide explained it perfectly, "I'll feed you in return for your protection and leadership". Hunting is like cooking and serving.
They have different duties and priorities. Do you act like this with humans too? In a traditional relationship where men are one that bring home money, women act like it is their money! Unacceptable.
@@HenryDube72 I can promise u males can and do hunt. They can take down a cape buffalo alone.
@@lennarthagen3638 they can and they do but the hunting is mainly reserved for the lionesses unless it's bigger prey.

5:29 It's pretty cool to see this fight. The lioness cub is not giving up and she is hungry, even though it's the lions turn to eat. I haven't seen a lioness stand their ground to a big maned lion! And you can see that the cub is gripping onto his neck and biting, that's a sign she is trying to hurt him and not play. Such a brave cub!

Male leopards are so rarely seen in the wild, this was a great find! Magnificent looking cat too. They have a growl much more intimidating than I recall, though it also sounds a bit like a jet ski trying to start, but that isn't quite turning over.
Incredible footage MalaMala, thank you so much. The Lioness giving birth was a first for me and was truly amazed at how small the little cub was, have never seen a new born like that. How blessed we are.... A delight to see Maxims and the Island female mating, her neck must get quite sore at times. Looking forward to seeing some new little cubs... Beautiful visuals of the Southern Avocas and was also amazed at how the feisty young cub did not give up on taking his share of the fallen Zebra. You go little one!! Fantastic footage of all your amazing animals. You'd have had great stills from each of these clips. The proud lioness giving birth and carrying her first cub is pure gold. How lucky you all were to witness that. That male leopard was a lazy bugger. He had an old man's chin wattle too! Haha. Last mounting he jumped for his life so the female couldn't slap him. I'm surprised that two alpha lions are so calm together over that kill. Brothers? The cub fighting back was a very brave kid.

Exactly what I’ve always wanted to witness, the birth of a lion cub, out in the bush. Not as I envisioned, I assumed they stayed inside the thickets, knowing they were about to deliver, but it’s close enough to what I imagined. Thanks for sharing
Someone mentioned that her labor was farther along than she thought and couldn’t make it back to her ‘birthing area’ she picked out. So she just decided to have that one there and then head off to her where she’ll have the rest and they’ll be sheltered. Which is great for us since now we all saw something that normally is not viewable.

I like that tough cub who fears starvation more than Southern Avoca. The Leopard says his issue is not Laziness, its Privacy.😜 I recently saw footage of a pregnant Kalambula fighting her sister, I wonder if this is the same Mama. She expertly scooped up her tiny cub and confidently walked away, not your everyday sighting.

Why do the leopards get aggressive when they're trying to mate?
Because when the male ejaculates it's an intense feeling and just like humans will curl their toes or clench their jaws, the male leopard does the equivalent of that. The female does it for similar reasons
