The US has filed a landmark lawsuit against Apple, which accuses the tech giant of monopolising the smartphone market and crushing competition.
The justice department alleges the company used its power to limit competitors as well as the options available to consumers.
Apple has vowed to "vigorously" fight the lawsuit and denies the claims.

As a former Apple Employee, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

The EU forced Apple to use USB C. If not for them we'd still be stuck on that headache of lightning cable.

The US govt has been encouraging Apple to be a monopoly for a decade and now they've gone 180. I bet it's because the markets Apple are in are saturated and products are lacking innovation.

You forgot to mention BootCamp on Intel Based Mac: 1. All Macs from 2018-2020 support Windows 11 natively but apple didn't update the firmware (BIOS) to enable TPM 2.0 (fTPM) 2. Apple rarely update the drivers of BootCamp (between 2006-2020/ once a year or every 2 years) 3. No Official support of eGPU 4. Overheating Problems due to bad firmware (EFI Shell) implementation / Hardware initialization when using Windows (loss performance by 5%-20%) 5. Thunderbolt 3 Drivers very bad on Windows 10 since apple uses a different michanism to connect the x4 lanes of thunderbolt to the CPU which not direct access, unlike Intel Nuc or other PCs use direct access to the CPU.

ABOUT TIME. the lack of innovation every year with every variant but still charge a kidney for a new phone is ridiculous!
Loooool who told u go buy a phone that feels like it costs a kidney
Not an Apple fanboy, but I recently traded in my S21 for an iPhone SE 2022, and I got a promo deal and only ended up paying $180 for the 128 GB version. Phone runs very quick with it's A15 chip and it's small battery suits my needs. I would say if you want to spend less money on a phone, get a mid-range phone, like the Samsung A54 or perhaps an iPhone SE 3rd gen. Dont feel pressured to spend money on flagships, because honestly no one really uses all the features other than the bigger battery life, which can be obtained by Android or Google Pixel mid-range phones, or if you want the flagship speed and chip performance, then the SE. The big reason why I switched to Apple after spending 3 years with an Android phone is because I use my phone in a simple manner, and I was in the market for a new smartwatch. I did some research and surprisingly found out through a KZheadr who tests all smartwatches against medical grade devices to see that the Apple Watch outperforms all other wrist wearable in sleep tracking and heart rate tracking. In short, the Apple Watch has the best sensors for some odd reason, maybe because Apple invests all their money into smartwatches now, so I got an Apple Watch SE Gen 2 for $270 and I love it, from the safety features to the convenience of answering phone calls, and being able to see notifications real time along with gesture controls made this a great purchase. I also want a phone that would last a very long time, the SE proves to be that with it's old and proven iPhone 8 chassis with modern internals, that is good for 5 years minimum. I would say do your research before getting a phone or smartwatch, don't be a fanboy or loyal to any brand, always do your do- diligence when buying a product, and make sure it is reliable with longevity in mind.
@@Trapo-io6ci Loooool who asked for your opinion.
Dont buy...! Who's forcing you to?
Yeah and they will be suprised soon why china making better phones. Apples reception is terrible too
It took them this long? I mean, Apple is the company that is well known for doing this better then any other tech company! The only reason really I don't buy any Apple products at all, is for this soul reason.
So dont buy...! Whats the problem? Cant believe this is a law suit. Apple went bankrupt 3 decades ago and they have fought established markets like Nokia, Blackberry, Microsoft, HP and Dell and IBM and they didnt whine about it. Get over and move on. You dont like their products, dont buy.. You like buy. Sounds like you want something glittery and premium and cant afford it but then somehow want to put them down to make yourself feel good for not being able to afford. I cant afford their products and thats why I buy their cheap used products and love it. Cos it takes a lot to spoil their products.
@@pavanbk15589 "So don't buy" isn't really a strong argument against this lawsuit. Whether Apple fought to establish their market presence has no bearing on this either. The fact is they enjoy a strong market position and thus their practices are subject to regulatory scrutiny. This has nothing to do with people not being able to afford their products either. Do you know what's covered in the lawsuit?
@@pavanbk15589 First of all, you don't address anything of what I actually said. Please learn to give constructive criticism instead of spilling out your feelings and thoughts not related at all to what I said. The only thing I criticized, and what this law suit is about, is their way of using unfair methods in order to hinder fair competition. This is not someone's will to take down Apple in particular, this is about upholding the law of a free market. Without making sure those laws are followed, the market is suffering and the end consumers as well (just like he said in this vid).
You haven’t actually made any points. The lawsuit is frivolous. Apple aren’t hindering their competition, they are innovating in a free market. The thing your asking for, i.e government intervention, is about as far from free market as you can get. Consumers have the right to choose anything they want, they choose Apple.
@@seesidesummerhouse6112 Free market doesn't mean no control at all from government etc. If that was the case, the world would look a whole lot different now! Even worse. If you believe that it was not controlled all these years I guess you are in for a surprise, if you look into it. How is intentionally making other providers looking worse on their phone (the video mentioned for example) and also hindering other suppliers from having fare access to supply their services? The fact is that when you are as big as Apple is, then you can take advantage of your size and that in itself is not considered fair competition when done like this. They can compete as much as they want, but not by any means. I encourage you to look more into this and understand the other side of your opinion. Companies like Apple and Google have rightfully so been accused of using their dominant position in the market to unfairly favor their own services or products, thereby restricting competition.

