About this video:
Out of all the extreme big wave locations Teahupo'o in Tahiti is probably the most feared. With only a 25 year history Teahupo'o creates the fastest, thickest, biggest barrels on the planet.
You need to be good to surf big Teahupo'o and even then your going to pay a price.

  • At the age of around 10, my parents and I switched from the south coast of france to Hossegor (south west) for our summer vacations. There i learn to surf (I'm not very good at it but I enjoy it a lot). Being a place that holds one of the surfworld tour event, there's a lot of surf culture there. I remember that in a surf bar (the rockfood), there was this giant picture of a wave that I just couldn't comprehend at the time. It was teahuppoo, its still one of the first answer on google image where you see a few surfer on the foreground and then wave in a circular shape wich sucks the water in the background. To this day I just cannot understand the people who ride these wave, I would be terrified just watching from a boat on a safe zone. Kudos for the vieo it was awesome

    • Totally!. I'm pretty sure the surfer is a chopes local and I can't help but wonder if any words were said once they both were spit outta that barrel, like when he looks back at the bodyboarder. I would hope the bodyboarder at least expressed his apology since the surfer was inside but Ya know they both made it and I would hope that they were just stoked on that!.

  • Awesome video, perfect music too. I don't know much if anything about surfing, but I have experienced a Wipeout myself, itty bitty tiny compared what these guys are experiencing. On vacation in Surfers Paradise I got to try surfing, gave up getting on the board and ended up doing body surfing. I was perhaps 100m from the beach when I suddenly stepped on a sandbank. Standing with water just below my waist, I turned towards the beach, looking for my friend. I suddenly noticed the water being sucked away, down to my ankles. I turned around and saw a wave towering over me. It smashed me into the sandbank and rolled me probably 50m towards the beach. Tumbling round and around. I was blind by the water, flailing my arms like mad in full panic, thinking I was about to drown. A man came to my Rescue and literary lifted me up of the water, it was only like 60cm deep. The weight of that tiny wave was unbelievable. I was thrown around like a ragdoll,. My chest hurt like hell and I had lots of tiny cuts and scratches. I can't even imagine what these guys "feel".

  • 20+ years after the first ever tow at Teahupo'o (Laird) -- on a wave that we could never have been imagined, let alone surfed -- we're paddling it. we're hooting it. No more tears. Humans smash barriers
