  • The electrolytic capacitor voltage should be chosen above 27, it cannot be selected lower than the operating voltage. If 27 volt DC was obtained with a high amperage battery instead of a 9 volt battery and given to a 25 volt capacitor, the capacitor could be damaged by swelling, it would be more appropriate to choose 50 volts. Also, I think that the selected foil strips are very thin and the same welding process could not be done with the slightly thicker ones. This process cannot be done for a very long time with these batteries, because the battery poles are also short-circuited with the capacitor in spotting, at this moment the battery connection with a switch should have been disabled, in my opinion. The most suitable for home may be the form of changing the winding with transformers taken from microwave scrap and applying the high amperage to the strips to be welded by hand mechanism. Good luck with.

  • Cool video but I think I'll just get a bigger piece of aluminum foil but still nonetheless pretty cool.. P.s. if you put one electrode on one sheet and touch the other one to the other sheet you should get a better weld as the electricity will flow from one piece to the other instead of the same piece to the same piece and counting on heat to make them stick. Thanks for sharing

  • It is recommended to increase the withstand voltage and capacity of the capacitor. In addition, when the instantaneous discharge occurs in contact, the energy is consumed by the spark discharge and the effect is reduced. Therefore, switching is recommended using a thyristor. The breakdown voltage of the capacitor should be about 30V.

    @tptplayer8400@tptplayer84005 жыл бұрын
    • what is exactly the role played by the thyristor in this contraption? thanks in advance for the answer.

      @abedee6027@abedee60274 жыл бұрын
    • @@abedee6027with real spot welder devices, the idea is to allow the connection to be made first before electronically discharging the energy pulse, so it doesn't heat just the surface. With low powered welders though, the resistance at the contact point is needed to generate enough heat to weld.

    • It seems the links provided show a Air conditioner Capacitor, on one and the other has around 10 x 9 volts and they are still having issues. You could use a 9V battery to spot weld Nickle strips as long as you had around 30 in Parallel(guessing). But the Batteries will get very very hot. The main reason I ask. If you check out my Video's here on KZhead, I have done Spot welders in just about every simple way you can possible do these. But I have yet to make one from 9V batteries. I have made 7 tab welders total-kzhead.info/tools/ohzN-bDShGlmb7NSrENZnA.html?view_as=subscriber I also have one more on the way, or the video will be ready in the next few weeks. This last welder #8 will be made from 6-8 x 350F Maxwell Caps in Series to give me around 18V-24V. Once that Video is completed, I will do a comparison video of all the welders I have. This is as long as I get the caps from the seller? I may even get a OEM Welder to compare with them! Would be pretty cool, if I could also make one out of 9V and test, but the system has to be stable(able to do a full battery pack). It is still a Great Video and a Great Idea!!!

  • The best way is to simply use 18650 cells, get ones that are out of a drill battery, usually these are capable of outputting 10A per cell. Now solder together 2 in series, and then another 2 in series, then solder both of those series in parallel. This gives you a 7.4v batter with a 20A output rating. This gives you around 148w of possible power, which is a lot. Now solder a pretty thick wire from these batteries, and you want to solder onto this a type of switch that is only on when you press it down, similar to what's in a video game controller, but you want a more heavy duty version, this means when you let go it will automatically turn off, there is no risk of it going too long for example, you can do 1-2 second easily with your own finger control. You can also get hundreds of spot welds done before the 18650's need recharging.

    @ziongite@ziongite2 жыл бұрын
    • I think you need to read up on series and parallel connection. Putting two cells in series that can source 10A will still source 10A. They need to go in parallel to source 20A.

      @HamzanMartinez@HamzanMartinez Жыл бұрын

    • Okay, so let me get this straight, if I understand you all correctly here, batteries in series multiplies the voltage by however many batteries are put in series, however, put those same batteries in a parallel circuit and you multiply the supplied current of the batteries, correct?🤷🏻‍♂️

More batteries in parallel do almost nothing, as the capacitor only draws a high current when connected; more batteries would just lower the current output for each one, the input current of the cap would be the same. To weld nickle strips onto 18650 for example, you want a high current for a short time. I'd recommed many more capacitors in parallel. (In that case more batteries as voltage sources would be a good thing)

      @itsdkiller2379@itsdkiller23792 жыл бұрын
    • @@joshanderson8938 The reason that people prefer batteries over PSUs is the limited output current. A PSU takes more time to load up the capacitor. So if this doesnt bother you, you could use one instead.

      @itsdkiller2379@itsdkiller23792 жыл бұрын
    • @@itsdkiller2379 @Daniel Weidhase @Daniel Weidhase I understand the limitations of current when considering a PSU vs a battery. I have actually played around with this project. By that I mean with a DIY 500w ATX PSU bench top conversion as well as 6v gel, 12v gel, 12v AGM, 12v SLA, and many many different caps. Of course you are more or less right, but I got the best results with a 4.7v 10f super cap powered by the +3.3v 24A output of my PSU. That said, I realize that some ppl won't have a super cap readily available. Especially if they are working with repurposed components. I also acknowledge the fact that my "best results" are subjective. I based my results on convenience and simplicity. My PSU is right in front of me. I just grab a cap, connect to my power supply, attach leads, and burn holes in nickel strips. BTW I annihilated a ton of aluminum foil.

      @joshanderson8938@joshanderson89382 жыл бұрын
    • @@joshanderson8938 I agree in every point. The type of PSUs I had in mind are not able to output that much current, like 3A 12V or something. A modifed ATX PSU or a high current transformer do the trick too, of course. But one thing: I would not recommend supercaps. Their capacity has a high tolerance range and if they break internally, they are likely to become about some nF. Some big electrolytic capacitors (Like 2000uF) do the trick too when connected in parallel (And the current load for each cap is low, theyll make you happy even longer)

    • If you add some more capacitors, then yes. I've tried ading more (to max cap. of 6800uF) and it almost worked. I think, that if you had 10000uF (or 10mF or 0.01F) you would have sufficient power to create rather strong welds. Remember, if you add more caps in series (szeregowo) youll increase the max voltage (sum of their voltages = max voltage), if you add more caps in parralel (równolegle), you'll increase the max capacity, and therefore create better welds. So for example, if you have only 2200uF caps, rated at 16V, youll need to have 12 of them (connect 2 in series (- to +) and repeat 6 times, then connect all negative poles of our capacitors together, and all the positive poles together as well and you should be good. Remember to remove the elcetrodes after making the weld, to avoid damaging the caps the battery and the power source(this is basicly a short circut) Miłej niedzieli!

This way the currant is much higher up to 30AMP, and use 16swg wire for linking up the charged cells, otherwise the solder used in this project will melt at first impact. So caution is advised and don't forget to ware dark glasses to avoid after burn to you eyes...

    @John_vDongen@John_vDongen2 жыл бұрын
    • Why would you drill a hole in metal? Maybe if you were using a wire fed type welder or soldering. Resistance welding is the way to go as long as both metals are suitable to melt together and bond correctly. Also spotwelding should be done with a big enough tip size and (COPPER) to reassure the weld nuggets aren't contaminated and were heated, melted and compressurized at perfect temperature and held briefly so the liquid metal cools and the welder is safe to move to next area. Not having correct spot welding tip and or not enough spotwelds can cause Resistance especially in high drain applications. It's always best to do test welds and peel away tests to ensure the proper welds are achieved
