What 16 Movies Looked Like Behind The Scenes in 2021 | Movies Insider

2021 began with a lot of uncertainty about delayed releases and how we would be able to consume blockbuster movies. Regardless of whether you watched at the theaters or from the comfort of your home, there were many captivating movies that took filmmaking to another level. High-adrenaline flicks like “Shangi-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” “F9” and “No Time to Die” created in-camera stunts that you may have thought were CG. Young audiences got to see 2-D characters come to life like never before in “Clifford the Big Red Dog,” and “Space Jam: A New Legacy.” And real-life landscapes were constructed in both “Old” and “The French Dispatch” to transport viewers to another world. Here’s what 16 movies of 2021 looked like behind the scenes.

  • That set in Old I think is the most impressive one especially considering a Hurricane took it out. Really smart idea of enhancing a beautiful spot to fit the story better. Also that motorcycle stunt looked so good I thought it was real and turns out it was. CGI is cool and all but the best stuff is when you combine practical and CGI, but most of all the thing you really need is GOOD WRITERS.

  • There's no way that Clifford "reference" was even remotely useful to the digital effects artists.

    @TimCortesi@TimCortesi2 жыл бұрын
    • The first paragraph mentioning it says it was for the actors. A lot of placeholders are just for either movement reference or lighting but in every case they are important for helping the actors react. Look at Star Wars prequel. They had no idea what they were looking at, just little orbs on a screen. And if that Red is the exact red of the dog it was useful for lighting/color. I didn't watch the movie so not sure how shadows look on the dog but it was useful to some of the artists, thought not sure cost wise it is worth rodoscopting it out.

      @EricHamm@EricHamm2 жыл бұрын
    • I know, they couldn’t make the puppet look a little more like a dog? I guess the actors in a sense learned to be more accepting of what looks different but I feel like this is still a stretch for their imagination

      @Zamarae@Zamarae2 жыл бұрын
    • @@Zamarae You do realize when they did the live action Scooby-Doo it was a "headless" actor holding a creepy fake dog head on a stick right? The actors don't need it to look realistic, they just need it to be approximately the right size and height so their eye-lines aren't off. Thats why in a lot of old movies with CG you'll notice the actors aren't even remotely looking at the CG characters and have trouble "tracking" the movement that they can't see.

  • why can't modern movies do fight scenes well? every punch requires a cut so you can't actually see any of the fight happening and it just leaves the viewer dizzy instead of immersed

    @whoeveriam0iam14222@whoeveriam0iam142222 жыл бұрын
    • Shang-Chi is much better about that. The fight choreography is more similar to a Jackie Chan movie. The digital environments do take away from that some though.

      @HermanVonPetri@HermanVonPetri2 жыл бұрын
    • I miss old Hong Kong cinema. There is still some really god fight scenes every year but they are usually not in good movies. Scott Atkins has a podcast where he talks about the magic of wide shot fights and interviews the best like Jaa. I seen some of his movies and they are not great but the fights are really dope. Really depends on the actor and if they can put off great fight choreography in a wide shot. That is why they make cuts a lot of the time. Look at the game of thrones battle with Breane and the hound. They could of used stuntmen but chose to only use the actors and it is one of the worst fight scenes I have seen in a bit budget show/movie.
