    • I get your point I think his point more so speaks to the fact of a car you want to or have to modify to make good and deal with deficiencies The civic type R is a polished and basically finished vehicle that could be taken on track and is reliable The ELANTRA is basically a mix of the Corolla in the sense it’s more juvenile, but also is more track capable like the civic type R

    • @@simon.templar9998 from watching previous videos it sounds like this car struggled with heat a lot more than other cars. Like get a lap or two out of the rear differential before the car is FWD, and there's no easy fix for that because you're going to have to seriously modify the housing to get cooling hooked up. The engine also sounds like it goes nuclear a lot faster than most turbocharged cars. At least with the Type-R Honda put a lot of effort into cooling so you can get more than five minutes out of it before it shuts down.

  • Sad to see the GRC still having overheating issues. As a GRY owner in Germany since 2021 I have experienced overheating only a couple of times out of at least 10 track day. Some easy fixes (3D printed airflow box stuck underneath and heat wrapping the exhaust) resolved it. There also also larger oil pans for the diffs and even a diff oiler cooler, hopefully they soon come out for GRC

    @nikosdimitriadis9987@nikosdimitriadis99872 ай бұрын
    • Through the lens of a consumer aftermarket brand like One Plus I can see why it's taking time-but for real track rats the diff shouldn't be a big issue to solve... like you mentioned, some airflow or a home-specced cooler aren't out of the realm of possibility for people used to building track toys.

    • That's not how product development works. Doing what you suggest would double the price of this car, easily. This is an all-new model in a space Toyota hasn't really inhabited in a long time and they don't have the decades of experience Honda has with the Civic Si. If Toyota sticks with this model, second gen is where we'll realistically see meaningful improvements.

Yes one can get in a car and adjust all the controls to fit oneself...but is it fun ? In most all cases the answer would be no. I also own two Maverick pickups (don't ask why). They are simple to drive and easy to see out of, yet they are simply well working appliances. After one year of having the FRS off the road, I'm back to it. The fun never ends. They feel extremely highly quality, cover the entire carpet so you don’t have to worry about any wear or damage, and they provide all the things you need to install them. The only downside is it’s not entirely plug and play to get them perfectly installed but there’s no way around that for the coverage they provide. 10/10 gold bullion club.

I think if I got this car (I live in SoCal), I’d fit on some skinnier / less traction tires. I had a NC2 Miata and this formula worked great. • @soulsick410 at Stevenson Toyota, I showed up April 2nd, the following day of the GR press release bright and early in the morning after the dealership opened. I asked if I could put money down on the GR Corolla, and the salesmas was a total jerk and literally laughed in my face. I told him about the release the day prior, and he told me I didn't know what I was talking about, and there's no way Im getting that car anytime soon. He said there was no news on the GR Corolla. He had no idea of the hyped up release. I asked for his card and he gave it to me. I called that weekend and I spoke the sales manager know and he didn't care at all. I still have his card. Thank you to Toyota Stevenson West. Bravo! I literally drove across town to Mountain States Toyota and to not my surprise, there were 9 other people there already in line to put money down on the GR Corolla. I was at least stoked that Mountain States Toyota was taking down payments of $1k. I waited a few hours while the rest of us hyped each other up on this new car.! I put 1k down and the sales rep took all my info, they had me set for a Corolla GR Core in black with the performance package. His name was Jake. Jake told me "we'll call you by October by the latest with updates for allocation by the end 2022, Sweeet! October rolled through, I called beginning of November, left a voicemail and message with sales concierge. No call back. I called again in November and twice in December. Nothing. I finally get a call in Mid January and they said "Hey we have a GR Corolla at the dealership now, are you interested?" I said hell yeah and I drove right over there. I arrived and spoke with the guy that called me. He was a salesman. He said sorry about Jake, they let him go. He then let me know the GR that was there was in white/ core with NO packages or the performance package. I said okay?? Lol He said no one else on the list was interested. I told him well Im still interested, and I'd like to test drive it. He then told me he couldnt let me test drive because only serious buyers are allowed to test drive. Lol!!! I told him I put 1k down and that I've been waiting for months for this and he said sorry. He opened the doors and let me look at the seats. Lol!! I couldn't sit in there either. I then said I want my depost back. He asked if I was sure and that I wont be able to find a car like this anywhere else. I waited another hour to find out they couldn't issue my 1k deposit down because Jake didn't write down the last four of my card number lol! I waited a month and half and more calls to get a check in the mail. Hahaha!! I drove off / away in my 22WRX that day I purchased before my first call back In January. Sooo happy I got my WRX instead!!!! Such a smooth driving awesome car. And the GR Corolla, What a huge let down of a super hyped up car you can't buy. Thank you again, Mtn States Toyota and Toyota Stevenson West in Colorado.

