Kearney, Nebraska: What a Surprise! | RV America Y'all
Kearney, Nebraska: What a Surprise! | RV America Y'all
Continuing our amazing USA Road Trip... next stop: Nebraska! Now, at first glance, you might be thinking, "Yay! Nebraska!" or you might be thinking, "Nebraska? What is there to see?". Well, let us tell you, we were completely surprised and amazed by all that we discovered on our RV road trip across Nebraska. And we share the beginning of our Nebraska adventure in this video.
Our journey this week begins in Omaha. While we didn't film much of our time in Omaha, Nebraska (we spent family time with our son and his girlfriend instead), we do share our campsite at the West Omaha KOA and our thoughts on the campground as a basecamp for exploring Omaha NE.
Then we hit the road and share some of the AWESOME museums and restaurants that we visited in surprising Kearney, Nebraska. We spent 4 nights in Kearney NE and it wasn't nearly enough. There is so much to do in and around the Kearney Nebraska area. We will definitely be going back to spend more time there in the future.
Oh my goodness, y'all... Nebraska is AMAZING!!!
👍 Mentioned In This Video:
The Buggy Barn Museum in Blanco TX. You can see it in our Blanco Texas video: • Blanco TX | Small Town...

You won't believe all of the amazing places that we found in Nebraska! This is just the first stop. We'll have more from our Nebraska Road Trip next week as we continue our RV journey west on Interstate 80.

As a Kearney resident, I am glad to hear you enjoyed your visit! Come back anytime 🙂
Thanks so much Bradley! We definitely will.
Seeing that 1967 Olds just about made me cry, man I miss my old car now after seeing one there.
😢
Thanks so much for such a sweet tribute to our state and the history within! Enjoy your travels!
You’re welcome & stay tuned, we have a few more Nebraska videos coming up.
We are Nebraskans and there is so much beauty and interesting things here!! Thanks for featuring our great state!!
Pioneer village is one of the top attractions in the country in my opinion.
Totally agree!
Great video. I am a Nebraska native although I live in the Ozarks now. I always enjoy my return visits to Nebraska. Wish you could see the Bailey Yard in N Platte. Then go north to Ft Robinson, then a right turn thru the Sandhills. More history there than you can imagine. Take the Sandhills Scenic Byway. In Broken Bow there is a nice city owned campground that is very reasonable. I am 75 and went to Pioneer Village when I was about 10. Loved it. Back then, the carousel was steam powered and so was the popcorn machine. Glad they are putting effort into bringing that treasure back to its former glory.
Thanks so much Larry! We’re so glad you enjoyed the video. We can’t wait for you to see our other Nebraska videos. We have a whole series of them coming up. Thanks for the tips on more to see… we’ve added them all to our map to visit in the future. Bet that carousel was something to see! They are beginning to refurb it now.
Great video! Kearney is one of the best places to live in America but it rarely gets mentioned. It has everything !
Thanks
I love my home State of Nebraska. The old market in Omaha has enough old world eateries and dives to make anyone's tummy happy. 😊 😋😋😋
We enjoyed Omaha!
You need to read Blood and Thunder or listen to the audio book. I was kind of laughing. Enjoyed watching. My grandfather on my stepfather's side was a cowboy in the Valentine area. I always thought of that area of being flat and boring but it's actually interesting terrain.
Yes it is!
If you're still in west neb, you got to get out to fort Robinson (real old and cool fort they also used in WW1 spec ops training, and horse rides are amazing there) and also, the buffalo run historical site & toadstool geological park -its surreal bc you're all of a sudden encroached by desert and what it prob looked like pre settlement. There's also a native American museum out that way somewhere that was neat. It'd be a short detour on the way to north CO or south WY or to that massive crystal cave in far west SD
Next time, thanks for the info!
The Archway Museum has displays that illustrate all the various travellers that passed through the area.
Yes and we loved it! 😍
Was in Minden, NB when I was a child in 1956 with my Aunt, Mom, and cousins it was a sight then and I can imagine more so now thank you for showing it. Paul Kahr, Wisconsin
Your welcome Paul!
You weren’t there in the spring but you should mention the Sandhill crane migration thru the Kearney-Grand Island area in Nebraska. Be sure to check out the Rowe Sanctuary, just east of Kearney. Located on the south bank of the Platte River, between early February to mid-April, some 300,000 to 500,000 cranes will stop over for a few weeks to feed. The cranes roost in the Platte River at night. Rowe has a blind for observing the cranes as they leave the Platte in the morning or return to the River at sunset. Truly amazing!
