this has to be what inspired the 'Going out of Business' electronic store in Don't Mess with the Zohan.
yup both written by robert smigel
Totally sony guts
Nah, anybody that's interacted with these cultures know this is how it went LoL
If this were after Forrest Gump, I bet the final item would be a box of chocolates
Wasn’t Crazy Eddie’s the inspiration?
Aww, Phil Hartman calling about the “cd player”. His voice was so gorgeous. Poor guy.
Thought it was him, his voice was/is so distinctive. His story is just proof that DV is universal and anyone can be a victim.
Hi, he’s Troy McClure
There are so many elements here that ended up in You Don't Mess with the Zohan .
Smigel wrote the sketch and Zohan if I'm not mistaken.
Sandler also would have had a soft spot for this sketch because it was apparently his first ever SNL sketch.
Smigel is a genius
Tom Hanks roots are comedy!
Bosom Buddies!
Actually, his roots are The Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival in Cleveland.
I just watched Bosom Buddies and I saw an episode of Family Ties in the first season where he plays the uncle …. So funny. SO YOUNG. And I saw both the first time around. So I guess we’re all getting older!!! 😉
Adam, Tom and Dana....those were the days!
The show is still good, the fans aren’t as great as they used to be though
His accent is closer to East Europe than it is to Israel
I forgot how funny Tom Hanks could be
He was on Bosom Buddies back in the day very early in his career so comedy's naturally in his blood.
So funny how people forgot about that show and it almost never comes up that he went from tv to film@DateMike22
He will always be first and foremost a comedian to me...Bosom Buddies and a Fish named Wanda. That's when I fell in love with him as a kid before he got all serious in Philadelphia.
@@DateMike22 Bachelor Party, all the way.
@ThatOpalGuy "and the winner is....Paprika! --Oh, thank you, thank you, you've made me the happiest spice in the world!"
Shout out and RIP to Phil Hartman
literally my fav SNL cast member and of course Simpsons when they were funny and not woke af
@@mikepette4422 Wow, ok trumper
Spending more time on politics and virtue signaling than writing good material is not exactly pushing the boundaries of comedy, it's lazy and hacky. Society can be "woke", that makes sense but there's no place for it in comedy.@@UberLummox
@christofferjenzen78 Sometimes, politics is the best target for comedy. Especially nowadays.
@@leebrock4783 Never was,its easy as hell and pandering. I'm a liberal and felt all those years using Trump as a crutch on SNL was embarrassing and just a way to fill out the time. It can produce good comedy but I would say it's rare.
I just discovered the Sabra’s skits and I can’t get enough of them 😂😂
Wonderful to see vintage content on here again. Not sure if this means Tom will be showing up again but if so I won't be complaining - he was one of the best.
Gosling is this week
@@LindaC616 I meant either as a cameo, or hosting one of the later episodes this season.
@@kengeorgejones6855 I think season is almost over, right?
@@LindaC616 4 more episodes.
Sabra's son must be the owner of "Going Out Of Business Store" in Don't Mess With The Zohan. The "Sony Guts" but has to be a family trait. 😂
We live in a neighborhood with Persian rug stores that have been going out of business for 45 years.
Tom Hanks on SNL was a classic! Those old SNL episodes with him are comedy gold!
Hearing Phil Hartmans voice makes me happy and cry RIP.
I have been looking for this skit for YEARS. Thank you for finally putting up on your KZhead channel!
Tom hanks was one of the best hosts on Snl. Love the vintage stuff
Omg, Adam was a baby!
I just adore Tom Hanks. As famous as he is and he is the same genuinely good human being as back in the bosom buddies days.
He is such a nice guy, that if he walked up to you on the street and punched you in the face... You would say... "I'm sorry"😂 "I don't know what I did, but apparently I need to work on it..."
Waking up on Saturday morning with an SNL episode made me question whether it was Sunday already and I missed a day somehow 😂
We need an up to date redo of this. Tom was Marcello, before Marcello existed 😂😂😂Let’s go! Marcello!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
OMD Adam Sandler looks like he's still in highschool in this
Look look looklooklooklooklooklook look looklooklooklooklook…😂
This is how shopping often is in the Middle East 😆 Spot on
wait a second are you calling Israel the middle east ? WHAT YOU SAY ? Israel is not middle east ! How dare you ! GET OUT OF STORE NOW !
@@mikepette4422 I’m part Persian. So, what I mean is the multiple countries in the Middle East that I have had the pleasure of visiting, including Iran, Israel, and others. In fact I most thought of the corner produce shops in Iran. They don’t even let you touch the produce and make you take blemished produce. It’s hilarious.
And Times Square for sure!
Adam Sandler literally took this and put it in don't mess with the zohan for the people in the store.
Robert Smigel did, Disco Disco Good Good!!
No haggling; how much you got!? 😂
I'm using this to show my 28-year-old friend that Tom Hanks used to be a comedian. She had absolutely no idea.
Show her Bosom Buddies
@@LindaC616it’s more current, but the“black jeopardy” skit with Tom was amazing. 😂😂😂
@askew9976 one if my most favorites ever! Hands down! Sent it to friends who don't always watch, they loved it, too!
Tom Hanks used to be a comedian😮😮😮
@lyngee2357 not many people in those days made the jump from TV to film. He did, Will Smith did, a handful of others.
Those prices are terrible, even for now! But, 34 years ago, that is insane, lol. Also, a few years ago, when I was working at Walt Disney World, one of the guests told me that I looked like Tom Hanks, which is one of my favorite compliments I have ever received from a stranger.
Are they though? Weren't these considered new technology back then? We pay 1000+ for the iPhone
Actual Tom Hanks confirmed.
@@21972012145525 they were ancient then and two were substitutes a1969 transistor radio and a 1959 ten key adding machine. VCRs in the mid 80s were under $200 with many around $99.
There were several years where that would be a bargain for even a basic vcr. Later on the basic ones got cheaper, like a hundred bucks, but in the 1980s, under 200 could be a deal. Gimme that flying erase head, baby!
@@mcv2178 i bought a Sanyo-Beta VCR in 1984 for $150...then a Toshiba VHS in 1988 for $110. In 1990 that was a basic VCR with an offbrand name:$99.99 at any big box store.
Uh sure, why not, a random old sketch upload.
check out 'Don't Mess With The Zohan' and you'll understand.
why not a random Sabra sketch upload right now in this political climate yeah absolutely
How much suck can the old show suck when the new show still sucks suck?