  • I've had a share of fun cars and I completely understand those complaints with the GRC in your positions - it's so stable that I've not really ever felt like it was on edge during any hard driving and obviously the cooling issues are huge if you plan on tracking it. That being said, I traded my 4Runner in on one as something that I can really enjoy as a daily without sacrificing much usability and it is excellent on the twisty country roads in OH/WV. I work at a Toyota dealer so that obviously factored into my decision - if both were in front of me at MSRP, I'd have a really hard time choosing between it and a Type-R.

Having owned most of the econo daily cars such as 8th gen Si, wrx, evo x, fiesta st, type r, I can say that the gr took major lessons from all of these cars and ultimately offers a combined experience beyond any of the econo icons of the past and present. No one really makes the comparison but the overall handling and charter is most similar to the fiesta st but with the confidence and traction of the evo. People tend to compare this to the type r but that's such a different car. The type r steals the show with a jdm wet dream of an interior but ultimately shits the bed as the most infuriatingly overpowered front wheel drive experiences I've had. Bravo Toyota on this one.

I own a Fiesta ST which we are keeping as the second daily in the driveway (we have two commuters). I think this take on the driving dynamics is very accurate and I will be buying a GRC. I attribute the similarity to the fact that the GRC feels manic at low speeds (read, the speeds you drive most of the time) just like the FiST does. It is ultimately the better street driving experience for enthusiasts unless you live somewhere weather doesn't exist.

Making a enthusiast car and naming the trims “circuit edition” yet it can’t track 10 minutes without overheating multiple systems of the vehicle is embarrassingly bad when so many vehicles, some half the price, can track much longer, from Mazda Miata to BRZ to Civic Si, while for the same price, you could get a Civic Type R - probably closer to MSRP than a GR. This is a pure money grab.

Yes, not an amazing track car, but for the price compared to what else is out there it is a decent, fun, and a good car to drive (sigh... no more Evos or STIs, my last manual I drove years ago!). I keep trying to connect with it, and except for perfect dry, warm days on the right road, I don't find it overly exciting to drive. It's a comfortable, nice looking, great shifting, high quality car, but I think the FWD is just not for me. As I have other fun cars, this car gets used quite often in the cold and the wet, where 320hp FWD is just no fun at all. I also came from a Focus RS and I feel the GR might give me more of that short wheelbase, tossible, floor it at the apex and hold on sort of experience. Anybody here gone from a DE5 or an FL5 into a GR? I feel crazy for considering it.

I found the GRC to be more fun for daily driving, mostly due to the peppy nature of the 3cyl. It feels fun even just pulling away from a stop light and taking a normal 30mph left hand turn. The fk8 was more clinical with great limits, the grc has most of that, and is just more fun for daily use.

It's fun in bad weather, it's fun in the dry, it's fun under the speed limit, it's fun pushing the limit on a back road (because unlike a lot of other things it's forgiving and therefore far safer and more confidence inspiriting in real world conditions). Smiles per mile is my metric for something I'm going use as a primary vehicle. I've always been a small hatchback guy (other car is a Fiesta ST). I feel immediately comfortable in the GRC as a daily in a way I didn't in either the N or CTR.

Its mostly zinc and even on exhaust pipes, once the paint part is burnt the zinc in the coating will bond to the rust to make a protective coating. I have used the 7007 spray on everything from inside of fenders to cat delete pipes and haven't had the rust return once. I have a fifteen year old Dyna flow muffler on my truck that I cut open to clean out catalytic honeycomb. I cutoff wheeled it in half. Sprayed the inside with the 7007 and welded it back together. I then sprayed the outside. It is still on my truck with no signs of rust. It costs about 20bucks a can and its online at Amazon, Grainger, Ebay.

Toyota has acknowledged the clutch pack overheating for the late 2024 GR Yaris and they claim to have at least improved it, assuming they bring that same unit to the GR Corolla. I think GR for Toyota is simply a testing ground. GT86/FR-S/BRZ proved market for GR brand, then revamped as GR high (supra), GR mid (Corolla), GR entry (86) and proved they could truly invest in GR, now it seems Toyota may abandon some partnerships (86/Supra) and focus on 1-2 core pure Toyota Brands (86 sedan news and rumours, could share GRC/GRY parts) moving forward to make the investment worthwhile and consolidate to 1-2 production lines they can control and evolve so finance people can support it too.
