wait...they can't touch the bottom of the pool? so they have to float the entire time wow! so much more respect
Impressive isn't it?
Sometimes they have to hold their breath for many minutes as well.
If more people knew that the swimmers can never touch the bottom of the pool, they would respect the sport more, especially when they toss their team members up in the air and spring out of the water upside down! It is amazing, the strength involved!
Swimmers and water polo players also cannot touch the bottom
You don’t float u scull rly hard it hurts
I dont even care who wins tbh. just the fact that they have to perform a 4 minute acrobatic/dance routine without touching the bottom of the pool is a gold medal in itself!
Dancing is not a sport even if it does take physical effort. This is not impressive in the context of the Olympics. Winning a gold medal in dancing makes a nonsense of the entire institution of the Olympics.
@@EC2019 its artistic swimming. It is impressive and it’s more than just “dancing”. I challange you to “dance” under water for 4 minutes and you’ll quickly realize how much skill it actually requires. If you don’t like it, do not watch it.
@@EC2019 its literally gymnastics and swimming mixed together. are neither of those sports?
@@EC2019 The literal definition of a sport is an activity which requires physical exertion and skill. The entirety of this sport is incredibly impressive. It is the combination of swimming and gymnastics, which are both Olympic sports. The synchronization and work those ladies put into this sport are as equal as anyone else. It does not make a “nonsense” of the institution and the standards for this sport are very high. I’d respect your opinion if you did not like the sport but disrespecting the sport, the institution which chooses to set a stage for this sport and the people who participate and are dedicated to this sport is making nonsense of yourself.
@@EC2019 kindly look into the definition of a "sport" 🫶
Egypt did Amazing I don’t know why the person talking has to be so rude
I know right!
Important to remember a lot of these commentators tend to be eccentrics and enthusiasts, so they might say things that are odd or unusual from time to time. Only becuase they are very passionate fans the sport with many different critiques that come with experience.
Because there were mistakes. It will be impossible for us normal folks to know them just by looking at the event once or twice. But she was also saying to the audience that everything that they were doing is very difficult.
I think she’s jealous because they had the best figures and outfits 🤭
I think there should be a split screen for above and underwater running simultaneously because the underwater visuals are amazing.
El Mahry. Absolutely!

This sport is soo underrated
This sport is sasifiing, creative and fun actually.
Because its the hardest sport
SISTARNCTWJSN Lovers it’s not, every sport is hard in its own way
SISTARNCTWJSN Lovers No it’s not?
Poppin’ bruh it’s the hardest sport
When I met the USA Women's team, I asked them " What does it feel like when you are upside down under the water moving around"? They said " For people who want to know what the closest feeling to upside down underwater Arobatics, it is like trying to hold your breathe while running".
Just the thought of that makes me feel out of breath.
This just opened my eyes
Wow 🤯
Oh my gosh
As a track runner, that sounds terrifying!
To be completely honest I think this is one of the hardest sport
If not the hardest sport
Also pole vault
@Andrew Henrickson so swimming is a sport but not that , why?
@Andrew Henrickson Well then get your big boy pen and write a letter to send to the Olympics to state your thoughts!
@Andrew Henrickson its required strength, endurance, stamina so its sports
The lady was Such a hater on Egypt
Yeah I completely agree. She praised Australia and commented on every move they did. Unlike Egypt she was silent and pointed out their falters.
And then one of them saying: "puts them on first place, take a screenshot of that." Totally unnecessary. As to say that is the only time you will see them in first place.
I agree. She only wanted to point out the failures of them rather than all the good things. I thought they were amazing
She hated on the japanese too smh
Well yea she praised Australia cause she even says she is from Australia and she mad that egypt surpassed in a competition like it was said
I’m sorry but the commentators are very rude to these amazing, hardworking athletes. It’s just not their place.
I totally agree! These young athletes are amazing and they work so hard for years before the Olympics, etc, I'm sure their young feelings get hurt over and over by overzealous commentators who think they are experts at all sports and the world wants to hear their opinion. WRONG! I would love these major competitions without any rude commentators during the sport and minimal opinions after. Let the medals and other athletes speak. Glad to see others feel the same.
you are so right, I do synchro and it is harder than you can ever imagine!
I like the Australian. But the one that said she'd rather have them just start, and that the one Japanese girl always cries, etc, needs to be fired
@@julesmisty exactly. One of the commentators said one team looked totally exhausted after that ( to say ghetto were not strong ) She should try and do it. They only want the Russians to take the gold .
An dem ca even do half the things , but a fine fault!!! Kmt
Fun fact: they can also hear the music underwater but the speakers underwater are specifically designed to reverberate sound in the water. Outside of water, the music sounds warbled but underwater, it’s crystal clear and you can hear the music perfectly I swam competitively on a club team that shared the Olympic sized pool with a club synchronized swimming team….so the pool had those underwater speakers. My coach used to play music that we could listen to during swim practice. It was awesome
now that’s a wholesome fact. thank you mate :)

