The attack on Pearl Harbor, which occurred on December 7, 1941, set the stage for a massive power shift in the nature of both World War II, and the world in general. Tired of America's attempts to block Japan's imperial ambitions in Asia, Japan launched a pre-emptive strike in the hopes of disabling the US Navy and giving Japan much needed time to establish dominance in the Asia-Pacific region while the US licked its wounds. Unfortunately, that's not quite how things went down...

    • Another video where the US is the good ones and the rest are the bad ones. Here in Latin America we trusted a lot in the US and how we ended up. The US ordered the killing of democratically elected presidents as Allende campaigned to savote his government. He established military governments and supported them even when they committed murders of their population. Pinochet Chile more than 20 thousand dead, Argentina more than 41 thousand dead, Paraguay, Bolivia, Brazil. He financed paramilitary groups against governments that did not share his geopolitics in El Salvador, he financed paramilitary groups killing thousands of civilians, etc. The US usually criticizes other nations as being expansionist or authoritarian but it is equal to them. Because if countries like Mexico, Brazil or Argentina feel militarily threatened by the US and its military bases, because you cannot ask for military help or assistance from China or Russia so that they can also place military bases, this would be impossible on the American continent because the US would block you financially. and militarily.

  • Fun facts One of Japan’s main objectives were to destroy the American Aircraft carriers. Two Enterprise would have had arrived at Pearl Harbor before the attack if it wasn’t for a storm. Three Enterprise launched Aircraft which did participate in Pearl Harbor. Finally I highly recommend that people watch the film Tora Tora Tora which is one of the most accurate Pearl Harbor movies and tells the story from the Japanese and American perspective.

    • I remember the famous scene at the end where Admiral Yammamoto is blunt with his officers and tells them what they've actually done: Attack the US without even a formal declaration of war yet issued publicly, violating all customs. "I cannot think of ANYTHING that would infuriate the Americans more. I fear all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve." To make matters even worse for him and the IJN, Tojo and the military government of the Japanese actually ordered attacks on the British Empire SIMULTANEOUSLY (Winston Churchill publicly revealed this in his first speech to Britain's Parliament after Pearl Harbor occurred). They were so convinced that they were invincible that Japan seriously tried to take on TWO of the world's most powerful militaries at the same time they were trying to conquer China. They were being led by utter maniacs.

  • One thing that was forgotten though.. Their primary target was the aircraft carriers. They weren't in the port during the attack which let us have less work to do since they didn't even get hit. Ended up winning the war because of them too. Without them we wouldn't have gotten close enough to Japan as easily.

  • I’m Japanese, I’m sorry about my country had done. RIP all of the soldiers and civilians who died in this war, hope we all find peace in our world. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was justified, but lots of lives were lost in the Japanese side, not even the Japanese children didn’t deserve this. But it requires some sacrifices to stop japan, but I hope we never use nukes again. My great grandfather was an officer of japan, idk which one. His name is Isamu Ito. Isamu is my middle name. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Americans put the Japanese people in interment camps which is similar to German interment camps. Japanese people lost their jobs, homes, cars, etc. by the time the war is over, they where still in the interment camps in a long period of time, by the time they got out, they suffered discrimination and hatred by the American people. They lost their homes to the newer house owners. Jobs weren’t hiring Japanese people so they had a high chance of being homeless because they’re Japanese. After some time, they signed the bill to never put up the interment camps again. Some schools want to put up intermittent camps, but they might get black lashed to the extreme.

    • What Japan did in most of its occupied territories was definitely not justified with Korean colonization and crimes at china, but even then that doesn't justify the bombs at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. You don't have to apologise for things your not responsible for. I also understand how Japanese society used to be and how it worked around the Emperor where everyone had to die for him or they would be deemed a traitor of the nation things were different back then so no need to feel apologetic