He looks sooooooooooooooooooooo young!

Even harder to spot than Tom
That shofar blowing...😂😂😂
Jewish David Pumpkins
He's his own thing!
Lattice and flower background used in SNL skits 75% between 1987-1991.
Is this where the “Sony guts” joke from Zohan comes from!?
That’s the Sabra Price is Right which is a different skit
Yep
The writer is the same person
how much better would the world be if Phil Hartmann was still alive.
3:37 - The Sandman's SNL debut performance
That was the Cosby Show.

Why did they even upload it at all?

@@patrickkellogg6031 Huh? Source saying it's 'hilarious'.
Sounds like a mix of Eastern European and Swedish accent.
Israeli accent
@@starseedswisdom3997 The "Israeli accent" is a Eastern European Accent. Most Jews in Israel are European.
Actually, they are Persian Jews in New York. They're supposed to be doing a Great Neck accent, but it's not working out
Sundown, we have to close.
So much of this of this was too realistic! 😅.. 😂😂😂
This is so SO accurate to the Israeli flea markets I've been to. I was buying a little brass camel figurine and felt that it was too expensive and the seller said "sixty shekel you will have it your whole life!" and shit I couldn't argue with him
Adam Sandler’s very first skit on SNL, unreal. Not embarrassed to say he and Farley are still my #1 favorite actors. Robert Smigel was a genius.
Didn't even recognize Tom Hanks! 😂🤣
Me either.
Today, they'd probably complain about his adopting the accent
What a flashback-for a few reasons. But going into those electronic shops in the 80s (or dealing with movers) in NYC was a real exercise in verbal jujitsu. You REALLY had to have a tolerance for yelling. And be willing to walk out the door.
1990 … Wow!
This reminds me when I bought my first car. Car stereo salesmen would follow me until I parked in a parking lot, pull up behind me, and open their trunk full of stereos, amps, and speakers. I was a sucker and I bought a stereo that had a funny name but he told me that it was sony guts inside, the unknown name was just to keep the prices down. It was junk that didn't last a week.
Around 2005 I got suckered into buying "Michelin off-brand" tires by a service-station guy who behaved a lot like Hanks in this sketch. I later found out the tires had nothing to do with Michelin and called him on it, and the story changed to "made with the Michelin technique." 🙄
Literally didnt realize it was tom hanks until i seen someone's comment after the vid
That's embarrassing.
@@StarWarsMoments that's just good acting 😂
You really shouldn't try to back out of a deal if they've already wrapped the item. It's basically already on its way to your address.
This reminds me of Crazy Gideon's Electronics store commercials in Los Angeles, California lol.
OMG! I haven't thought about those commercials until you mentioned them! I totally remember! Damn, I'm old.
We had Crazy Eddie on this coast, their prices were IN! SAAAAANE! : )
Is this the same sound/background music from the recent sketch La Maison du Bang? 😅
probably the reason they thought about this sketch, and put it on KZhead. Or other way around, they thought about music and this sketch came up...
I get nostalgic seeing all this stuff but what really gets me is hearing Phil Hartman’s voice 🥹
Strange that this upload and the Price Is Right upload weren't marked SNL Vintage.
This has Robert Smeichel written all over it.
Omgosh , Tom Hanks looks like David Hasselhoff here lol❗️🤷🏻♀️🤣♥️
I like the end when all run thier seprate ways when hear about consumer complaints.

The Zohan stole the Sonyguts
David Smigel, writer
The shofer🤣🤣🤣
"Sony guts"
Sony guts! (Probably Matsushita guts.)
This makes me think of Don't mess with the Zohan.
The man could have been a cast member if he hadn't been a movie star first. What a multifaceted talent.
He would have been amazing as a cast member.
He was on TV first. Bosom Buddies
They’re wild and crazy guys 😀
I remember years ago lots of these stores in the Times Square area of Manhattan all with going out of business signs.
I always enjoy watching Tom Hanks act. ❤
A lot of the skits from those times turned into movies... Yes a lot of the characters here were inspired to the Zohan canteen boy was Waterboy.....you can't forget to mention the great Robert Smigel. Master skit writer
Oh don't call them skits, they're sketches. Lorne gets very upset when someone gets that wrong.