That would be really cool, thanks
Been to the Archway many times in my life. I used live in Kearney NE in the summer time in the 1990s with my sister and brother in law. My brother in law Shawn used the run all the bars in Kearney back in the 1990s he was like Dalton in the Roadhouse movie knew a lot about the bar business. He had a bouncer Curtis Harry who went to the 1994 winter Olympic games in Lillehammer Norway with the Trinidad and Tobago bobsled team. Like the movie Cool Running 1993 but in real life. My hometown of Sidney also had a Cabela's store in Kearney to. I suggest you visit Fort Robinson and Chadron State Parks in the panhandle of Nebraska and there is also Car Henge in Alliance Nebraska kind of like Stonehenge.
Thanks for the recommendations! 👍🏻
I'm from Nebraska. Lived here 52 years. Driven under the Arch 100s of times. Still havnt stopped. Guess I should someday. Lol
Absolutely!
We love that we found your channel, we live in Michigan and want to tent camp through Texas where we have family. Thank you, Thank you for all your Texas state parks videos. Now we are following your other travels. Stay safe and happy travels. We’ll be watching. Yes we did subscribe, with that bell 😀
Thanks and welcome in!
While in the area should really check out FT Robinson in Crawford NE. Absolutely an awesome historic site.
Thanks for sharing!
If you stayed on I80 through Nebraska, you didn't see Nebraska. Lots more to see when you get off the interstate. Go through the sandhills and end up at Crawford and see Ft. Robinson. If you're history buffs you'll like Ft. Robinson and the scenery to get there is one of a kind!
We will do that next time, thanks
You'd see more from US 30, but maybe you'd miss the big stuff. Towns are really fun. Anyhow, you got quite a slice with those museums and the park.
I'm from Kearney! Really enjoyed your video. We do not have an RV but maybe someday. Thanks for stopping in our town!
Your welcome and thanks for watching!
PS... come back in July for the classic car show and we have so much fun....😊
😎
I watched your video earlier this year that spoke about pioneer village in Nebraska. My son is now at Air Force Base in Omaha Nebraska. We plan on taking our RV up there the summer 2023 to visit him. We just happened to watch American pickers tonight on the History channel. Guess what they had a complete show on pioneer village. There was over 20 quansum huts that they picked in and found all kinds of stuff. Apparently they picked the huts in 2022. Pioneer village was trying to raise additional money to renovate some stuff. They also had a online auction of a bunch of stuff they didn't need in the quantum huts in 2022. We thought about you all and your video when we saw the pickers tonight.
Thanks! They were raising money for the needed renovations!
Loved your video excellent job. That is my home state, I retired in Ecuador so it was really cool to watch your video today. Frustrates me when people say Nebraska is a flyover state. They have no clue especially the northern part of that state absolutely stunning. Good job keep it up and stay safe on the road. By the way if you ever get to Paxton Nebraska stop at Olie's and eat. Best damn Rocky mountain oysters you'll ever have LOL.
Thanks for watching and the tip! 😊
You missed the Museum of American Speed in Lincoln, run by Speedway Motors. A great time there with some incredible vehicles and very informative staff that really know their cars.
Next time, thanks
Next time you come through Nebraska you'll want to stop in Grand Island and go to Stuhr Museum. It's called the "Gem of the Prairie". They have a working town called Railroad Town. The time period is the 1890s. One of the houses on the property is where Henry Fonda was born. I believe it is open May through September. The main building is beautiful and was designed by Edward Durell Stone. It is open year round.
Thanks for this little gem, it’s now on the list for next time!
YOU ALL KNOW that you two are good at this just found you i think the sky is the limit for you guys done subscribed
Thanks for joining our journey! 😊
Wow. Going to put Kearney on my bucket list. Thank you guys.
Cool

I love Pioneer museum, it's an amazing museum. We enjoyed your video.
Thanks, it is awesome!
Ash Falls, Carhenge, Smith Falls, Chimney Rick, Scottsbluff Monument
More to come in future video but we didn’t make it to Chimney Rock, we will next time though!
Love love it!
Thanks 😊
This is what I love most about your channel. Y'all show me things I would have never seen and make me want to go to places I would have never wanted to go. Great video as always.
Thanks Verne!
So good to see you guys. Greetings from Toronto. The 2 Tasmanians
Thanks, good to hear from y’all! I hope Toronto is nice & cool. See ya on the road one day!
I am so glad that people are not passing thru Nebraska without discovering our history. We watch the arch being pulled across the interstate during building this magnificent museum. You must travel thru the Sandhills of Nebraska. They are the largest deposit of sand dunes in the a Western hemisphere. They are covered with grass, that is so rich, the cattle do not need supplement feeds. It may be dry, this year as they have not had much rain. Go north out of Kearney to highway 2 west. Gorgeous rolling hills. Enjoy!
