Awww this made me so happy. Welcome Mickey! It’s fate that he was still available after your trip. Given he’s a bit of an adventurer, I’d recommend you keep him as an indoor only cat. He’ll discover the cat tree in time, don’t worry. I have all of those same cat things from Kmart lol! I’ve adopted two cats from the RSPCA, adoption is the best!

Experienced cat owner here, and it’s safe to say you guys have won the cat lottery with Micky. He is sooo smoochie and already so comfortable with you both! Cats usually take months to settle into a new environment, and sometimes they will hide for weeks!

Hooray! You adopted little Mickey 🤗 Wishing the three of you many, many happy years together. Both my cats were indoor cats and were quite happy. We would take them outside to explore every day but always kept watch over them. ❤️🐾❤️🐾
Because he's a Russian blue, I'd have named him Ivan. He's a robust, fine-looking cat. One item you didn't mention when going through the accessories you got for him was claw-trimmers. I trim my cat's claws (her name is Toyoko-chan, & she's a Manx "shadow tortie") on a regular basis, even though she doesn't like it, and sometimes growls, hisses and tries to bite me.
he's got yellow eyes and I know from my RB baby they start off with blue eyes then transition to green eyes, he def has a lot of Russian blue in him but he is not purebred. regardless, he is absolutely gorgeous

We did the expensive beds, climbing things etc but wouldn't do that again as they inevitably don't use them. I'm glad you took the bell collar off him. Their hearing is so good that it would be like torture having that ringing in his ears most of the time. The clumping litter is definitely the best. Good luck and Mickey thanks you.😊

You should get him a scratching post or several of them. They should stop him from scratching things you don't want him to.
There are scratching posts on the tree, which he actually loves now! :)

Hi Brie Congratulations on becoming a Cat Owner. You will have many years of cuddles, kisses & happiness with Mickey. I am an owner of 4 Cats & they do make a home more enjoyable. They do cuddle in the tiniest places, will scratch furnishings (suggest to have his nails cut at least every 2 to 3 months). They will find their favorite spots in the house to sleep & lounge about. Mix Wet & Dry Food in their daily routine of meals given. They are good to using their litter box/tray to do their business - you shouldn't see any rembrants on the floor/carpet They will clean themselves on a regular basis. So happy you adopted him so cute! We have plastic covering on all our fabric kitchen chairs because our kitten that we have for over 1yr still likes to sharpen her nails on it. Give Mickey time to use all his toys and tree hopeful just needs adjustment time

its the smells, u can put ur socks or a jumper on the cat tree, he’s in a totally new environment with different smells but getting to know ur smells, ironing board smells more like u guys than the cat tree and new bed

That's just wonderful - lucky Mickey!! Do you know how old he is? As for getting him to sleep in his bed, I've had a few cats over the years and they will pretty much sleep wherever they want..they do like a warm sunny spot though, so maybe try moving his bed near a sunny window during the day and he might start spending a bit of time in it.

I am so glad he came back!. He is a russian blue and i am sure he has a doble coat. The first layer it will be a kind of soft wool then his normal hair. I found a rusian blue kitten on the public square so i brought him home . Then i started to read about this cat and i found out he was a Rusian blue . I don't adopt animals because the are pedigree i just adopt them when they are in urgent need. They do like cool or coal places because of their doble coat. Collar can be dangerous as i found a cat in my garden tanglen up in some climbing plants on the fences.

Aww you got Mickey he absolutely gorgeous his colour 🥰 Do you know Roughly how old he is ? Collar have a Bell on it ? To let birds know he around . He really looks settled , he no doubt find his bed , climb tree, he just curious to the New surrounding . My youngest son has two cats he use a small spray with water to deter his cat from scratching carpet, or going on places they are not allowed to. It does work . Maybe get a brush. Start training him , i know some hate it others love it 😜 Have a Good week 🥰

You might want to put the like tee box in the garage or laundry because it will take over your house like a poltergeist lol another tip, the crystal litter is better for taking the smell away :)

@@BrieanaYoung once you have two, you’ll never go back. With our first cat, he had nobody to keep him company when we weren’t around and I know he missed us. These two keep each other company when we aren’t home and I feel better knowing they have each other. You would want to double up on items such as a litter box and food and water dishes.

Thank you! the vet and lost dogs home listed him as russian blue, so im not sure exactly if they did tests or just could tell by his characteristics but from googling russian blues i can tell that he has all the physical characteristics and personality traits of a russian blue. perhaps ask your vet! So cool to hear you adopted a cat also!

we went through the lost dogs home, we didnt have to do an application we just turned up there and signed a adoption contract :)

November 26 we too adopted Russian blue from shelter// there is nothing stray about this cat

Beautiful cat. He picked you as his humans. If he’s a pure breed Russian Blue he’s quite valuable - the previous owners were silly not chipping him. Did the vet or shelter give you an estimate of his age? To train him to use his bed try bribery - put a small hot water bottle under the bedding. Cats like window sills and your lap because they like the warmth.

I would use a spray bottle of water when my cat would scratch. I only used it a few times for my cat to learn where the no-go zones were. Now she uses the cat equipment we have, which is similar to yours!

Please don’t spray your cat. That is just torturing them.
I would use a water bottle to stop unwanted behaviours. We love our cats so much; however, they can do serious damage to your furniture. We don't use the bottle anymore because they know not to touch our furniture. It's also really important to trim his nails frequently. For the bed/iron board, it could be because it's on the floor; cats tend to like sleeping up high off the floor. Ours both sleep in separate beds on our laundry bench.

The orange eyes makes me think he isnt a russian blue. Russian blues have green eyes and no white onnthem and pinkish paw pads. Either way hes super cute ❤
i think he might be half russian blue - but its crazy because when i google russian blue he has almost all the characteristics! haha we are obsessed with him! ❤
@BrieanaYoung I could be wrong. I am no expert. I have one myself. The thing that made me think mine was a RB was because she has: green eyes, pink paw pads, double coat, no white on her, and her tail had stripes made of fur.

Will Mickey be an in door cat or out door cat ??!! You should consider trimming his nails if he is an in door cat that way he can’t scratch your furniture. Don’t declaw his nails just trim them or cut them every once in a while.

Its not a russian blue. The physical appereance is not even close. Its just a domestic short hair (mixed). The only guarantee its a russian blue is, it comes with paper and pedigree. 😊
He was a stray so now way of getting his pedigree! vet said he was a Russian blue and he has all the characteristics of it so we are going with that
@@BrieanaYoungwell, the two ways to identify if he is a Russian blue is that he should have emerald eyes or mauve toe pads. I think he is a mix or korat or chartreux. 100% not a Russian as I have a purebred Looks adorable though

Meanwhile, someone is missing their long lost cat. NOT an enlightening video at all. Just because he wasn't chip'd, doesn't mean a family is missing him right now. Seems like he was stolen, just like MY Russian Blue was about 15 years ago. Our NOW Russian Blue stays INSIDE because of people like this...
Sorry to hear your cat was stolen! It’s illegal to have cats outside in Australia so he obviously wasn’t being looked after or he was a lost cat. He was at the lost animal shelter for over a month and no one collected him so his family must not have been missing him that much.
