Honda Civic Type R (FL5) TCR Race Car testing on track: Accelerations, Fly Bys & Sound!
After more than a year since its official unveil, here's finally a video of mine fully focused on the Civic Type-R FL5-generation touring car. As for the previous versions, the FL5 TCR has been built and developed by the Italian company JAS Motorsport, improving on various aspects the already excellent 'FK'. The engine is still the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder derived from the production version and it's able to produce around 340 hp and 420 Nm torque (based on the BoP adjustments). It's linked to a SADEV ST90-17 6-speed sequential gearbox with paddle shifters.

As I watch this new tcr car, cant help but think about what james Kaye said in an interveiw regarding gen 1 tcr cars ['17 - 2018 models] vs gen 2 tcr's. Gen 1 cars are largely uncompetitive against gen 2 , but whats more is gen 2 now consists of mroe bespoke parts which make them very expensive to run. Apparently we are talking about 911 carrera cup to GT3 R kind of money. Thats kinda ridiculous. This in some regards has made gen 2 cars very unpopular. Infact if any are interested in motorsport politics and want to know what I'm talking about go watch the interveiw "peaks and troughs" with James Kaye at the 24hour series event it's very insightful to whats going on behind the scenes

Looked forward to see the Civic competing in SUPER GT this year.
On my 5th Honda since 87. Currently 89 CRX base with a D16a6. Just under 2000 lbs, slight mods. Fun little car, unmolested except suspension.

NGL some of those downshifts sound like a whoopee cushion.
the factory turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 engine is said to be fully race-prepped, not stock, that motor puts out 340HP, and the car is gutted, I cannot find the Weight or the Curb Weight for this car just the motor's power, but most likely this the car's weight is 450 pounds to 485 pounds lighter that stock, it has a lot of carbon fiber parts on it.
Yeah and there are bucket seat, no rear seat, i believe almost the whole body is in fiberglass etc
Honda says that it's "race-refined," which probably means that the emissions controls were removed and it was given a light tune. 340 hp is barely more than it makes stock.
Minimum weight without fuel or driver I'd 2877 for IMSA competition, you can assume they'd meet minimum.

These perform very well no doubt about that, however I’m not a huge fan of these as they don’t sound that great and look more like BMW’s 🤷🏻♂️ In my opinion…

This Civic is big shit
Building the exhaust headers into the block is the worst thing they've ever done for modern engines. This thing sounds awful. Same with the 1.5L Turbo in the Si. No matter what you do the exhaust will always sounds like a fart can because you have super restrictive unequal length log headers built into the block.
Looks good, but thanks to a group of "enviromental" beaurocrats Honda will never be the same. Now the screaming fart can is a real stereotype. I miss the old high rpm screaming K series, B series, H series and F series.