Thanks for the tips, those will be next time!
The “Year to Volunteer” bunch came through in May 2022 and helped with work on some of the Pioneer Village area. They restored the sign with the red arrow in total. We live down by the baseball stadium in Omaha. Would have loved to meet you when you were here but we were in the Yellowstone/Tetons area at that time so maybe another time!
Sounds great, maybe another time!
Glad you explored Omaha! Nebraska may have tons of cornfields, but we' re an awesome bunch of great friendly people. Im a Kearney resident and sadly i havent even visited the museum ( Glad y'all had an enjoyable stay..... also im from Ft Worth and moved here when i was 12...
We really enjoyed our visit, thanks for watching! 😊
Awesome! Thank you 😊 💓
Your welcome
WOW, VERY nice. A Gem for sure. Just saying, HAIRCUT time….
😂 never know
Oh wow. I wish I’d known u were here close to Lincoln. I would have taken u out for lunch. Glad u enjoyed ur stay.
Shoot, it’s the thought that counts! Maybe next time.
Hi y’all cool explore as always 🤠👍 keep on enjoying your adventures
Will do, thanks!
I live in Kansas and I love going to Nebraska. We went to Hastings, Minden and Kearney last year. We have been to the Archway Museum and the Pioneer Village, 2 different times and yes the Pioneer Village is huge. We have also been to the car museum in Kearney, 2 different times, which I love. We are thinking about going back this fall. Thank you for the memories!
We need to go to the car museum next time, thanks!
Be sure and time a visit during the great crane migrations.
We heard about that, 😎
Wow!! What a gem of a stay over. You guys never disappoint us with your finds. Headed to the store to get a journal to write all these great places to visit down. Love your travels ya'll take care.
That’s awesome, thanks for the kind words and watching! 😊
You always find a great history gem and you never disappoint. You give such history where you are at.
Thanks so much Carolyn! We really appreciate it.
Such a fun video. Y’all are adorable and so informative.
Thanks for your kind words!
Thanks for the great video and all the information y'all give!
No problem RC!
seeing family is always good enjoy from Utah
Absolutely!
The Arch Museum is a winner but I’ve never stopped. I went to the University of Wyoming and so did my two sons so my late wife and I drove under it countless times. Boy we missed something special! I won’t bypass it again. We visited Pioneer Village many years ago and boy has it grown! I love Nebraska and my wife had her cancer therapies in Omaha. I still have close friends who live in the Sand Hills. I just have to get moving! Thanks for another great video!
Thanks Bill, it is really worth your time. Thanks for telling your story & so sorry about your wife.
Great video! Thank you 🙏🏽🇺🇸🙏🏽
Thanks so much Missy!
What a great video of our great area of Nebraska, especially my city of Kearney! There are always new things happening in K-town, currently there is a new botanical garden being constructed in one of the local parks...it will be fabulous!
We loved Kearney as well! Thanks for the info!
It sure makes me want to come out there. Happy camping.
Worthy
Grew up in Nebraska. Great things to see and do there
We absolutely understand what you're saying, Doug! Can't wait to share more of our Nebraska road trip with you over the next few weeks.
Very interesting! I would most likely stop there . Thanks for the tour.
Its worth the stop for sure!
Another really nice camp ground.. And such interesting places to see, which are so often over looked..
Thanks
Have you been in the Cody museum in Cody Wyoming? Great Great museum. My favorite so far
We haven’t but it’s on the list for the future! Thanks
I have just started watching your channel. The few videos I have watched are just exactly the things I love. I live in Nebraska, and have my whole life. I have been through the arch three times and everyone have seen stuff I didn't the first time. Years ago we learned that the state of Nebraska is history rich. I have lived on the republican river my whole life. I have spent a ton of time up and down the Platte. Really look forward to your travels west. Thank you.
Thanks Mike, we absolutely love the history and landscape more & more as we travel through Nebraska!
Nice!
Thanks
We’ve only driven through Nebraska. Hopefully we can visit next year. Great video!
Thanks! Tons to see and do there!
Great video! Thank you for stopping off I-80 to visit Central Nebraska! Minden is my hometown. Pioneer Village is a gem and often overlooked as few people take the side trip off the interstate. I am so glad you enjoyed your visit!
Thanks Ruth, we really enjoyed the stop & we have a few more Nebraska videos still coming up. 😊
Tom and Stacy this is a great looking town and the Pioneer Village looks amazing thanks for sharing the video hope you have safe travels and Be Blessed
Thanks Loretta
Cool and interesting info! Thanks for sharing!
No problem
Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful tour of our area. There really is more to Nebraska than Omaha and Lincoln. Hope you were able to stop by Yanney Park and visit the new gardens. Great area and great people!
