Sara, an IT professional & Stephen a graphic designer and artist are world-traveling Canadians who dreamt of moving to Europe, and France in particular. In 2020 they were working from home when Stephen turned to Sara and popped the question she was longing to hear, “What would have to be true for us to buy a chateau in France?” They searched online for months viewing hundreds of properties. They narrowed their search and toured some properties when they happened upon the one that captured our hearts, Château de Saint-Germain-des-Prés. A year later they made the move to France to start their new adventure in our beautiful Château. They created “Manor and Maker” to reflect the two sides of their adventure. One, to live as chateau owners with all the ups and downs and two, to pursue their passions as makers, creating art in all its forms. They will invite others to come together, united by their passions, to share in this adventure. We invite you to join us too, as we bring our dreams to life. Welcome to Manor & Maker.
There’s no question that Sarah is an amazing seamstress & upholsterer. It’s really professional work!
I was sceptical about the wallpaper, but the bright bed has pulled it altogether beautifully. Bravo you two.
Me too about the color but their mastery in color and contrasts really amazed me.
I love trees and while it's very sad to fell one it's just as important to take care of all the trees and forest by knowing when to cut. I think watching what Nick has done at LaLande has educated a lot of us to the importance to caring for the forests. I hope you can use the wood for wonderful things. Your work there is important and y'all are doing a beautiful job. Also i just saw the "face" on one of the Lalande chapel windows that Steve recreated - so lovely!!
Yes, Steve's work was wonderful. ❤
That bed! That toile! That yellow! This is the best yet. I love it!
Thank you very much for your hospitality and the copious amount of tea we tend to go though on these jobs. Work we are all very happy to put our names to and great customers make all the difference -Ben
We love watching people who are great at their jobs & passionate about them. Part of being geeky I suppose. I'm sure we'll meet again.
I love watching people do what they love to do- entertainers, painters, athletes, decorators, whatever.
Really love the yellow headboard and the wall color. So warm.
wow that tree is huge. so glad to see young people as apprentices.
The facilitator bedroom turned out to be quite lovely!
There you go that pulled together like we were saying…it awesome . 😊 now you need someone to process all that into firewood. 😅
That was quite amazing to watch and how fast they cleaned up wow! And it was nice to see you both at Chateau Lalande again! ❤xB
I was a no on the yellow paint but you proved me wrong. I agree that the fabric on the bed brought the room together. Good job.
Wow! This is such a beautiful retreat of a room for your facilitators. Everything is perfection and you aren’t even finished! Big pats on the back 😊
I think you should have a table made from the tree that you had cut last, and have it placed in the parkland somewhere that has a walking trail, so people can sit and talk and have a picnic, I love the big round one with the bark still on, but you would need a tall piece but a little bit small around for the top to sit on so people could put their legs under the top.
Why is tree felling so addictive!Well done team, and Alex.
I love the black accents in the bedroom. It looks so good. Great job.
Could you make a seating area with them in the woods, or where you can have a camp fire in the middle, lovely in the cooler months.
That's a great idea!
Beautiful bed toile, lovely color. Super colors in your bedroom!
I would like to apologize when I first saw the yellow with the wallpaper, it is absolutely gorgeous looking! Great job! Much love from Oklahoma USA Jackie 🇺🇸💖
Aw, that's sweet Jackie. Glad we could show you something you hadn't anticipated you'd like!
@@ManorandMaker I always admit when I'm wrong, it's the right thing to do 😊
I'ts heartbreaking to see such a wonderful tree go down...Hope you will be replantng.
@@patriziadelorenzis378 its paid its dues, if forests were managed like this we might escape the hellish forest fires we dread each year here in Canada, to the point that Insurance companies are not renewing policies in many areas
@@mocarra100 and makes for great relationships
The yellow bedroom looks good! Again, I went 😮 when I saw the material choice but, it looks great on the head and foot board, the trim is perfect. I am impressed what can be done with such a strong yellow.
