It wasn't until Spain finished that I realized I had been completely transfixed by their routine. Everything from costuming, to choreo, to the vivid neons in their ribbons just made them absolutely enthralling to watch. All of these ladies were incredible, no doubt, but Spain blew me away.

@@amm6569 Nah. The Russian had a better and more difficult second routine. Russia deserved the gold. Spain was meh. Yawn. Even Italy and Ukraine (with mistakes) were much more exciting to watch than Spain

@@patem7379 I don´t think so, their 2 hoops 3 clubs wasn´t that difficult, was amazingly choreographed but not at the level of russia exercise, in their 5 ribbons of course Spain was superior by their performance, maybe the difference between the total should be shorter

I agree!!! Their music, the choreography, movement across the mat, it was so artistic! Their routine told a story as well, along with the music, and definitely pulled my emotions!

The Olympic games in Rio were magic! The arena is huge; the routines, splendid; the crowd was amazing, supporting the ladies as I've never seen in previous Olympic games. Great times!

I think it may be the colors and the theme that they have. I feel like the color of the ribbons would have an affect in how smooth it looks.
Its because russia was overscored lol. They kept making mistakes and even dropped a ribbon, but its not really a surprise since they always are overscored

At least the Israelis smiled at the end! The Spanish team really looked like they were enjoying themselves - and it makes such a difference to the audience watching. The Italian ribbons was just beautiful.

My favorite sports in the Olympics have always been gymnastics, diving and swimming but always gymnastics first. I always thought rhythmic gymnastics was a watered down version of real gymnastics for athletes who couldn’t get to the higher elite tiers but now I see I was incorrect. In all fairness though they don’t do much for themselves as a sport as far as PR goes. People either don’t realize it exists or know very little about the sport. Why aren’t these amazing athletes talked about much or get much advertisement if at all? I just happened to come across this video and I’m blown away. This looks beautiful and extremely difficult. It’s enchanting and lovely to watch. I can’t imagine how hard getting all of that down to perfection would be. I get tangled up just trying to use a roll of scotch tape.

This is so mesmerizing. I can’t take my eyes off this. The longer I watch this, the more the ribbons look like animation, which is really neat. It seems almost magical
Check out Richard McDonald. He creates gorgeous artwork inspired by rhythmic gymnastics. Some are like 20 foot high statues of a gymnast mid leap with ribbon or ball. Gorgeous stuff.
Russia’s performance in Hoops and Clubs is out of this world! Very complex routine!

It just feels like Spain hat the most technical difficulty and Italy hat the most artistic beauty and also impressed me the most.

I really think judges wanted Russia to win pretty bad, I accept Russia's second routine was far better than any other team but Spain deserve more than 17.9 for their 2nd routine, just because they went first to perform, judges were more stingy with their scores, they definitely deserved at least between 18.2-18.4

Russia’s 3+2 routines are always the most interesting and amazing to watch! It was the same in the 2012 Olympics. Their 5 Ribbons routine can be easily removed from history (especially those awful leotards), but their 2 hoops + 6 clubs routine is amazing!

I love this sport so much! I am a little confused, however, at why the commentators thought Ukraine's leotards looked "more like costumes than competition attire". To me they looked more athletic than the Russian's ribbon outfits, for instance, is there something I'm missing? I was a figure skater, where we have deductions for "illusion of excessive nudity"...
I’m a competitive dancer and I’m equally confused as well especially with the scoring. I thought it was unfair to say the least
Maybe not enough skin was showing? After norways volleyball scandal this wouldn't surprise me...
I do not like the outfit neither (the purple one) but I did not know it actually cost the team that much.

Russia in 3 clubs - 2 hoops was very complex and difficult. They really deserve gold
Russia made several mistakes in there 5 ribbon routine…. I know they came back 100% stronger and smashed it with their clubs and Hoop routine…BUT Spain and Bulgaria didn’t make any mistake…. In both of their routines/ Me personally I thought Russia deserved the Silver Medal not the gold medal. Which makes me assume they could’ve given Yana the gold medal and not to Margarita…. Why so forgiving to the Russian team in the group all round and not Yana in the individual event….I mean it just doesn’t make sense! Plus she only made one mistake instead of several. I don’t want the excuse of because of the difficulty! Yana had more difficulty in her hoop, ball, club and ribbon routine then Margarita’s

Russia’s performance is so complex, they really deserve the gold medal. They’re not afraid to try those very difficult combinations. I felt like I was on the edge of my seat while watching their routine.

I’ve never seen this sport before and coming from an unbiased point (I usually root for USA or Mexico or Guatemala), I think Italy and Russia were just spectacular.