We didn’t make it to Yanney Park but we have a few more videos coming up on the rest of our trip through Nebraska!
Wow, looks like fun. Y'all need to go during football season and go the tailgate. No, not a fan of Nebraska. But just love football, I'm from Texas. 😂👍
We love to tailgate & go see college football as well!
Well you Two, Just want to say that is living your dream in retirement! The Kid's are adult now! As Grand Parents, just live your life as I follow you two!
Awesome, thanks
I have enjoyed this as not to many folks travel thru Nebraska. A you tuber long ago visited a cousin there and on her travels to Washington State she took you thru an Indian Reservation of which was interesting. Also there is a lot of farming there. Kearney and the area would be a fun place to visit. Had a great time at watching. Love y'all
Thanks Leann! We loved our time in Nebraska! We have several more videos coming from different Nebraska towns over the next few weeks.
Good to see y'all! We're taking notes on NE as we are leaving Spearfish, SD Sept 21, heading back to Texas via NE and we've never been there. Safe travels!
Lots of Pioneer history! Thanks
Love Nebraska and everything you visited, Hope you get to visit the train yard in North Platte, The Golden Spike Tower. Been through the area many times.
We will definitely get that next time, thanks
Great having you share the experience of Kearney, Nebraska and the surrounding areas. Weather looked good and so enjoyed the museums visited with the history added. Stay Safe on Your Travels. Grammy Kay (aka, Mom)
Thanks mom!
San Antonio is great admiralty RV resort was great, full hookups, heated pool, dog park, and oh my gosh the river walk was the best and my husband loved the Tower of Americus thus far it's the best place we have visited our daughter and grand daughter has lived their for 13 years and by the way we love your video's.
Thanks and we love Admiralty & SA. We have done 2 videos on the RV Park and many on SA as well!
This video is perfect timing. We will be in Kearney in a couple of days. Mainly we are stopping because of the Archway. Thanks for all the suggestions in your video. North Platte has a wonderful railroad museum we are told. It is a major hub for railroads going east and west. We have stayed at the Kearney RV Park and Campground before. It was spring 2020 and was one of the few independent RV parks open. It is a great place.
Have fun guys!
Thanks for stopping in Nebraska. I saw you going west at Ogallala. I live in Hastings,NE. I could of offered you free camping. Did you see Stuhr Museum in Grand Island. Another great gem. Call us the next time in the area. SOOO much to see in Nebraska!
Yes there is Dan and thanks for the offer!
I have watched your channel for a long time. You guys are a great inspiration. My daughter and son-in-law just moved to Lorena Texas. If you are close to Sydney and you like Cabela’s. You should stop there. They have one of the most beautiful green campgrounds you will ever see. We were there in 2019 and it was only $25 for full hookups.
Thanks for the tip!
You can’t see all of Pioneer village in one day
It’s almost impossible, what an awesome place! 🤩
New game! Every time Doug or Stacy say "back in the day," pound a packet of pop rocks. See how long you last. 🤣🤣🤣 Fun & interesting video, guys!
Who is Doug??? 😂
@@rvamericayall Hahaha, Tom! I just caught myself & was gonna fix it but you got me first! 😅
Can’t wait to visit Nebraska. Biden gems for sure. Don’t hear much about Nebraska. We have always wondered if you two had kids. We were hoping to get a glimpse of your son you mentioned.
We respect his privacy so that’s why we didn’t show him. Nebraska is really cool though!
We were east bound a few years ago on 80 and stopped at the arch. I did the Pioneer Village with our girls 40 years ago on a trip from Rapid City to my home state of Indiana. There was an RV park at the Village at that time. Don't know if it is still there or not.
There was an RV Park but it really needs a lot of TLC.
I watched them move that into place with crawlers after it was built on side of highway
That would have been an awesome site!
Hey Guys. Dawn and I were wondering if y’all are gonna be at the Hoots rally coming up??? If so we hope we run into y’all again. 😎👍
Hey! Unfortunately, we won't make Hoots this year. We're on the wrong side of the country. Sorry to miss it. Have fun and tell everyone Hi for us!
Will do. Have fun.
I’ve always wanted to see the arch museum. We’re there any things that you would do next time that you didn’t get a chance to see or do?
Stacie mentioned a bunch of things towards the end of the video!
Very Nice and Beautiful ❤️ luvs
Thanks
Have you guys been to the Site & Sound Theater in Branson Mo?
Absolutely, it was in our resent Branson video kzhead.info/sun/rLlsfd19aZGhfJ8/bejne.html

Glad you enjoyed your visit but be happy that you don't live here . It could be called the" we will tax your breath if we can find a way to do it".