Hi Sarah and Steve, I agreed with your choice of colour from the start and the headboard material is just perfect. Lovely work guys. 😘🇨🇮
The upholstery on the bed came out. Beautifully ❤❤❤❤❤
Love you guys and your restorations and artistry. Also the workshops you have.! Wish I was closer. I also follow another channel called “the Moons”. They also live in France. From U.K. They rescue elite horse athletes in their golden years and fund a good portion of this through KZhead of their life and the horses and part of why I’m telling you ,Sara, is Jenny restores vintage bears. So informative as to how the bears were made and to see the full restoration in this latest episode. Also anyone and everyone, give these guy some views to help with the horses! 🙏❤️
What a nice thing to do, helping support the Moons ❤. I also watch the Moon videos. They are a magical family ❤❤❤❤
DO take down that tree! We just had "the biggest tree" fall on the corner of our house last night in a high wind. Fortunately, not much damage. Just a broken window and a gutter torn off. The new bedroom is looking so nice! Will something special go into the "cubby" at the window? Hugs! Peggy
Oh gosh! That must have been really scary. I'm glad no one was hurt. Yes, we're hoping to do a little sitting area in there.. but we also would like to put in some gauzy curtains, so that might not work together ...
You can’t be too careful with huge trees, especially in areas prone to high winds, heavy snow &/or ice storms. I was thinking that a smallish table with fresh flowers would look nice in the little window alcove. I love the the bedroom colour & you did a great job redoing the headboard and footboard. It’s going to be a lovely room.👍🏻🇨🇦
The headboard fabric is perfect for the room. The tree people did a great job.😊
Thank you! 😊
The bed brings harmony to the room, it looks lovely! It must be a good feeling to have safely removed the precarious tree. Good job well done xx
And the bedroom is looking lovely.
Ok Sarah, you were right and I was wrong! The yellow is so warm and inviting and how in the world did you find just the perfect fabric for the bed boards? Whoever gets to stay in that room should be very happy.
Sarah and Steve, it seems you worked rather quickly on this bedroom. Looks so cozy and comfortable, well done!!
I love your upholstering skill, Sarah. The bed looks perfect and the room will be gorgeous. Wow, that was a big tree. It will keep the home fires burning for a very long time! Glad it went well for you.
Thanks so much! 😊
Loving the bedroom, and especially that beautiful yellow toile!
Thanks so much!
Wow, Sara, didn't you find the absolute perfect Toile in the very gray color & yellow?? That's just crazy!!! 🇺🇸
😂
What a timeless feel in a cozy room❤
The room makeover is FABULOUS! 🥰 Quite a tree fell...wow! 👀
The headboard fabric you chose is fabulous, brings the room together! A couple French chairs finished in the same fabric for the sitting area with some grey/cream cushions would finish it off perfectly!! ❤
The bedroom turned out lovely! The bed brought everything together. The art is perfect, too. Well done!
A great opportunity for a nice slab of a cutting board. A nice bit of history grown on the Chateau grounds for the kitchen. ❤
What a lovely room! So glad you could keep the one wall of wallpaper - it's the perfect relief in what would otherwise be too much of a good thing, I think, with the wall colour, and with the fabric you recovered the bed with, it looks like it was always planned just that way! As a fellow Canadian who went to the PNE to see the loggers cut chairs, etc, I was waiting for some chairs with backs to appear (or is Steve going to do that?). Steve could design some "chairs" with backs out of those big chunks of wood!
That honey mustard paint turned out purrrrrrrrrrRRRrrrrrfect (say it like Eartha Kitt) with the bed !!!
Absolutely beautiful! I am learning so many things watching your channel.
Oh, *perfect*! I love the new headboard against the toile paper, and with the bright yellow of the other walls!
Beautiful headboard !!
Thank you! Cheers!