As a former Apple user I personally hate them and the restrictions it brings to have an iPhone. Needing apple ID, iTunes, apple software on your pc just to be able to access your phone or images etc. It's way to much work. Android you can just plug in to any PC and you have access. At work we only have apple phones and everyone curses them. I personally feel that here in Sweden more and more people are switching to Android and hating IPhone for these reasons.

iTunes doesn't exist anymore. You don't need a PC to use an iPhone. wdym?
@StephenGill-gd4fx This just goes to show how long ago i used a Iphone, and I'm still not missing it. Even so, you still have a ton of restrictions for just using the phone. On my android, I'm not prompted to have a separate ID for my phone, prompted to use said ID and password to access basic features on it, and constantly being restricted by use of functions like copying files, pics etc to my pc without the use of other software that is now taking up space and time. It's just a hassle and I prefer things to be compatible at easy without having to take 20 extra steps for the same outcome. Not to mention the damn charger that doesn't fit anything but apple products.
About time you notice! Hope you do something about it.
Americans prefer to start a whole lawsuit instead of downloading WhatsApp lol
It's not just about iMessage, it's about how Apple has a huge lockdown on the iPhone when it comes to who or what apps can run on the device.
Your approach is super shallow. Clearly you don’t understand. It is not about messaging app. It is about having monopoly over iOS apps and charging high fees and so on.