Being Brazilian, watching all the cultural references really hit home. I loved all of the performances but Brazil and Russia's were my favorite. I wanted to hit that announcer when she was commenting on Egypt's performance. They did so well .
Спасибо большое!
Same!!!! Took the words out of my mouth!!!
and they were sooo young. such a huge achievement
I can’t help but think about some of these girls being on their periods. This is just crazy and I give them lots of respect for everything involving this event and their hard work!
It's possible to postpone it nowdays
They can use medications to stop their period
There are so many options this day and time. If they wear a tampon, cup. They are probably, like gymnasts and don't have there period because they keep their body slim.
Anitra Duke being slim doesn’t stop your period, being anemic or underweight or just old malnutrioned can stop it. If you are skinny but healthy like these athletes, you should have a period. This is because if your body isn’t getting the nutrients or food that it needs, it will stop unnecessary processes to save energy such as the menstrual cycle or hair and nail growth. But these girls are extremely healthy, so they shouldn’t have problems like that.
Michelle Irigoyen thanks! We use tampons with no problem. I’ve seen very young girls quit the sport if they cannot figure out how to use a tampon, though. It’s very sad, but elite swimmers don’t even think about their periods.

Absolute respect to these athletes. Holding your breath that long, dance , smile , do flips under the water is phenomenal. The synchronization is simply incredible.
Did the loud commentator just say " watch the girl on the right, she always cries.." At 1:03:58? That's just plain rude and unnecessary 🙄🤦
Yeah, that’s pretty annoying that she said that. 😑🤦🏽♀️
She said if you want to know if it went well, watch the girl on the right, she always cries. Personally, I think it's just kind of a hilarious observation that the girl on the right happy-cries. It would be absolutely horrible if she pointed out someone crying when it went badly. I hate it when the cameras chase someone who's devastated to the point where they can't control it, that is just cruel.
Aww.. can’t offend anyone !!!! Don’t wanna hurt someone’s feelings!! 🙄🤨

I think Egypt did really well. Wish the commentators had been more complimentary but they certainly had plenty of great things to say about Australia.
It’s like they were ready to hate on Egypt. I don’t know what beef they have, but the team did a great job.
One time Australia took to long to set up the flip the commentators said nothing about that bit. when Egypt did it they mentioned it

Can the commentator just shut up, the sport speaks for itself, we have eyes, we can see this is amazing, you don’t need to tell us, and you most certainly don’t need to be so rude.
Ani Lahser most commentators are like that for artistic sports and it’s really annoying
@@moonlight_oats but this one made lots of rude comments...it's sad to watch
Ani Lahser some people are blind ;)
TheMontrealGirl while that is a valid point, The commentator in this video was making comments that were just rude and I don’t think much of what they said would have been to enjoyable for a blind individual either, they clearly weren’t trying to be all that helpful to those who can’t see, they sounded stuck up and pretentious, thinking this was about them, that the world wanted to here their opinions as apposed to just watch or listen to what is happening. I’m not saying we should get rid of commentators, I’m saying we should only hire the ones who will give helpful info about what the performers are doing, and keep their mouths shut about how “they wish that they would just hurry up and start the routine” very good point to bring up though :)
Its always normal that the announcer or commenatator will speak for it it is his/her job why reporting this coverage if they will not make any sounds its not a church nor a sacred plce let have fun in watching it and appreciate talents of the participants
Brazil and Egypt performances were so cute I loved them.
Such a shame, this sport does not receive the recognition it deserves here in the UK.