Sara and Stephen: Great job on the "mustard" toile and the "mustard" color walls, which complement the original toile wallpaper! One flows right into the other and looks amazing!
I absolutely love how the bedroom is coming together. The headboard fabric is perfect with the wallpaper and the miel yellow, just love it! Are you guys planning on a large area rug or a few smaller ones?
We have a few smaller ones, so might go with that until the right larger one comes along.
The room is fabulous! Can't wait to see it done! I'm the one who said some yellows make some of us actually nauseous, and that I had seen a beautiful avocado green in your color choices that I still think would have been gorgeous in there, BUT the yellow you chose with your wallpaper, isn't in the "nauseating" hues! It's so charming and inviting! Well done you!!! From WallaWalla, Washington USA
The wood color on the night stands and bed would have matched perfectly with the wood beam 😢
good spot with the wee bug ; love the tree felling footage, at the moment Stanley Park in Vancouver is cutting down hundreds of trees because of some bug infestation, (not pine beetle)
Lovely to see the bedroom coming together love the headboard material looking forward to seeing completed project with curtains and soft furnishings. Tree footage was brilliant you certainly had a good team there 😊
* I meant to say “ a color match with the toile fabric…” ( see comment below).
Such fun to watch today’s vlog! Can’t believe you found the color match for the wall paint AFTER it was painted! It’s was fate- meant to be…. I think a pillow for the bed from toile fabric would look fantastic! ( Not a difficult task for you Sarah). Just Curious- when upholstering why don’t you cover “ rope” in matching fabric for trim instead of buying it? You’ve inspired me to do some upholstering. That huge tree- Wow! Just wow!!
The yellow toile is perfection on that bed and pulls everything together. Would love to see more maximalist gold and black accessories to really add more oomph to a fabulous room. And looking forward to what is done in the window nook and a set of fabulous curtains to finish it off.
I'm not a big yellow fan and thought it was too bright but the fabric on the bed pulls it all together - what a find! The room looks great - it looks a really cosy space. You must be pleased. And, what a job your tree surgeons did.
Love the room. It will be so inviting for your guests and facilitators. That was a huge old tree! Love the firestorms and so cool that his daughter is going to forestry school. How proud he must be! Question: how many new followers did you get from the Chateau friends blogs? Just curious!
You did a beautiful job on the bed ❤
Thank you! 😊
My mom would like to have me comment for her, she says, “I get it now. The grey toile wallpaper, the yellow walls, and yellow toile headboard looks so pretty.” I happen to agree as well. I love it. The yellow is gorgeous.
Lol, thanks to you and mom!
Not surprised with the colours available at the fabric shop being that Pantone's 2021 Colour of the Year was… grey and yellow.
The bedroom is gorgeous! I’d love to stay there😊
Thank you! We're looking forward to getting the rest of the furniture in!
I was a bit worried about the color choice, but now that the bed has been so beautifully redone in the perfect fabric choice I see it all came together perfectly!! Well done!! ❤I love it!!
I knew that bedroom colour would be gorgeous, and a wonderful restored bed too. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I think you should paint the alcove the honey colour too or a with half strength. I’m loving the room as it comes together. As a guest I’d appreciate a small lamp on the bedside that has only a small downward pool of light and doesn’t have a lit bulb in my eyes when I wake in the night
The catch with that is the electricity. There is only one plug in the room currently, right by the door (we are waiting for the electrician to have time to add more). So the lights on the wall are actually rechargable LED bulbs!
The room is absolutely gorgeous. I love it so much. Great job.
I love that you found the perfect toile for the bed!!! It's beautiful!
The room looks absolutely beautiful!! Great choices. And what a massive tree!!!
Thanks so much! 😊
💕The bedroom looks fantastic the bed material you chose the colours are beautiful & bring the room together nicely💕
What a great seating area that would make. Tree tables and seats. The bedroom is beautiful.
