This video coupled with the one of free soloing with Alex Honnold portray how fear is relative and everyone can push their limits, especially with someone talking you through it. You helped Chris in the same way Alex helped you during the solo. So cool to see, much better than just learning new technical skills!

    @durabelle@durabelle Жыл бұрын
    • This is why i love youtube collaborations. Especially between elite athletes of completely different sports. One can be extremely fit and look like they can do anything but then 5 climbs in and their forearms are pumped just like the rest of us beginners. I think we need a youtuber Collab-Olympics. You take 1-3 youtubers to represent each sport and have them compete in events from other sports. Tally up the points and see which sport keeps a person the most well rounded. In the end all the youtubers had fun and its us viewers who would be the winners.

      @uhmmmionno@uhmmmionno Жыл бұрын
    • But I have to say that free soloing is something else completely. Of course it's also battling fear. But Chris was in a situation where nothing bad could happen whilst during free solo if something happens you're dead.

    • @@henning_jasper Oh, of course, they're totally different situations! But that's just what I mean, it takes a different amount of scary for each individual, but both still got over the paralysing effect and kept going. With Magnus it was more about feeling in control and remembering that he could climb the route easily with a rope, so Alex reminded him of that, and also stopped his thoughts escalating by talking all sorts of nonsense too. Whereas with Chris Magnus could promise to have his back. Either way all they did was talk, and the climber had to do all the movements.

      @durabelle@durabelle Жыл бұрын
  • "I got you." One of the most powerful phrases. I'll never forget my climbing instructor who put his hand on my back as I went down to repel for the first time. Did that make me safer at all? No. In fact, it was more dangerous for both of us for him to lean over like that. But I felt safer. And because of that, I didn't give up and found a hobby I absolutely love.