Yes they were so annoying & rude!
@elizabethitota - Someone just above this comment noted that the Brits always sound like they're better than you. Amen. And the Aussies always sound even more superior than that because they're not British.
“Egypt are not ranked as one of the best teams in the world” so why are they in the olympics???? Like, come on
she was salty that a team she wanted didn't get in
cause they form africa. so they cant qualification
Usually there’s Continental championship qualifications to the Olympic Games. With that said, Egypt is essentially the best synchro team in all of Africa so they’re usually participating in the games
Jamaica had a bobsled team.
Do You have a problem !?
The sheer difficulty of this sport is mind-blowing. Swimming in itself is difficult. Doing that whilst keeping afloat and generating force to propel teammates out of water is insane and for the entirety of about 4mins...that's breathtaking. Agility, skill, stamina, elegance, and don't forget as ladies they could be on their period. My hats off to them. Really underrated sport.
@@MM_FarmAndExotics you do know that some women suffer from severe cramps right?
@@MM_FarmAndExotics Clearly you don’t have endometriosis, or throw up because of your period, or have migraines because of your period, or have your legs go numb because of that endometriosis, etc.. there is definitely something to be said for a person who does this on their period. Just because YOUR symptoms aren’t that severe doesn’t mean other people’s aren’t. Your experience of a period is not the same as the other several billion folks on this earth that menstruate, believe it or not.
it truly is remarkable how they manage to do all of that
even crazier - they propel their teammates out of the water while they're not breathing, and they can't even take a breath immediately after because they still have to get ready for new formations while they're under the water. honestly inhuman and really, really impressive
Do Men synchro exist? They dont have period
I don’t care that the Japanese girls cried. Shows how hard they work and how happy they are that their work paid off
If I were to get just in the finals of an olympic event I would cry like a newborn. Let alone winning a medal. I would even cry if I worked as a cook for the athletes.
@@idraote I love your honesty man.

Just imagine the amount of glitter in that pool though...
Jin_ 123 hi
Hehe, waterproof?
Yeah, right?
BAHAHAHAH
its waterproof makeup and the costumes wouldn't be that tacky. so the answer is no glitter
Why they were so critical of the Egypt team while they were congratulating Australia for coming in second ..hmm
Even as an Australian I can hear the bias. I almost thought this channel was an official Australian Olympic channel
These commentators sound like spoilt high schoolers whose daddy’s didn’t buy them the latest Mercedes for their sweet 16. Totally unprofessional and extremely inappropriate of them to use their power of the mic to project their self loathing insecurities on to incredibly hard working athletes who are more than well deserving of their titles within the Olympics.
Honestly it's saddening and a shame

