  • The X-15 went higher and faster back in the 1960s but only had one pilot on board. The thing about commercial flights like this that makes me smile is seeing them return and land upright under rocket control. It still seems like simulation.

    @cuymathis5779@cuymathis57792 жыл бұрын
    • Because it doesn’t have to put the capsule into orbit. If it did, that little rocket wouldn’t have worked because it’s simply not nearly powerful enough to achieve the speed required to go into an orbit (17,000 mph).

    • The rocket’s power seemed to come up a bit short. Probably because they weren’t even trying to go into orbit. They just went straight up and straight back down again. You don’t get to experience weightlessness on such a journey. That requires you to actually be orbiting the planet or traveling some distance from the Earth so as to no longer feel the effects of the gravity. Even if they had actually made it into outer space, that’s nowhere near far enough away to become weightless. Even the moon feels the Earth’s gravity pulling on it. Thus, the moon is actually falling in towards the Earth. Lucky for us that the moon is moving fast enough past the planet that it keeps missing it’s chance to smash into the planet. That’s called an orbit.

    • One of the bigest misconceptions about space is about no gravity in space, there is constant gravity even as high as the iss and our satellites. What causes weightlessness and seemingly no gravity is the speed at which the objects are going, it's called terminal velocity. Essentially when in orbit you aren't outside of gravity but merely constantly falling away from the earth at the same speed as gravity is pulling you towards earth, if the iss just stopped and dropped to 0mph it would fall to earth much like this capsule

You can do that in any plane or even a roller coster for a moment, you feel no gravity, but it's there.

    • @@dylanm.3692 "The exhaust is just water vapor" Wrong Kemosabe. Not your fault dude, we've been repeatedly told that. But here's the deal. The most common gaseous emissions are water vapor and carbon dioxide from liquid and solid rocket fuels, as well as hydrochloric acid from only solid rocket fuels. This would include the Hydrogen based rocket fuel you speak of. But Elon is using a methane based fuel. Regardless, it too produces the same thing unfortunately, (carbon dioxide). Don't forget, these things create heat (BTU's) as well. When we produce heat here on Earth, it doesn't just dissipate into space. It's trapped by our atmosphere where it get's concentrated, hotter and hotter. Think of all the heat sources we have here, power plants, concrete buildings, factories, ships and planes ,highways and parking lots and rooftops, etc. We are slowly cooking ourselves. It's weird how light can (practically) freely penetrate our atmosphere, yet heat can't escape through it. BTW, I'm NOT a tree hugger, but you can't argue (convincingly anyway) that the climate isn't being altered in some fashion. I just don't agree that my weed eater is the culprit! By the way, did anyone notice at the climate change summit Biden held, he repeatedly blamed methane, not carbon dioxide, for the climate crisis? He explicitly stated that several times. He's trying to derail Spacex because Musk isn't a supporter of his, at least it sure appears that way. Biden didn't bother to invite Tesla last Aug. to the White house with all the other EV manufacturers, why not? Unfortunately, I think Biden will be the biggest obstacle for Musk and the advancement of mankind.

    • @@user-yd1vl9lj5j It's hydrogen and oxygen. There are no carbon based molecules involved. Explain how that could ever create CO2.

      @dylanm.3692@dylanm.36922 жыл бұрын
    • @@user-yd1vl9lj5j WRONG. Not all rockets need to use other propellants. The main tank from the space shuttle was filled with Oxygen and Hydrogen. The so called “smoke” from the shuttle’s 3 engines was actually water vapor. When hydrogen and oxygen are burned, they only create steam (water). The solid rocket boosters are completely different. Those did pollute. Most rockets burn other propellants because they need to generate more thrust than that which can be achieved using only hydrogen and oxygen. In the space shuttle’s case, that extra thrust came from the 2 solid rocket boosters. Those boosters were designed to burn out and fall away right when that extra thrust was no longer required. At that point forward, the space shuttle no longer polluted the atmosphere. Fuel cells burn hydrogen and oxygen. The only thing that comes from a hydrogen powered car’s tailpipe is water. Fuel cell cars run even cleaner than battery powered cars. Much cleaner. That’s because the electricity that’s inside the batteries of an electric car is still created by power plants. Electric cars still pollute. Only, the tailpipe is no longer attached to the car…it’s on the top of the power plant. And if that power plant is still coal fired, than your so called “non-polluting” electric car isn’t much cleaner than a late model gasoline powered vehicle.

    • @@user-yd1vl9lj5j REALLY? So you think the heat from rockets just stays there in the atmosphere? ARE YOU SERIOUS? Try this experiment…turn your oven on to broil (500 degrees) and leave it there for 10 minutes. Then turn it off. An hour later, open the oven door and check the temperature. According to your theory, it should be around 500 degrees. Only…it’ll actually be room temperature. Tell me, where did all that hot air go? Do you think that if we all opened our windows in the middle of winter we can make it warmer outside??? Or cool down really hot days by running our AC with the windows open??? Dude…do yourself a favor…go get yourself an education. Obviously you missed getting one the first time around. BTW, when you burn hydrogen and oxygen, you don’t gat any CO2. You get…water. Steam is water…as is ice. And there’s nothing weird about the fact that light can penetrate our atmosphere. Light is actually photons that are the byproduct of the nuclear fusion that takes place in the core of our star. Those photons take between 10,000 - 100,000 years to escape from the interior of the sun. It’s a good thing too, because otherwise we’d all be dead. That’s because those high energy photons in the sun’s core are called “gamma rays” and would fry us instantly. Once they do escape from the sun (and have lost a huge amount of energy in the process), it takes them just over 8 minutes to hit the Earth. EVERYTHING puts out photons, including you. Otherwise you would be invisible to others.
