FULL REVIEW: Chris Harris vs the 986bhp hybrid Ferrari SF90 | Top Gear: Series 29

2021 ж. 4 Ақп.

Chris Harris reviews one of Ferrari's many new offerings from the last year or two. This offering though, is really rather special. With a twin-turbo V8, bolstered by no-less than 3 electric motors, the Ferrari SF90 is one of the most complex and adept supercars ever made. So let's see what Chris makes of it...

    • This is a Ferrari. It is not MEANT to be driven electric alone. The three small electric engines provide a total of 200 HP and are just meant to teamwork with the V8 to make the car more performing especially in curves - there are two 99 kWh electric engines attached one to each front wheel, they act independently in the curve. The electric engines are there to modify and enhance the performance, which is a piece of art, not to make the Ferrari an electric plug-in. This is not a Nissan, and it's also not a Porsche.

Dragtimes got this SF90 to do a 9.6 quarter mile on the street. That’s a record for any production car, maybe to be beat only by EVs (which aren’t really cars). Anyways, my point is that regardless of the direction Ferrari has taken you cant argue with their performance.

  • to everyone commenting on the qualms of this car: the SF90 was _most likely_ built to lower their fleet average emissions since it's a mass production hybrid. So this will literally keep their v12's alive. But we all know ferrari is very conservative towards lower end models in order to preserve their flagship supercar range (laferrari, enzo, f50..) so the tradeoff is that the SF90 doesn't feel as driver oriented or feel as "special" as one would expect it to. I wouldn't be suprised if the roma/portofino went in this direction too