The bed is STUNNING!! I love that bedroom....Looking forward to sleeping in there one of these days! It's so very CHATEAU LOVELY! (I couldn't help myself 😂😂) Big hugs, beautiful friends. See you soon! xxx 🏰❤
The bed is beautiful and the room is coming along nicely! Good job!
Perfect!! Can you add another rug maybe? The toiles are perfection!!
Sara, That yellow background Tuileries..is perfection!
Fantastic (and quick) job in the bedroom! It looks great!
The room turned out looking real sharp! Well done! ❤😊
Just love the bed. Matches soo good with the room. Beautiful!! Lots of love from Tennessee!!
Thank you so much!!
Wow, the room turned out beautifully, I'm sure you're also really pleased.
Great job on the bed and the room is coming together just lovely ❤
Beautiful choice with the fabric for the bed!❤ from🇨🇦
Huge difference and quite complimentary-Nice!! 👌🏻
The bedroom looks great! I knew you had a vision with the bold yellow😀
Collingwood! 45 minutes away from Barrie, Ontario, where I live. What a great trip to take and see family and participate in your chateau decorating. I love the bedroom colors! Warm and inviting!
That toile is gorgeous! It’s perfect for the bedroom. And the headboard looks fabulous. ❤
All looks lovely the print of the bed echos the wall paper. Pulling everything together.
Hi guys, I absolutely adore the new room. Love all your choices so far!!! 10/10. Fabulous couple of episodes. Keep up the great work. 🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍❤️
The only thing that doesn’t seem to go with the gold/yellow room is the was sconces, they don’t seem to fit with everything else. The low knot in the tree really goes to show how dangerous and unpredictable tree felling is. And how dangerous that tree could have been in the wind. Sorry it had to go but so thankful you guys had it done. Glad everyone is safe.
That tree is so valuable! Not for fire!!
Had my doubts about the facilitator bedroom. Not a bold color fan in large doses. But I'm delighted to say I was very wrong to doubt you even a wee bit. Well done! It's always hard having to get rid of a tree, but that was a necessary job well done by Gavin and his crew.
Yeah! Glad we could show you something a little different!
@@ManorandMaker Think it was your beautiful work recovering the bed's head and foot boards that made all the difference. Nicely done!
The bedroom and the recovered bed look great. 👍 😊Just wondered why you had the trunk cut into small pieces! rather than getting it made into planks, for carpentry.
Good question - the answer is that the cost to transport it to a miller is prohibitive. Plus we could actually use the firewood, we dont have a lot in reserve right now.
Sarah you are so talented. The bed is beautiful. ❤
What a beautiful bedroom, excited for you to have completed soon. Hello 👋🏻 from Southern California 🌴😊
Wow all I can say is felling that tree was scary! Glad it all went well and you’ll have lots of wood for future fires. The room is really beautiful.
😍The room is looking great so far!! 🤔Did you happen to get the yellow toile from Stephanie?…….it looks familiar 💖😊
She did get some fabric at Lalande, so maybe. ❤
I dint think I would like the mustard yellow, but the room is stunning!🇨🇦
I too must apologise for doubting the yellow colour wall would go with the wall papers but the fabric on the bed head & foot boards marries them together beautifully.
Nice felling bro 👌
Looks amazing! Happy Easter from PE, Canada! 🐣❤️👏🇨🇦💐
If you felled a tree like that this time of year down south in the US there would be a huge yellow green cloud of pollen!! Love the new room!
Hello, The bedroom is looking really lovely! I really love the yellow! Elizabeth Goodrich, Texas
I wasn’t sure at first about the wallpaper and wall color but kudos to you both🎉. It is all beautiful ❤
What a find on the headboard fabric! …Meant to be.
Excellent job on felling the tree and clean up! For a short time, I was worried about the truck in the driveway and then the tree fell right where it was supposed to fall.
The room is looking fantastic, love the decor.
I love the yellow room. Beautiful!
