In a way, it is so calm and beautiful. I remember walking home from school in a couple heavy snow storms. The sound of the snow falling was so peaceful.
So, did Jonathan's hand get frozen from doing the video footage out the window? Last time I was there, definitely a lot less snow on the ground (about 35 years and two weeks ago).
Now imagine being stuck in Donner a 150 years ago…
I think of that every time I see one of these videos.

OMG! I hadn’t even looked at the comments but was just talking to my husband about this very thing! Without any of our modern extreme cold weather clothing or tools or equipment to get through something like that and just freezing and starving (or choosing not to) to death. Just not surprising.
About 176 years ago. I’ve been in a desperate situation once. Believe me when I tell you that people will do crazy things to survive. You would have to be in their frozen shoes to understand.
Yes, I suppose you might be on to something... Maybe it was a similar type of rare storm system occurance.
I realize how dangerous this is and how it is affecting people's lives but it is so beautiful. That was awesome. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
It's not dangerous if you have the proper equipment (snow tires) and drive appropriately for the conditions.

Thanks for the video. My wife and I came over from the UK in1985 to ski in South Lake Tahoe (Heavenly). It was a fabulous holiday that we will remember for the rest of our lives, Great place, great people.
I have taken this drive several times in winter from Mammoth to Truckee and back in snow storms and I’m here to tell you that it is the most beautiful drive you could ever take in your entire life it is absolutely magnificent❤️

I’ve said it before from someone living in New Zealand 🇳🇿 I just cannot get over how people live in these climates, more important it’s an absolute testament to the heroes that maintain the infrastructure that life continues 1:26 as ‘normal’ it’s incredible.
And then there's the "fire season". It's a tough life sometimes for Caltrans workers! And "heroes" is the right word!

@PUAlum well, it's the only reason that gn has declared states of emergency in a bunch of places. I am a 4th gen American in a family of 6 generations of rural Californians. Trust me, or trust whoever you want. I've already abandoned my favorite place in the world.....

Absolutely beautiful! Great driving in the snow! Eastcoaster here, was in Tahoe at end of march 2015. Loved everything about this place! Skiing with the views priceless!!!
This is amazing, no snow plows, no salt solution on the roads, just business as usual, wish I could bring my Jeep up there to ride in that stuff.

Incredible! I used to live in Incline Village and Zephyr Cove and now live in Italy. I moved here a year and a half ago from Zephyr Cove. While the cycling is great here Tahoe is my favorite summertime cycling place! Beautiful video I’ve recommended it/shared it with approximately 100 people. @@maybee... I lived in the South Shore area during the 1982-83 winter which was very similar to what you all are dealing with now.
The photography along the way was superb I don't think I could have filmed this well traveling this route.
Thank you for sharing this. God's Country.i was born and raised TahoeCity. Back in the day it was the community that worked together and helped one another. My grandpa has pictures where dogs blazed the trails so they could get started.
When you see all the cars coming from the other direction and NONE going where you are headed, you gotta think maybe it's time to find a motel or coffee shop. I'm quite comfortable (as a subscriber) watching thru your windshield as you bravely bash on...take care you guys!! Storms are real!

For anyone not familiar ...... AT 4:44 thru 5:33 Road at Donner Lake ( DONNER ! , Donner , party of fifty ). At 7:01 State Line near Cal-Neva (Lake Tahoe). At 8:30 - 11:37 Incline Village NV.From 11:37 east side Lake Tahoe heading south.
Calling the Donner party Party of 49 ...
I had to have tire chains driving into South Lake Tahoe in April last year. It seems every year is the storm of the century. 😂

we dont have winters like this for years , the kids dont know anymore what real snow and winters are , i do remember some good winters but this is amazing , if i had the money i would go on vacation, great contect , keep it up

Impressive. I live in No. Colorado, where snow is no stranger, but seldom do we get anything like this. Well, March 14-15 2021 we did get 30 inches over a 2 day period. This year we have had about 40 inches total for the season, and cold, with 4 straight months of below normal temperatures.
Hopefully next year is better for Colorado the mountain states need moisture

Yes I remember that storm we had drifts 3 feet deep. I got stuck in a huge drift in my lifted truck on 33s. I had to air down my tires and shovel abit but I got out. We have not had a storm like that since in denver.
I’m also on the Front Range but I can tell you that area of Cal/Nev sees more snowfall than any other place in the lower 48 year after year. 😅
@@joelbittner8791 I don't disagree. The northern mountains of Colorado are going to be blasted this weekend, as much as 2 ft. near Steamboat Springs.

My friend and I were at Tahoe at 6pm on 28th, and my flight from SFO back to Toronto was in the next day at 7;30am. All the major highways were closed and we have to use the local. It took us 9 hours drove all the way north to red bluff in a rx350 with all season tires. Big relief when we got out of the mountains suddenly the roads were wet and started to rain. I was arrived at the gate just in time as they were boarding the last zone. What a day 😂😂….
That was fun. Thank you for braving a storm to produce a video. I've never seen Tahoe like that before. Of course, I never venture up the mountain in the winter anyway, so your video was perfect and I could see everything. Be careful out there.

Here in Western Siberia, such weather in winter is considered a thaw. But of snow, is a lot even by our standards. You have shaken the foundations of my ideas about California.

Having lived all over midwest ( now in bay area ca ) , this was the scene every winter , some cities had awesome road maintenance, plough trucks running all day/nights, keeping it safe , other places like in WI it was left to nature , after a while you get used to it .

Did this going up 395, all the way into Truckee, and then Soda Springs~a few years back when 4 feet fell within a few hours...Great FUN in a 2003 Toy Runner 4WD, which easily passed everybody else on the side of the road, trying to chain up, near turn off for Mammoth Mountain☆☆!! If one is in the right kind of vehicle, a Tahoe blizzard can be a really "Cool" way to spend the day...Be SAFE on those amazingly pretty Winter roads...Holly:)
Amazing to see. I live about an hour west of this where the snow is much tamer. This is beautiful, but much nicer to see from my easy chair than through my car windshield.

Nice, I'm visiting Lake Tahoe next May/June, hope all that snow thawed by then. I live in the far South West of the UK, we get 1 inch of snow once every 10 years, amazing really seeing as we are 1000 miles further north than Lake Tahoe.

I don't know why but I love so much to drive in such weather, especially when it's the worst weather conditions, when you have a good and true capable 4x4. You just sit, drive and enjoy what is outside.
