  • You sure are good at backing up. I followed a semi one time 85 miles from one town to the next on icy roads & he went 35 mph the whole way. At one point a car passed us & when we went around the curve, that car was in the ditch. When the truck driver stopped for gas I got out & handed him a $20 bill & told him dinner was on me for him getting me safely to where I needed to go.

    • Wow that’s awesome story man you’re great for that. Some truckers are true professionals and some shouldn’t have a drivers license period. The snow and ice is definitely the most scary part of trucking. Thanks I try my best to back up safely without any issues or hitting anyone.

  • I started driving in 1977 and stopped in 2007 because I broke my back. After a couple surgeries and some healing I’m looking to get back out there. You have a good head on your shoulders. Be careful and learn as you go. I’m from Idaho, so I was more comfortable than drivers from the south. In 20 years I never was put out of service, never had a speeding ticket and never had an accident. You can do that as well. I can’t see your wiper blades, but they look like summer blades. Get winter blades. Also, practice while parked, reach out and pop the blade when it’s at the end. That will knock the ice off the blade. Please don’t take this wrong. Be careful giving “advice”. You can talk about what you’ve learned and experienced. But until you have at the least 1/2 million miles, you are learning. When I hit my first million, I felt I really could give advice and able to train drivers. I will always be learning and so will you. Wyoming is the worst state to drive through, bar none. Be careful out there, that’s an order, not a request.

    @davelarson5672@davelarson56724 ай бұрын
    • I appreciate it sir thanks for the tips and advice I will definitely keep everything you said in mind to help me as I go. There’s a lot to learn out here each and everyday and I’m doing that one day at a time. I agree Wyoming is no joke in winter ❄️ hope to see out here one day. The wipers I knocked the ice off but it built right back up. Yes you got that correct the blades are for the summer. Thanks for watching and the input that I can learn from much appreciated it. 🤝 🍻

  • By doing work on off duty or sleeper birth you are going to exhaust yourself, get into an accident and your company will not back you up. Don’t give them the hours because once you do that for them they will expect it next time and then when you are low on hours and cannot roll you cannot use that because you’ve done it for them. The logbook rules are there to protect you against companies that overwork their drivers

  • Thanks for the great video! I’d totally love to switch jobs with you for a couple of weeks. 🙂 As for the ice: I once crossed a Norwegian mountain pass in a winter storm - back and forth on the same day. By car. We were made to do the drive in a convoys following a snow plow. They gave us an instruction leaflet too. One of the things it said was to turn the window air vent to cold. On the first pass, I dismissed it as a translation issue and immediately had the snow melt on my warm windshield and froze right after. On the way back I put on all my warm gear and turned the window vent to hi+cold. No issue with ice whatsoever, the snow just blew right past. Not sure if I could drive like that for several hours though. Maybe if you have heated seats?

  • Two things on the windshield / wipers icing. Those wipers suck, get some beam wipers like Bosch that are one smooth piece. Second, get the purple windshield washer fluid. It’s good down to -30. When you’re in 25 degree temps, and driving 40 the wind chill doesn’t directly make your windshield colder feeling ( like windchill on your skin ) it does however remove heat much quicker and the defrosters can’t keep up. The lower temp ( purple ) washer fluid will help. Another wat to help is to RainX, Rain Clear or Cherakote glass treat your windows. The ice won’t stick to the Cherakote glass treatment. You seem like a professional driver and conscientious of others on the road. Thanks.

  • hey RunningOTR. seems like you've got a good head on your shoulders--at times i did the same thing thinking acouple mph less would work, and at times it will , other times take 5 or more mph off and you'd be even safer. the trouble is you need to make those dock times..what to do--be safe is #1 save your life and those around you on the road. I liked when you said you'd slow down more keeping a safe distance from truckers ahead of you. It doesn't take much in winter to get into trouble quickly. I also like that you're talking as you drive, that helps to keep you awake. I at times even rolled down windows and put the radio volume up higher than normal . eat well stay healthy sleep when allowed for as long as you can. i don't like watching truckers that don't say a thing any time of the year--boring-- even when the scenery is good. i hope you achieve your goals in trucking, beeee safe ! Ron. i like the first time johnny in the dock great job !

  • Nice video, put your camera in a better and steady place e.g. to show the speedometer, a small part of the bonnet including the front mirrors, and avoid too much speaking. I like to hear the noise of engine.

  • Saftey tip . Running air in the seat while driving in slippery conditions can delay your reaction to a tractor or trailer breaking loose . Watch your tandom length . All states vary in legnth and will site you . That 14th looks to long . Every truck has different weight in the wagon. Your 29,000lbs is light so you drive accordingly. 40 k comaparsion is a huge difference.

  • If running in heavy snow, keep the heat off the windshield, In fact, keep the cab somewhat cool. The heat is what causes the snow to melt, freeze, and accumulate on the windshield, beyond what the wipers can handle. I know you had a tip of keeping visors down to redirect more heat on windshield. I have to disagree! But I never had a Pete! Maybe it works for him? A “Pete” might be the only truck I never had since 1985. Ok, so this is an edit after watching more. I see the accumulation on you wipers. This is caused by the heat you’re blowing on the windshield. NEVER use your jake on these conditions! You can jackknife b4 you know what hit you!
