California Winter Storm Traffic - Lake Tahoe - Donner Pass - I80 - HWY 50 -snowy wrecks

2023 ж. 14 Қаң.
560 263 Рет қаралды

Content from I-80 from Soda Springs to Donner Pass, #california after a #winter #storm hit over the weekend. #accidents occurred all along I-80 prompting the closure of the interstate due to #blizzard conditions. The only route open to Lake Tahoe was Hwy 50 where numerous cars slid on #icy #roads making for near impossible #travel conditions due to #weather. Shots include #trucking stuck in the snow, medic seeking treatment in his own ambulance and cars sliding around. Also huge snow cuts as CalDot #snowremoval is underway with #snow #plowing using the rotary blowers on cuts as large as the massive machines.

That first guy had chains on and he couldn't get around. Either his vehicle is bad in the snow or he can't drive.....or both. Having fun with ya 😘 all. Keep the ❄ out there please!!

    • @@ldero9520 I can say from experience that you are wrong. I once drove three miles up a hill (near Colfax) backwards with my head hanging out the window. After covering m my face in snow repeatedly, I wanted nothing more than to drive forwards but each time I tried the chained front wheels would only slide. Backwards worked and I made it home with an ice-beard two inches thick! • no greater waste of time than a two wheel drive suv. its the cheaper version but it will disappoint you when you need it.

    • yuppp, I never understood why someone would buy an suv if it’s 2wd. If you don’t need or live in a area where awd is recommended, just get a sedan, same space, just lower. Then again they nEeD the visibility and height.

  • Was stuck in Reno for 6 days when it got bad in early December. I love the snow and we need it but I won't be driving in it. I understand that some people have no choice. We carry chains but if chains are required to travel my company says stay put. Not worth the headache of going up just to get turned back and the risk of crashing isn't worth it to me either.

    • The worst offenders appear to be the AWD sedans and such. The owners seem to think they are still safe going summer speeds.
