  • So much admiration for Darren Jones MP. If our political class was of this level of professionalism, intelligence and integrity, our country would not be in the financial and social doom loop we are now suffering.

  • I am a postie, serving since November 2016... we have ABSOLUTELY been told to prioritise everything EXCEPT letters. Simon Thompson damn well knows this is the case and the pathetic snake tries to wrangle his way out of answering the question. Since March 2020 we were told to NOT DELIVER letters and instead only focus on TRACKED or SPECIAL DELIVERY ITEMS - this was often due to low staff numbers and sickness, but even when we did have a full quota of staff Royal Mail bosses refused to pay us the necessary overtime in order to fulfil our service obligations. It is NOT our fault we are overwhelmed and cannot cope with the workloads. Royal Mail bosses track us with the PDAs (handheld computers that measure our delivery speeds etc) and they brought the PDA in to try and prove what they believed - that we sit around twiddling our thumbs drinking tea. The PDAs have proven the exact opposite, that our deliveries are too big and that we are running around like blue ass flies to try and complete our deliveries. It is a daily battle for us to convince managers that the ONLY way we would clear our deliveries is often with overtime being paid. The reason we were unable to deliver letters is because Royal Mail bosses and the executive board have not given us sufficient staff numbers to cope with the oversized delivery routes, they have repeatedly treated us like crap whilst lining their own pockets and paying out millions to shareholders. Our van fleet is an absolute disgrace with the majority of our vehicles barely road worthy. Darren, thank you for exposing this rat for exactly what he is. For me it's not good enough though, Simon Thompson should be in jail. Literally a con-artist

    • The "PDA's REPORTS" are not like Sat Nav in your car, Managers cannot see a Dot on their computer screens moving down the street. The reports are "historic" meaning they only detail activity up to the moment the report was requested. However, the point is mute given Managers can request as many reports as they wish, effectively giving them close to "Real Time Reporting". In reality it is easier for the Manager to run a single report when the Postman completes his route and have the conversation in the Office the next morning if there are problems......The Royal Mail system can also highlight any "dwell times" above say 5 minutes across the Delivery Office (I.e. for Every Postman working that day). Big Brother is well and truly here folks .......surprisingly Royal Mail have not linked their PDA Reporting system to automatically pay overtime if the Postman works past his finishing time to complete the delivery. Postmen will still need to beg their line Manager who, if he remembers to, may authorise the excess time....... maybe ?

Before privatisation royal mail had an excellent record for customer service and it was always a job for life should a worker choose. This is heartbreaking to see a long established , thriving public company being operated in this manner in private hands. Until these CEOs got their grubby hands on it and ruined the lives of so many due to a software system that had got these folks convicted of fraud and jailed. These were long standing employees with nothing else like this on their records. Fkn tragic that a proper investigation of the software could have sorted this out before people lives were destroyed. This should be the poster child of the dangers of privatisation.

    • My posties are a part of our community we talk everyday they know their customers they are a life line to many including myself I may only see him or her all day or for many days their out in all weathers which yes you could say is part of their job but to have the bosses sit there and dodge and squirm is the best tonic I’ve had in ages long live the posties 👍👍👍🇬🇧

    • And sorry to put fly in the ointment but we have a postie whos puts almost any old letter in the door meant for various other addresses, lazy, half blind or under pressure to hurry and finish a round?