people in 2020: i can't wear a mask, it makes it too hard to breathe artistic swim teams:
exactlyyyyyyyyyyyy
THANK YOU
Now look closer: do you see any swimmers with their mouths covered? I don’t. So what’s your point?
@@ritabarcar ok, just look: these swimmers have to hold their breath for minutes underwater. their heads are completely submerged; there’s no way to get air. that’s literally the equivalent of having your face completely covered. COMPLETELY COVERED. now, compare this to wearing a mask: a mask has open areas where air can come in, and you can breathe easily. that’s not anywhere near being completely covered. edit: whoops i didn't mean entire minutes. it's around 10-20 seconds. but even then that's quite a long time to hold your breath while kicking around whilst also being upside down.
@@audreyli9000, now YOU look closer, but this time with a TIMER! So, what’s the longest period of time they have their heads completely submerged? And what is it that they do with their mouths the very first second they rise their faces above the water line? That’s right, they exhale! And if you pay attention, they also take a deep breath at the very last second before they submerge. I mean, I don’t really claim you’ll get the point now, but their faces show it quite obviously, again, if you pay attention. And I seriously doubt you can do any of those movements with a muzzle on. But hey, if you’re so content with a mandatory muzzle on your face, since you’re advocating for it that hard, then I guess so be it.
such an underrated sport and so so so much respect for these athletes
Incredible display of athleticism! This video showcased the sheer skill and speed of the swimmers. The competition was fierce, and every stroke was executed with precision.

Trust me. And water has so much resistance too. The whole thing just looks exhausting.
Why, Ling Ling, I'm sure you'd be able to do it too. While practicing, of course
i trained artistic swimming for about 2 years, it's incredibly difficult sport. first off, you have to swim like a professional and you have to be fast. and those acrobatics, it takes time, and i mean _time_ to learn each one of them, they have to be perfectly executed. then choreography - everybody has to be synchronised and well-trained. it is one of the most difficult sports i've seen, that's why i admire it so much. these athletes deserve more recognition and respect!

I can't even dance on land imagine having to dance underwater lmao
😂
I give these ladies props for all their hard work and effort that goes into these amazing routines. They've all got to synchronize their moves along with the music. Not being able to touch the bottom of the pool and having to scull to keep themselves afloat. Imagine being upside down for up to a minute and kicking your feet up in the air. I'm out of breath just thinking about it. Lol. Great job ladies!
If this is the standard for 2016 I can't imagine what's coming in 2020
corona
this didnt age well...
*2021 😔
Coronavirus sis
Nothing
Love and respect to these ladies. They make this look so effortless, but def probably the hardest sport ever.
The girls from Egypt really look beautiful and I love their performances well done girls🇪🇬👭❤️
“...And places them in first, take a screen cap of that.” REALLY? WAS THAT REALLY NECESSARY?
This looks like the most difficult sport I have ever seen! Not only do they have to do difficult, strenuous and fast past movements and lifts in synchronisation they have to do it all while swimming, staying afloat, moving quickly in the water and with a smile on their face 😵 mad respect
Imagine getting a cramp during one of these routines😬😬
i train this and yes, that happens really often
you ignore it and hope your leg doesnt fall off greeting from a former syn. swimmer lol
Betta load up on that potassium... Side note, bananas are going extinct 😢
as a person who has breathing problems, watching this video, i feel like dying af😭😅👌
Simple but surprising but amazing that u cannot found in one stroke... In every stroke in life there is something amazing in life, things it feel better than before that we can felt comfortable & smile for evryone else.... Feeling happy in life but seriously !!! no money
The lead commentator is so annoying.
2012 was even worst 🤦
Exactly
El Mahry. Ikr
El Mahry. All she’s doing is complaining🙄
I don't want to hear her vioce, but i have to hear the music
“I prefer they just walk out and start” Did I ask?
выступление команды РФ , 8 ангелов, - сравнимо с появлением новой звезды на небосклоне - КОСМОС !!!, Браво!
This took, "Mom, look at me in the pool!" to a whole new level!
This comment made me so happy on a down day
Just came from watching a video on what it really takes to do synchronized swimming and I have so much more respect, but I also flinch way more knowing these beautiful swimmers probably have had multiple concussions in their lifetime.
The Egyptian girls got lovely, toned skin. I love being African when I see such displays
Are you joking. I have the same thought as you. Am I insane or what ur brilliant Olivia my aunt's name
And their swimsuits were gorgeous as well
Same I am from south Africa
Time?
@@mashupmusic2252 they’re literally the first performance, did you watch the video?
Каждый раз, когда я хочу гордиться своей страной, я просто включаю наших синхронисток. ❤