Their prices are out of control
Go compare an iPhone to a similarly specked out android product and you’ll see it’s exactly the same. The only reason you have this perception is because Apple doesn’t lend itself to the lower end of the market just like Louis Vuitton doesn’t offer entry-level bags for discount prices. Educate yourself and stop listening to a man just because he’s behind a podium.
@tilly7326 prices have been increasing like crazy for very little change for the last 10 years. I have the newest Samsung phones which is similar to Apple prices however for most people these prices are very high.
iPhone prices are expensive but so is a Ferrari vs a Ford, so is a Rolex vs a Casio! If manufacturers could make a phone as good as the iPhone for substantially cheaper they would, but no one’s succeeded because making a high quality reliable product is expensive. Apple are the premium product, there’s nothing here forcing people to buy them. The messages service argument is laughable, there’s nothing stopping users from picking an alternative messaging app. Apple doesn’t block notifications for competing messaging apps for instance, or prevent those apps from being installed etc. Don’t like the prices, simply buy from a different vendor!
@@MrSamoDudeDid you not watch the news briefing? You’re completely missing the point.
@@tilly7326Android phones are pretty much everywhere and for every budget, right? But Apple's another story. By playing gatekeeper with features like messaging and AirDrop. If you're not in the Apple club, good luck trying to get in on the action. App creators been crying about this for years
Yeah its a night mere creating Apps for Apple, is a total waste of time, the bugs they introduce each new iOS update totally brakes the Apps and you have to wait 1+ year to get fixed if ever gets fixed. If they allowed third parties companies to have full control of their export options to work 100% in Apple products the developers will have more options and they wouldn't have to wait for Apple to fix or no fix issues. For example Chrome on Apple is basically Safari skinned to look like Chrome.
People create apps for money not for Apple. That’s why android market is full of 💩 apps and App Store doesn’t have this.
As a developer myself, I've always wanted to get into mobile development but it always stops at Apple. £100/year is insane just for a dev license, and that's excluding everything else. I have zero Apple shares and I’m so pissed off with Apple pricing, Cook’s prioritising shareholders above customers, but the BS he brought has no merit. He missed just points and moaned like a child about stuff any private company definitely has complete rights to. For example, Apple making their devices hard to be repeated and force certain ways for parts is a valid point, but raising a lawsuit against a shop for pricing its product the way it sees fit is totally dumb. Especially when there are other options out there and nobody is forcing people to buy it’s a mutual deal. You either take it or leave it, it’s not like it’s the only option and you’re gonna die if you don’t buy an iPhone! This can’t be more stupid and silly than this. Another is, when I have a shop and I allow you to present your product on my shelves, I am the one who decodes at which price. Not you, not a 3rd party and not the gov or a stupid person like this. It’s my shop. You can use other shops or your own if you don’t agree on my price. And I don’t even have to declare my reasons. What the hell is going on with this f*coed up world, leaving priorities and going after minor stuff. Double standards. Invading and allowing killing of innocents, leaving healthcare mafia, backing pharmaceutical criminals and running after a phone manufacturer to implement justice and fix the world, because this is gonna feed the poor, solve our money printing and trillions of loans, economy and other problems. 50,000 homeless people in LA alone... when will the US government focus on fixing it's own issues like a corrupt healthcare system or obesity or terrorist attacks?
Spot on and SF as well as
But but but… “i don’t like how apple runs their business”
I see, you're the guy here to demonstrate whataboutism to all of us. Good job. Also to the other guy, this isn't about how Apple runs their business, this is about how they make others run their business as well as diminish cross platform support to make non-apple users buy an iPhone next time.
Look at the price jump between iPhone 7 and iPhone X - about 500 USD..
why now ?
What about anti repair monopoly.
What about the price hike on cars that used to cost $35k and now cost $65k+.... who is suing them?
That’s completely different lol everything has gone up and cars have better technology now days too
@@davidware9549 Has technology improved so much in the last four years that car prices have almost doubled? I disagree. Also, more technology means more chances of things breaking, and the cost of technology repairs is insane. But I appreciate your comment. Did you consider that iPhones use better technology? Would that explain their high prices?
The android phones have more features than iphone with half the price... thus "worse technology" but ironically more expensive
well business means monopolising the supply to make it high demand
Agree❤
Actually, I can understand Apple restricting non-Apple-tested App Store apps on iPhones for security reasons. Every app sold on the App Store has been tested thoroughly (takes about a week per app), to ensure there is no malware, no user security concerns, no pornographic content, etc. Even updates of existing apps have to go through this process. Without that gating, we’d end up with a mess like downloads on Windows devices, that are often full of malware (anti-virus tech industry is booming). As an Apple-user, I do have some gripes about Apple, but I realise security and privacy are things they champion where other developers clearly don’t care.
I agree 100%!
@@RibbitTab Thank you.
Have you paid attention to the news lately? There's an unfixable security vulnerability built-in the hardware of some of their products. Apple is concerned with money. Sure they might have a more secure ecosystem, but windows isn't as far behind MacOS as they make it look. But both are veery far behind the security of an OPEN SOURCE piece of software called Linux. In any case, from my fellow developers, I only heard complaints about the interface they need to work with in order to develop any apple-based software
Why would a developer pay $99 per year to apple so others can use their apps (which are free/niche/won't make the $99 per year back anyway)
@@bennythetiger6052 I spent 20 years on Windows, after 7 years on MSDOS. Apple is not perfect, but I would never go back to a Windows machine. I have to use Windows via Parallels on my MacBook Pro for one specialty app I need for my work & research, and I need to make sure I have the net access turned off before opening Windows, or my device clock gets mysteriously reset to random hours & minutes. Too many security issues with Windows. Security is a nightmare now that the USA has embraced AI so vehemently. It’s in the hands of the hackers now. I’m also not happy with Apple diversifying so much and losing focus, it’s the opposite of what Steve Jobs was trying to do. My M1 MacBook Pro is only a shadow of my old mid-2013 MacBook Air in user experience. I’m sitting tight, waiting for a couple of guys in a garage in Scandinavia to design an entirely new computer that will revolutionise computing in a happy way…. Big changes are coming during the next 19 years.
They just want a cut that's all
Switched over from Android to Apple for the first time and I absolutely hate it. Going back to Android once my contract is over!
Apple has had this coming for a long long time, I look forward to them being put back in their box.
Sorry you can’t afford one bud

@@MrTheg2009Forget about him, threatened by US govt. For once, they'll see Apple is not really good. I have 8 phones, 7 of which are android and 1 apple. I play Pokemon Go, and nothing beats my androids when it comes to this game and how I play it.
@@jervylim9250I feel that lol I don’t play much yet but the fact I have pokemon ruby, sapphire and emerald as well whatever else I want is one of many reasons Android is far better. I like my apple stuff but it’s a iPhone 10 and an iPad mini 5th gen. the people who buy the new stuff all the time and fund apples horrible anti consumer practices are actually so stupid. If we care about the environment we shouldn’t be upgrading precious silicon chips every year. Not to mention there’s no need, most phones have been capable for years now
I think they should really investigate how they do not allow you to service your computers, but charge 10x the amount for RAM, SSDs etc
I think the first part of what you said on its own is illegal sooo
Fascinating insight into greed.
Why now?
Usually the EU courts getting at Apple but now the US gets involved good! Maybe it will help bring down the price of Apples products, I doubt it, but we can hope
Apple likes 50% profit margins
The price wont be lower though cuz other brands are doing the same thing with their price
