TERROR VAULT | Part 2 Mad Moments & Wipeouts
a Tim Bonython Short
I have spent a good part of my life filming this freak of nature and i have to say its one of most intense, most dangerous waves on the planet.
The Right in South Western Australia picks up monster swells that pound that part of the coastline, especially from April till October. The wave works on a shallow piece of reef about 1 kilometre off the coast. When the waves hit from the right direction, they create huge barrels that pour over and if you become victim, the wave will take you down deep. Deep enough to blow your ears out like so many of the surfers that have been brave enough to take it on.
The Right is darn right WRONG!

  • Having surfed for over 50 years.... and grown up on WA surf, this video had me feeling physically sick. Seeing half a dozen successful rides and watching those guys go over the falls onto a dry suck out? Seriously, how no one died is beyond me. As stated below, some waves are not meant to be ridden, just admired. Gutsy stuff guys, glad you all made it.

  • I've seen all the other big wave videos, but these have to be the most freaky, frightening waves I've ever seen. The waves were so heavy that the face of the waves became distorted and buckled under it's own sheer weight with a lip forming well below the actual top of the wave and sometimes a second lip below that. Just unbelievable!!! Phenomenal photography and total awe for the surfers that had the conditioning, composure, and confidence in their abilities to attempt to surf those waves. Much appreciation to both the surfers and producers of this video for the opportunity to at least experience vicariously what big wave surfing must be like. It must be the thrill of a lifetime.

    • shallow reef pushes more water up into the lip so there's less of a face, which is why the lip drops like that. freaky to watch

There must be some incredible stories to tell - like what happened to the jetski that lost it's driver.. - and what is it like underneath that wave once you have wiped out.. ? And what does it feel like to be one of the few riders that have actually successfully ridden a wave to the very end.. would love to see their reaction and comment...

I got hit pretty bad when i was a kid and never been back and never will but whenever i got a chance i will sit there all day and tape and take photos as it is amazing how powerful they are. No one would realise till they are out in it. People who surf these and get smashed it is amazing how much the body can cope with. Thank you for the video's.

  • God Bless you all. I’m obsessed with surfing from a past life. As a kid wanted to be a marine biologist. Ended up being a nurse and a psychic medium. Not but choice by date. But I’m very much connected to the water. So I watch allot of surfers and pray to the ocean spirits for allot of you. You’d be surprised I’m Latina and I know a few awesome surfers by name. I watch allot of competitions and well my mom is from Nazare. Might I say more?! Makes allot of sense. These waves are too fast 💨 looks like a reef banger. Respect ✊🏽 Careful and May Poseidon himself Carry you fowards, back to shore. You all are inspiring and amazing. Know that !

Special on all levels. Go hard and live with the best memorys on the planet, just as great as skydiving from the edge of space.

    • Take it from me. As you age - I'm 60 - a lot of the stuff you did and achieved as a young person becomes almost irrelevant. A lot of stuff that seemed really important to me as a young man, now means little or nothing to me. Something like surfing these waves cannot be appreciated by anybody but other surfers, and then only other surfers who have experienced waves like this - which would be only a few people. Luckily the footage will live forever.

Even then, those waves at home would sometimes grab me, and make me wish I had chosen a different path in life. Yet, I went back again and again.
