Uganda Airlines has reveled that it’s experiencing a pilot shortage, leading to frequency reductions on several routes.
While emphasizing adherence to mandatory pilot rest hours, the airline acknowledges the operational impact and is actively seeking solutions domestically and internationally.
The airline also refutes recent media reports alleging disregard for crew rest hours.
The airlines’ cheif executive officer Jennifer Bamuturaki reveled this in an exclusive interview with UBC’s Samuel Ssenono.

  • Please the Government of Uganda. Some of us Ugandans have dreams of becoming pilots most especially high school students. Why don't you give us scholarships so that we can fight the shortage

  • Most pilots retire at 50-60 which is ok considering work load and health regulations, you need to offer good salaries and perks to recruit more pilots rather than extending the retirement age, it doesn't make sense, health and safety is more important.

  • Some of Uganda Airlines problems are self-made e.g poor public relations and passenger treatment, not to mention corruption. Then they cry that they aren't making profits. The Airline needs to get its house in order quickly.

    • Uganda Airlines is heading for bankruptcy. Their business model is unsustainable. Next time you book your ticket with them remember you can lose all you money.

    • It is quit unheard of the government offering scholarships for flight training. But one easy and very cheap way is through the military first then to the civilian world. It's cheap infact almost free

    • But it’s the discussion happening world over. USA lawmakers last year approved a bill that will increase the pilot’s retirement age.

    • @@ubctvugandaYah it is being discussed in the United States but the Pilot Unions in the United States are not approving . So it's still in a balance and it's a temporary solution. The real problem wud have not yet been tackled.

  • I really don't see the shortage these people are talking about. 😂. They only operate a fleet of six air crafts . The real pilot shortage is in the United States. And Uganda Airlines will have to put up avery decent salary and compensation in order to attract the international pilots . Period.
