Let them peck at grass, insects, feel the sun and rain, etc. Provide walls and roofs of course, but let them be a chicken instead of existing as they grow large enough for harvest. For collecting them? Take off the car wash rubber bits and leave the ramp. Have workers use the good old fashioned movable wall to pressure the chickens up the ramp. Use a net on the top of the compartment so natural light seeps through and it's not a dark, scary, unknown place. We can still farm them without treating them like a bacteria culture. That production model eliminates the need for antibiotics, vaccines, forceful "maintenance", etc. and improves soil and plant quality when done properly. Disgusting what people will do for a profit margin.

    @tigar0485@tigar04852 жыл бұрын
    • Yes, but also, that profit is what allowed us to build our current civilization. Going back to less efficient agriculture method will force a lot more people to dedicate time to it, making less people available for other jobs. It wouldn’t be an issue to move people from starbucks to more valuable jobs… but seeing how low-value companies like starbucks are growing fast, I don’t think the majority of people are ready for such a change.

    • Yet all things being equal, that's a much less traumatic way of being collected than most chickens in years past could expect. I know a few people who had summer jobs working for turkey and chicken operations - hand collecting chickens meant grabbing a bunch by their legs and holding as many as you could (had to be uncomfortable) in one hand before dropping them into a bin. Sure, it was only a handful of seconds max, but it was up close and personal; one of these humans who fed you is now grabbing you. Instead, loud machine comes, and you're grabbed in pretty gently (they don't want to injure any) and you're confused briefly by that conveyor belt, but you're quickly in a nice bin with your fellow chickens. When done correctly, modern livestock raising and slaughter operations CAN be ethical and as kind as possible; and no, we don't claim to be Buddhist monks who never hurt a fly. I like meat... just when it's raised and processed humanely.

Before the machine they would have man grab them by any part of the body they could catch and toss them in a cages, before taking them to slaughter. Where they hand them by their (some times broken) legs as they go though the zapper which kill them before they slit their throats so the blood can drain before they are de fluffed of fevers, and moved into the butchers shop to be cut it to Wings to Breast pieces. And then the bone which are left are sprayed with high powered spray gun to mechanically remove what meat and ligaments left in to Banger's, nuggets and other processed meat forms. Thankfully Broiler farming is in decide as people are waking up to what the difference is between factory chickens, organic, and free range etc. But either way something has to catch those chickens other wise McDonald's and KFC would have to shut and you saw what people was like over Covid lockdown when KFC and McDonald's shut for 4 week and the block road outside waiting for them to reopen.

  • The machine that hooks up horses for a gallop. Seems to me that if a horse stumbled, it would drastically increase the severity of an injury because the horse will be dragged along until the machine can safely slow down for the other horses. If a rider was up on a horse that took a misstep, or the rider 'felt' a change in how the horse was moving...he has the ability to slow that horse down as quickly as possible, and in the latter case, could even prevent a severe injury, just by knowing the horse took a few strides and was tensing up, or if the rider felt a 'hitch' in the horse's movement. The machine with men sitting on it, rather than the horses, isn't going to give anyone a 'pre-warning' that the horse is in some kind of duress. As far as the chickens...this system is way more humane than in years past. And also...I believe that those screaming for 'free range' chickens...are actually seeing what the legal definition of 'free range' is. From my understanding, all they did to get that 'free range' tag, was reduce the number of chickens in a warehouse, so that the chickens can move about a bit easier...where in the past, the chickens were so crammed packed in there, they could barely move. Also in some cases, the chickens were removed from a caged system, to that warehouse situation. However, I believe that most egg laying hens are still living in cages...but the cages were made big enough for a hen to stand up, and turn around if it wishes. Prior to that law, some places had the cages so small, the hens couldn't move like that. Also, if the 'free range' guidelines are as what I was told, then this is a deception upon the consumers in making them believe some fantasy that free range chickens are out in some big, but still fenced, in pasture/coop and are moving around with lots of space between it and other chickens.

Because of the selective breeding they grow three times faster than a normal chicken which causes health problems like weak bones and frequent heart attacks. This usually isn't an issue because by the time these health problems arise, it's time for them to be slaughtered anyway. But I have to imagine that a machine like that must kill or break more chickens that would have survived the journey to the slaughterhouse, lowering the yield.

I've helped put 400 cows through a holding chute in 3 long work days and appreciate how this modern equipment makes it safer for both big animals and humans. That said, turning our farms over to robots to make more profit is one of the scariest things I've ever seen. Not that people working these industrial farms have compassion for animals, but I can imagine eventually the humans won't be there at all. • @@ramakantyadav1551 , well,well, well, nothing gets stuck. KARMA is the most important word in this universe because KARMA is the reason for the existence of you , I and the entire cosmos . So, that word must be capitalized. Most efficient killing will render the most painful KARMA. Do you still think the keyboard is stuck in the capitalization mode. If so, you are a lost soul. I hope not.

    • The livestock crush looks pretty rude at first (that's the hoof trimming bit for the cows) but after learning more about the farrier trade, I've learned that these are really very beneficial to the animals. Within reason of course -- the person doing the trimming can still be a brutal monster. Used responsibly, it's a good thing.

  • We had a standard poodle who went outside to relieve himself and it was raining a little and he came back in and shook out so hard that he ruptured a disc in his spine. We found him laying down unable to stand up. He was taken to the Emergency Speciality Doggie hospital. We paid a very huge bill to have surgery and as part of his rehabilitation he had time in a tank of water with a treadmill too. After many therapy treatments, special care at home, he finally walked again. His physical therapist and my daughter and I burst into tears when he finally walked again.
